00:00 Well there's been mixed reviews, mixed views from Sydney-siders around these new housing
00:06 targets that will see around 377,000 new homes being built across Sydney in the next five
00:12 years.
00:13 Now there's a focus on building these homes around transport hubs and near the city CBD
00:18 like in local government areas such as Woollahra in the city's east, eastern suburbs, which
00:24 is home to, you know, many heritage listed sites.
00:28 But the issue with these areas is that they're already densely populated and that's something
00:35 that the Deputy Mayor, Sarah Swan, has come out saying that the government, she's criticised
00:41 the government saying they haven't taken this into account and it's going to be a struggle
00:45 to find spaces to build these new homes.
00:48 Now the Woollahra Council has been given a target to build 1,900 new homes within the
00:54 area and have only had 30% of those plans in development at the moment.
01:01 And it's a bit of a similar story over in Sydney's northern beaches in the local government
01:06 area of Karingai that's been given a target of 7,600 new homes to be built and only 20%
01:13 of those plans are in the pipeline at the moment.
01:15 So that's quite a big target but the Mayor has come out saying that he's not surprised
01:21 by this announcement and that the challenge will be trying to source building supplies
01:27 and also construction workers to help build these new homes.
01:30 So there's quite a lot of discussion around these new housing targets and no doubt Sydneysiders
01:35 will be keeping a close eye on the development as we try and tackle the housing crisis here
01:39 in Sydney.
