00:00 What does it mean to be a leader again?
00:02 For Intel, it's to have the leadership transistor technology,
00:09 the leadership silicon technology, to have the best capabilities
00:13 in the world in that respect.
00:15 And if you think over the last 30 plus years of transistor innovations,
00:20 Intel has been responsible for bringing them to leadership manufacturing.
00:25 So in many respects, this is resuming the role
00:29 that we have played for decades.
00:31 This is a really important piece of the overall strategy.
00:56 We get back to process technology, competitiveness and leadership,
01:00 and we see the end of that, what we've called five nodes in four year journey.
01:06 When we laid that strategy out three years ago,
01:16 you know, people were like, wow, that's so audacious.
01:19 How are you ever going to pull that off?
01:21 And here we are three years into it, and we see the end of making
01:25 all of those things that we said come true.
01:27 I do admit there's skepticism from some of the investors as well.
01:32 And I think some of them, when they looked at, wow,
01:35 it's an expensive long term strategy, it has risk associated with it as well.
01:40 We accept that those are the case.
01:43 At the same time, if it takes five years to build a factory,
01:46 launch a new technology and bring it online,
01:49 you can't measure that on a 90 day basis.
01:52 You know, this is a multi year journey.
01:55 That's what I asked the board of directors to sign up for.
01:58 That's what I signed up for.
02:00 We're bringing advanced chips manufacturing back to America after 40 years,
02:15 and it's going to transform our semiconductor industry,
02:18 a pillar of a modern economy.
02:20 Now, when we measure the chips act today, it's like, huh,
02:25 this is pretty good because we've seen projects from Intel and Micron
02:30 and TSMC and Samsung and others across the industry
02:33 started to return to the US.
02:35 So we say it is having that domino effect.
02:38 The success patterns that we've already demonstrated,
02:42 you are clearly saying the economics, the jobs, the technology,
02:46 the technology is going to be a big part of that.
02:48 You are clearly saying the economics, the job creation.
02:51 Right. And the migration of the industry is already well underway.
02:55 You combine intelligence with experience and you get wisdom.
03:00 I would hope today that I'm a bit more humble as life causes you to be
03:05 a bit less smart and more wise, but still passionate
03:09 about the transformative power that technology can have.
03:14 So it's the most challenging assignment.
03:16 One I feel uniquely called to go do and one that I'm confident
03:21 that we're going to pull off, but it's not without its challenges along the way.
