00:00The Business Mentor Talks is vlog by no other, Armando Butz Bartolome, in cooperation with
00:14the Manila Times.
00:15It aims to bring to life and recognize entrepreneurs who constantly strive to create a living for
00:21the community as well.
00:51Welcome to the Business Mentor Talks with Butz Bartolome.
01:15Today, we have something to learn, a person can tell us that nothing is impossible because
01:23he did the impossible.
01:26In other words, there is hard work, there is perseverance.
01:29But again, look at this young entrepreneur who really climbed and still climbing the
01:38ladders of success.
01:39So without further ado, let's introduce engineer Mark Rola.
01:45Good Sunday morning to you or afternoon, mukhang maulap dyan ngayon.
01:57mga tagasunod.
01:58Yeah, right, right.
02:09na-discover ba ang iyong road to success yan?
02:12Kwento mo nga.
02:13Yeah, actually sir Butch, during my college days at Technological University of the Philippines,
02:41So why not be serious about it?
02:45Okay.
02:59Of course sir, one of the motivations ng buhay sir is yung galing kami sa Iraq.
03:06And yung parents ko sir, my father is a jeepney driver and my mother is a plain housewife.
03:12And at a very young age sir, actually, nagtatrabaho na kami sa talier before.
03:28We know the value.
03:38So ikaw nagtapos sa Technological Institute of the Philippines, TIP, tama ba?
03:45TUP po sir, Technological University of the Philippines.
03:49Iba na ba yung Technological Institute?
03:54University sir. TUP is a public university sir, state university, while TIP is a private university.
04:03Okay. So nagkakamali-mali tayo dyan. But again, ano ba ang kursong kinawa mo sa TUP?
04:10Actually sir, I took two courses at TUP, Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering Technology and Bachelor of Arts in Industrial Management.
04:21Bakit ka nakaisip na kumuha ng dalawa? Naging 2-in-1 ang ginawa mo.
04:26Bakit mo ginawa?
04:40During my 3-year course, Bachelor of Technology, major in Mechanical Engineering Technology,
04:46may 3 branches pa na pwede kang i-pursue after that.
04:51That is BS, Mechanical Engineering, and then Bachelor of Arts in Industrial Management, and then Teaching po.
04:59So sa Engineering po kasi, hindi ko na siya pinurso kasi another 3 years.
05:05So dun po ako sa Management which is 2 years na lang po.
05:08Since mahirap po talaga para sa amin that time yung kumuha ng pang-enroll.
05:14Kasi that time may bayad pa ang mga State University.
05:19Okay, nagtapos ka ngayon. So ano naging unang mong trabaho noong ikaw nag-graduate Mark?
05:27Actually sir, nagtrabaho ako sa pag-ibig under agency.
05:33So nakita ako dun sir na napakahirap.
05:36During that time, 12,000 ang sahod ko, may family na ako noon.
05:40Parang as in talagang kulang na kulang talaga sir.
05:43So nag-isip ako ng way, paano ako makakadagdag ng income so that I can support my family.
06:00So aluminum and glass, okay.
06:03So yan ang pinagsimulan mo. In other words, nakatigil ka magtrabaho.
06:07Pero yung kinukulang o kinakaposoy yung swerdo, so you moved on.
06:12Papapaano mo na-discovery itong aluminum and glass?
06:15Ano ang nakita mong beauty ng aluminum and glass?
06:22Kasi sir, dito sir, sa aluminum and glass before, nang nagsisimula pa lang ako, wala pang masyadong competition.
06:29So during that time, 50% down payment.
06:32Mind you sir, wala po akong capital during that time noong nagsimula ako magnegosyo.
06:37So 50% down payment, 50% upon finish na noong buong project.
06:42During that time, yung 50% din sir, sapat na for all the materials and for all the labor sir.
06:50So yung 50%, kita mo na yan sir.
06:53Maganda yung sinabi mo, wala kang puhunan. Papaano yan?
06:57Sinasabi nila, laging may puhunan.
07:09Actually sir, siguro masasabi kong puhunan doon is lakas ng loob.
07:14At saka sir, yung pakikipagkapwa, at saka yung networking sir.
07:18Kasi financial sir, wala talaga akong financial capacity to start a business.
07:23So yung una kong project sir actually is my alma mater, my university,
07:33And during that time sir, kinausap ko yung isang worker,
07:40Sabi niya sir, yes, 50-50 to, 50% lang, kompleto nila.
07:44So ginawa ko sir, pinartner ko siya sir. May project ako, may tao ako.
07:48So kinombine ko, nagkaroon ako sir ng down payment na if natapos ko yung project.
07:55So nakita ko sir yung opportunity na hindi mo talaga kailangan ng pera to start a business.
08:01You need clients and you need workers.
08:16So yun ba naging continue or another stepping journey ito?
08:21Yes sir, actually nag-continue ito for three years before I move on to a bigger responsibility which is the general construction sir.
08:31Malaki-laki yung tinalon mo yan, mukhang aluminum and glass.
08:45During that time sir, sa aluminum and glass lagi kami last na pumapasok.
09:18Yung mga experienced na talaga sa construction and then we start from there sir.
09:24Aba, ganoon naman ha. So ano ang naging project ngayon? Ano ba pangalan ng company mo ngayon?
09:31Ang company ko ngayon ay Metro Goldrich Construction Inc. We started incorporated by January 5, 2017.
09:43Alright.
09:51Metro Goldrich Construction Inc.
09:54Metro Goldrich. So ganoon ka rich ngayon ng Metro Goldrich? Ganoon kalaki na? Ano mga projects na hinahawakan niyo? Mukhang hindi na ata niyo hinahawakan yung glass and aluminum Mark?
10:06Yes sir, medyo nag-ano na kami sir sa glass and aluminum.
10:12So ang mga ginagawa namin projects ngayon more on industrial and commercial buildings po.
Siguro isang magandang point dito Mark yung paano ka nakahanap agad ng kliyente for your construction, Metro Goldrich?
10:39Actually sir, more on network sir, yung naging mga client ko. More on negotiated na lang kasi yan sir.
11:14So 2017 kami sir nag-start, 7 years na kami sir running. So current project ko po sir right now is the new senate building, yung bagong senado natin na tinatayo sa Taguig.
11:29Wow! Mukhang maganda yung project na ginawa mo agad, the new senate in Taguig.
11:37Yes sir.
Yung mga offices nila, 5 offices on site.
12:09Wow! So ilang taong manage mo ngayon Mark sa iyong kumpanya?
12:16Ang regular ko po ngayon is nasa lima pero ang workers ko po sir naglarange from 100 to 150 pag may project.
12:24Maganda yung ginagawa mo.
12:52Actually sir, yung number 1 natin is yung commitment sir. Kasi once na naka-commit tayo, regardless kung ano yung maging problema, dapat matupad natin yung commitment natin. Kasi kung wala tayong commitment, wala tayong negosyo.
13:09Pangalawa sir, yung pakikisama o networking natin. Napakahalagan yan sir.
14:09... So ang character talagang isang puhunan mo siguro. You seem to be everywhere, you seem to be recognized by a lot of people. Pag sinabi mong si Mark Rola, ah si engineer. Parang ganda ng ano.
14:27But in terms of puhunan, paano naman yan?
14:57... Dahil kilala ka nila, kilala nila ang gawa mo, and also kilala nila ang pagkatao mo na honest ka at hindi mo sila lulokohin.
15:27Q1. In terms of associations, what are your guidelines when choosing an association?
15:57... So sir, yung naging common lang dun sir is tutulungan ka nilang mag-grow. Yung as a whole sir, yung pagtulong nila sayo.
Yung growth talagang ibibigay nila sayo sir. It's up to you na lang kung kukunin mo at gagawan mo ng move para matupad ang gusto mo sir with the help of them sir.
17:09... So we're pushing for more green building materials na makakatulong sa environment po natin sir. Yan pong main goal natin. Kaya lahat pong pinupush nating product ngayon, lahat po green building materials sir.
18:09... Malaking impact ang tulong niyo sir Boots.
18:39... Thank you.
