Jeepito: The World's Smallest Philippine Jeepney | OG

Remember Tonton Tan who owns the 5.4 sq m Tiny Tank House in Baguio? Apparently, his tiny house is not the only creative thing he's co-built that's been catching people's attention and putting a smile on their faces.

Ronald Carlton Papa Tan, better known as ‘Tonton Papa’ also owns Jeepito - the world's smallest Philippine jeepney. Whenever he drives the mini jeepney it draws a crowd and the next thing he knows people are asking to snap some photos with it. And it's been touring for years now gracing different municipality and city streets to promote local tourism.

Tonton Tan did conceive the idea of reimagining the iconic Philippine jeepney to spread good vibes and help promote the country's tourism. If that's not being quite generous of one's creativity, then what is?

Check out this video and learn more about this adorable mini jeepney that brings out the kid in you!

00:00 Chipito is the world's smallest Philippine Jeepney.
00:02 The reason why I did this is to make my family and kids happy,
00:09 and to spread smiles all over the Philippines.
00:11 And another purpose of this is to promote tourism in our country.
00:16 Hi, I'm Ronald Carlton Papatan, better known as Tonton Papa.
00:20 And I'm from Baguio City.
00:24 I own the tank house and of course, Chipito, the world's smallest Philippine Jeepney.
00:28 [HONKING]
00:30 Chipito was made in 2015.
00:38 That's why Chipito is almost 7 years old.
00:40 That means that Chipito has been making our country happy for almost 7 years.
00:46 I will show you the features of the world's smallest Philippine Jeep.
00:50 It is 92 inches long, 42 inches wide, and 55 inches tall.
00:58 The Jeep is the iconic symbol of the Philippines.
01:01 That's why it is a must-have for everyone.
01:04 It is a vehicle that will remind you of how much the Philippine Jeepney can show.
01:11 [MUSIC]
01:13 This Jeep is a Philippine flag-themed.
01:24 It is red, white, blue, and yellow.
01:26 And of course, the three stars and a sun are inseparable.
01:29 You can see them here on the roof and inside.
01:31 Of course, the spare tire is also inseparable.
01:34 What else can't be separated?
01:36 If you're a driver, you should have a towel.
01:38 Because I'm the driver that you will ride on Chipito's trip.
01:43 We made Chipito in 2015 for almost two months because it is so small.
01:49 We spent around Php 160,000 on Chipito.
01:52 We should have spent less on this.
01:54 But we made sure that it is street-legal, complete, and almost perfect as it is.
02:00 This is another thing that many people ask.
02:03 What is the engine of Chipito?
02:05 The engine of Chipito is a 3-cylinder that is mostly used in multi-cabs.
02:10 But all parts of the Jeep and chassis are customized.
02:14 [MUSIC]
02:19 Chipito can be ridden by four people.
02:22 One driver in the front, one passenger in the front, and two passengers in the back.
02:27 Actually, we can make it five because one will be in the back.
02:32 The main purpose of Chipito is, of course, to spread smiles.
02:35 And when is the best time to spread smiles?
02:38 Of course, it's during Christmas.
02:40 So every Christmas, we make different gimmicks to make all the kids that Chipito will pass through happy.
02:47 And even the adults. So if I were you, be ready for Chipito every Christmas.
02:52 The changes of Christmas back then and now that there's a pandemic, it's really big.
02:59 Before, when we go around Baguio, or not just Baguio, we go down to give goodies.
03:06 All people are welcome to come and take pictures. There are no limitations.
03:12 Everyone is welcome.
03:13 But now, as much as we'd like to do that, everyone is limited.
03:18 When we ask for a picture, Chipito will come. A lot of people will come.
03:22 There are a lot of security personnel or those who are implementing laws to prevent COVID-19.
03:29 It's really limited.
03:31 [MUSIC]
03:37 You know, guys, there are so many memorable moments that Chipito and I experienced.
03:43 Actually, one memorable moment was when we were driving on the road in Manila.
03:49 Then suddenly, someone stopped us. A pickup truck stopped and there was a police officer with it.
03:54 So we thought, "What did we do? Did we violate any rules here in Manila?"
04:00 I was surprised when the pickup truck door opened.
04:02 There were a lot of photographers, newspapers, and media. Then the police officers came down to watch us.
04:10 And everyone was taking pictures.
04:11 You know, the funny moments with Chipito are the experiences with the artists.
04:17 Because Chipito is often invited to different shows, to different parades, so there are a lot of events.
04:23 I can't forget the parade we had in Tuguegaraw, in Cagayan, in the North.
04:30 When the parade happened, the celebrities and artists were the first to come.
04:35 When Chipito passed by, everyone from kids to adults, and even the artists, took pictures with Chipito.
04:42 So at that time, I felt like, "Wow, Chipito is a celebrity!"
04:45 That's what I laughed about and I will never forget.
04:48 Another memorable moment with Chipito was when the NLEX Warriors rode here with Acit Aulava.
04:56 Imagine, seven basketball players who are very tall rode here.
05:00 One was in the front, four people were standing behind him, plus me, and there was someone who was standing behind.
05:07 Actually, there were seven of us, Acit Aulava was in the front.
05:10 So I said, "Wow, Chipito is a big guy!"
05:14 Chipito is really strong, but even the big guys become like kids because of the experience that Chipito gives.
05:22 [music]
05:27 The reaction of people when they see Chipito is priceless.
05:33 Their smiles and excitement when they see Chipito, that's what I really feel, "Wow, we did the right thing."
05:41 Because even when they're old, when they see Chipito, the child in them comes out.
05:45 They become like kids.
05:46 The excitement, I hope everyone feels it. I hope I feel it when I see people.
05:50 I will feel the excitement when I see Chipito.
05:54 For Chipito's future plans, there are a lot of them because he has a lot of invitations to movies and other networks.
06:02 But of course, as Chipito itself, his future plan is the invitation of a production company.
06:08 Which is to be like the new Batibot or the new Flying House.
06:11 So when he travels, he will learn a lot, a lot of educational stuff or learnings that can be spread to children.
06:19 So his purpose of being happy, he will learn a lot.
06:22 And that's what we're really excited about, that I hope it continues.
06:26 We are inviting you to look forward to Chipito's upcoming plans.
06:31 Because of course, we are excited to see your smiles when you ride with Chipito.
06:35 So we are inviting you to ride on Chipito's trip.
06:40 [MUSIC]
