00:00You good to go?
00:00Good to go, yeah.
00:01Good to go, right.
00:02So if you just start by introducing yourself.
00:04Yeah, so I'm Mickey.
00:06I'm the owner of Fish Bar in Glasgow.
00:09It trades out of the Dockyard Social in Finnistan.
00:11Who did it all start?
00:12I grew up in a seaside town and seafood was sort of everywhere.
00:16And I sort of thought of it as the norm that everyone eats a lot of seafood.
00:21But it's not really like that.
00:23A lot of people aren't that used to it.
00:26So it's an interesting way to think about food is where it comes from, really.
00:34I wanted to move abroad.
00:35I wanted to move to Canada.
00:36So for that, I needed a job that would allow me to travel as much as possible.
00:42So everywhere does food.
00:44So if you learn to cook, it's very easy to travel.
00:46And also restaurants will take you for three or four months,
00:50just like a short season, and it won't be an issue.
00:54So it's a great job for people who want to travel.
00:56So did you go to Canada?
00:57I did, yeah.
00:58Four years, yeah.
00:59Oh, wow.
00:59So what brought you back?
01:02My visa expired.
01:03So I had to come back.
01:04I would love to go back one day and I probably will.
01:06So the Dockyard Social is a street food venue
01:11that also has a bar and does events and weddings and things.
01:16It's a startup that likes to help other startups.
01:19All the food in here is independently owned.
01:23And it's independent traders doing small businesses starting up.
01:27So it's a great place for people who would have no chance of
01:32building a business and being successful outside of here, really.
01:35A food truck costs 20 grand and I haven't got 20 grand,
01:38but I can pay my rent here at the Dockyard, no problem.
01:42People who want to do things their own way
01:44and don't want to bother with investors and wouldn't be able to get investors
01:48because it's not an easy time to have a food business right now.
01:50It's very scary.
01:52Food is an expression of joy and an expression of love to people that you don't know.
01:57Everyone has to eat, but you don't have to eat well.
01:59You make the choice to eat well if you're going to do that day.
02:06So it's a good line of the practical, the logical,
02:10the organization, but also the creative in that,
02:14yes, you can have something simple, something uninteresting,
02:19but you can choose to eat really well that day
02:21and that's a decision that will have impacts on your whole day and maybe the next day as well.
