00:00 Hello OG, I'm Randall and I'm here in Seruma, Camarines Sur and welcome to Q'yud Qad, the last resort.
00:08 So Q'yud Qad, actually it doesn't have any meaning.
00:28 So for the longest time, the locals here, every spot, they have a name.
00:34 Like Punta or like, you know, they call this spot Q'yud Qad.
00:38 So it's a nice sounding name.
00:40 I said, and might as well as respect for the locals here.
00:45 That's what we're going to use.
00:49 So in Q'yud Qad, we have four houses for rent.
00:57 The two there are mine.
01:00 So the brown, it's more of like a friend, a family, like a big group.
01:09 And then the lodge, the lodge is more of like intimate for couples or you know, small families.
01:20 We have a main house, that's where we stay.
01:25 The story behind Q'yud Qad is actually like our pandemic baby, right?
01:30 We realized that we're tired of the city life and then we want to get more of this experience, right?
01:41 So we moved out of Manila and then built something that was just super basic before.
01:47 Like a house and then off the grid, we didn't pay for electricity, we didn't pay for water.
01:56 And then, you know, we spent what, like two years in the pandemic, we were just here.
02:03 Then, like fish out of water, we're here.
02:07 Then learning everything, getting food, everything like that.
02:14 A lot of people are visiting and they like the place.
02:17 So we said, might as well just share it, the philosophy behind living like this.
02:26 Way back, this place is so remote.
02:30 So now, it's just fast to get here from Naga, just two hours.
02:36 But way back, like six hours from Naga.
02:40 So it's really far, it's so remote.
02:42 Actually, this barangay is one of the most remotest barangays in Camarines Sur, right?
02:50 At that time, I like camping and then just backpack and whatever.
02:57 So I went here, there's no trail yet.
03:01 I got here, I camped, I befriended the locals.
03:07 Then stayed for like four nights, just camping.
03:12 Then I went fishing with the locals.
03:15 Then I drank with them, like that.
03:20 I liked the place, I fell in love with the place.
03:22 So I came back.
03:23 I got a small parcel of land, so that's where it really started.
03:27 Now, it's 30 hectares.
03:33 [music]
03:38 So the story behind Brown is,
03:42 this was our first house.
03:46 It was just a hut, then there was a loft.
03:51 But then, after a few years, it was hit by a strong storm, it was totally destroyed.
03:57 So we had to rebuild it.
03:59 So this is it now, the Brown.
04:02 So it has a loft.
04:06 [music]
04:11 Then it has a living area.
04:14 [music]
04:17 Dining.
04:19 Then there's a pond.
04:23 Then there's also an outdoor dining room.
04:27 [music]
04:30 Then there's a view of the beach,
04:33 a view of the sunrise, a view of the sunset.
04:36 [music]
04:41 So the lodge, the studio, is small.
04:45 Before, the story behind that,
04:48 we used to live in Brown.
04:51 But then we started renting it out.
04:54 Then, when we were renting it out,
04:57 I was just camping on the beach.
05:01 So I decided to, like Mrs. said,
05:05 "Let's build a house that we can stay in."
05:08 So we built that house.
05:10 It was small, because I said, "We're the only two."
05:14 So, that's how it was.
05:16 And then we moved there.
05:18 Then, someone wanted to rent the lodge.
05:21 So we moved out again.
05:23 Then we rented it out.
05:25 And that's how we built the house.
05:27 So the lodge is just a studio.
05:31 It's basically good for, like, what,
05:34 three or four people.
05:36 It has this huge deck.
05:39 [music]
05:43 And then, a kitchen.
05:46 Yeah, like that. A studio.
05:49 In Brown, it's like 120 square meters.
05:54 In the lodge, it's about 45 square meters, I guess.
05:59 The construction of the house,
06:02 most of the materials used is local recycled wood.
06:07 Mostly, sometimes, in the barangay,
06:10 there are people who upgrade the house to concrete.
06:14 And then, they will bring in old houses.
06:18 So, I buy old wood,
06:22 and then I used it here.
06:25 [music]
06:33 It's a big challenge, because it's so remote.
06:37 And it's hard to bring materials.
06:41 And at the same time,
06:43 it's hard to find a workforce to build.
06:48 So, that's the biggest challenge.
06:51 And the weather itself, you know,
06:53 it poses itself as this huge hindrance
06:58 that you don't want to build.
07:03 You know, something like that.
07:05 So, that's our problem.
07:09 Yeah, over time, we've been addressing it.
07:15 [music]
07:19 There are times in my life when I've been traveling around,
07:23 backpacking all over the world,
07:26 and then getting inspiration from wherever I go.
07:31 And this is the amalgamation of my experiences.
07:38 So, it's kind of like there's no set theme, right?
07:45 So, it's more of like a collection of experiences.
07:49 [music]
07:55 I guess, the "Kyudkad" is something like a blank space for me,
08:02 in the middle of nowhere.
08:04 So, it's basically a blank slate.
08:07 So, whatever experience you derive from it,
08:11 I guess that's what's going to make it unique.
08:14 [music]
08:25 Living here, it's humbling.
08:27 It's a city, you have a lot of needs,
08:31 but then, you're here, you're able to live.
08:34 That's a small thing, but you're happy and appreciative of the small things.
08:39 [music]
08:48 The nightly rate of Brown is Php 15,000.
08:54 And then, the lodge, the nightly rate is Php 12,000.
09:00 So, hey guys, welcome to Kyudkad, the last resort.
