00:00 Okay, I started with him before in Spanish.
00:02 Okay, [speaking Spanish]
00:05 Respect the rules and respect each other, okay?
00:08 -Touch him up. -Thank you.
00:10 Thank you, sir.
00:12 [Indistinct chatter]
00:14 Ready to get things started on a Wednesday night
00:17 here on your boxing channel, Pro Box TV.
00:22 Luis Fernando Vega Sanchez
00:26 against Bershanli.
00:28 Fight scheduled for four rounds.
00:31 [Indistinct shouting]
00:35 Hey, hey.
00:37 [Indistinct shouting]
00:40 [Shouting]
00:43 [Indistinct shouting]
00:46 [Shouting]
00:49 [Applause]
00:52 [Indistinct shouting]
00:55 [Shouting]
00:58 [Bell dings]
00:59 Here we go!
01:01 It's time to fight Bershanli.
01:04 Blue and white trunks, Fernando Vega Sanchez.
01:09 That would be Luis Fernando Vega Sanchez
01:12 in the burgundy and black trunks.
01:15 [Indistinct shouting]
01:18 Both men early in their professional careers.
01:22 Extensive amateur pedigree for Bershanli.
01:26 Sanchez, one of those guys,
01:28 you got to look past the numbers.
01:30 He's got a record, obviously not very impressive,
01:32 0-3 and 1, but I've watched some video.
01:34 He can fight.
01:35 He did fight in a preliminary matchup
01:38 back in August of last year
01:41 brought to a draw against Dante Concepcion
01:44 here inside our world headquarters,
01:46 the Pro Box TV event center.
01:48 I mean, you know what?
01:49 He's doing the job that a guy like him is supposed to do.
01:51 He's keeping Bershanli working.
01:52 He's keeping Bershanli thinking.
01:54 He's pressing Bershanli.
01:55 He's making him a little uncomfortable,
01:56 and he's forcing Bershanli to use the repertoire,
01:58 which is, you know, obviously with the high Bershanli
02:01 and the athleticism he has,
02:02 he's going to come off the jet,
02:03 but he's forcing him to work.
02:04 Back you go.
02:06 That's why you kind of need these kind of moments
02:08 early in your career in order to get those--
02:10 that learning phase and that learning experience.
02:12 Plus, champ, as you said, Sanchez is a bit better
02:14 than your typical 0-3 that you see.
02:16 [Indistinct shouting]
02:18 Six-week training camp for Bershanli
02:21 in Rock Island, Illinois.
02:23 No holding. No holding.
02:25 His island's in Illinois?
02:26 Well, it's considered Rock Island
02:28 because it's in the Quad Cities,
02:30 the border of Illinois and Iowa.
02:32 Oh, okay.
02:33 I don't know if there are any islands.
02:34 There's a lot of great lakes.
02:36 The landlocked island.
02:37 Uh-huh.
02:38 [Laughter]
02:41 There's a lot of lakes,
02:42 but no islands in the state of Minnesota, Paulie.
02:45 About 10,000 of them.
02:47 Cold, too.
02:48 Very cold.
02:50 Lee's starting to find his jab now.
02:52 A little earlier, he was aiming a little too high.
02:55 Sanchez doing a good job of changing levels on his way in,
02:57 albeit awkwardly.
02:59 Yeah, Chrissy was throwing it out there,
03:00 but he just wasn't connecting with it.
03:02 And as you mentioned, nice body shot.
03:04 Now he's finding the range.
03:06 That's one way to deter a guy
03:07 whose heart knows the way Sanchez is,
03:09 bang that body early.
03:10 Yeah, yeah, you need to slow down that pressure, too,
03:12 'cause Sanchez really not--
03:14 hasn't--in that first minute especially,
03:16 he didn't really look like he was doubting himself pressing.
03:19 Now he's kind of slowed down,
03:21 and it's allowing Lee to be able to pick some shots here.
03:24 [indistinct chatter]
03:26 Yeah, Lee's already made some adjustments.
03:28 Lowered--lowered his aim on those jabs.
03:31 He's going to the body with that right hand,
03:33 hard and often now.
03:35 [indistinct chatter]
03:37 Fight contracted at 145 pounds.
03:41 Scheduled for four.
03:43 Ooh, heavy shots.
03:46 Great audio inside the ring tonight.
03:48 Nice exchange to his knees, too.
03:51 [indistinct chatter]
03:54 There's that length of Rashawn Lee.
03:58 [bell rings]
04:00 [cheers and applause]
04:03 Thank you, sir.
04:08 Oh, you are very fast, huh?
04:12 Give me the spit bucket.
04:18 Church, the spit bucket.
04:21 [indistinct chatter]
04:24 Rashawn Lee trained by his uncle, Ramsey Vesey.
04:48 Marco Fazzini in the corner
04:51 of Luis Fernando Vega-Sanchez.
04:54 [bell rings]
04:58 Round two.
05:00 Blue and white trunks for 23-year-old Rashawn Lee.
05:05 Burgundy and black for 26-year-old
05:09 Luis Fernando Vega-Sanchez.
05:12 Fight is scheduled for four.
05:15 This is one of those fights where a prospect like Lee
05:17 can work on his understanding and control of the ring
05:20 as far as distance.
05:21 You know, he's a guy, you can see, works off athleticism,
05:23 likes to fight at that middle to long range.
05:25 And you got a pressure fighter in front of you,
05:27 so this is one of those fights where you can actually
05:29 work on understanding how to maintain that pressure
05:31 and allowing moments like this to be fewer further between
05:35 because better opponents will want to get inside
05:38 and be able to do more damage than a guy like Sanchez.
05:40 Sanchez gives you the effort, but he also gives you
05:42 the opportunity to work on those kind of things.
05:44 So that's the thing you're looking for with Lee
05:46 is how much is he able to control that real estate game
05:49 and not allow Sanchez to be in his wheelhouse.
05:51 Doing much better here in round two, keeping that length.
05:54 Lee's tall for the weight class.
05:56 At the end of the round, he's able to step away,
05:58 stay at that mid-distance, keep Sanchez on the outside.
06:01 But, man, Sanchez is dogging.
06:03 He's really working his way inside, trying to pump that jab.
06:06 Yeah, and even the little level changes you mentioned earlier
06:09 in the first round, champ, you know, he tries to sometimes
06:11 drop that level and then rush in.
06:12 There he goes again, trying to get in there.
06:14 But you see Lee is starting to time him
06:16 as he's making those dips side to side.
06:18 He just landed a good right hand upstairs,
06:20 one of the best punches upstairs that he's landed so far tonight.
06:23 Sean Lee just made his professional debut
06:26 a little bit over a month ago on February 10th
06:30 in his hometown of Davenport, Iowa.
06:33 Back right away, hoping to move to 2-0
06:35 here in his Pro Box TV debut.
06:37 He said, "I just want a nice performance.
06:39 "I want to look sharp.
06:41 "I want to knock out, but I won't force it."
06:44 Loves that left hook, the overhand right.
06:46 He did win his pro debut with a second-round finish.
06:50 Rick!
06:51 Both guys giving that effort tonight, you know.
06:55 Both guys getting the night's work in.
06:58 That jab from Sanchez snaps the head of Lee back.
07:02 I like how Lee is staying calm.
07:06 He's got a guy who's putting a lot of pressure on him.
07:08 That is standard bad work.
07:10 But Lee is not getting deterred.
07:13 He's going back to the game plan, finding that range,
07:15 getting back to the jab.
07:17 Left hand connects for Vega Sanchez.
07:24 30 seconds on the clock, round number 2.
07:36 Nice angle there by Lee as he lands two shots,
07:39 slides out to his left.
07:41 One thing I like to start seeing from Lee,
07:44 he's starting to get the timing, good shot there from Sanchez.
07:46 Starting to get the timing of Sanchez.
07:48 You want to maybe hold your ground and sit on one of those
07:50 counter punches instead of keeping it moving.
07:52 This is where a guy like Sanchez is dangerous.
07:54 Once he can land something, gets that confidence up,
07:57 starts to feel a little more comfortable,
07:59 and it's going to then make you uncomfortable.
08:01 [crowd cheering]
08:04 Good round at the end.
08:19 [whistle blows]
08:21 Got a little cut up there.
08:23 Tell him don't stay on the right, same thing.
08:29 You need him to up jab.
08:31 Let me see some of that action from the last round here.
08:44 Both guys digging, like you said, Champ,
08:46 they're really going for both men,
08:48 willing to stand and trade on the inside.
08:50 There's that big overhand shot from Sanchez.
08:52 You see how to come up with a lazy, almost ignorant right hand
08:55 by Lee moving to his left with his left hand down,
08:59 kind of just flips out that right hand very lazily.
09:02 And even against a guy who's 0-3 like Sanchez,
09:05 if they give you the effort, you'll pay for those kind of shots.
09:07 So again, these are learning fights for a prospect like Lee.
09:10 He's being made to work.
09:12 Sanchez is a solid opponent for a second pro fight.
09:15 Lee was coming up short with that jab in round one,
09:18 and it made him a little bit hesitant to throw it in round two.
09:20 You saw him pawing with it more as you see him doing it right here.
09:23 A lot of Sanchez for overhand shots and hooks to go around that jab if it's lazy.
09:27 The only reason you should be pawing is if you're trying to set up a power shot behind it,
09:30 you know, when you're trying to measure a guy.
09:32 I never understand guys who just kind of paw just for the sake of pawing,
09:35 because then you allow the other opponent--
09:37 you allow the opponent to come over the top of you and start to really press you.
09:40 The only time you should be really pawing with a shot
09:42 is if you're looking to set up something-- a hard shot behind it.
09:45 Double jab from Vershawn Lee.
09:48 As I mentioned, his uncle is his head trainer
09:51 and his cousin, former two-time--former two-division world champion,
09:56 58 and 4 record, Michael Nunn.
09:59 Wow. And he's got a cousin?
10:01 Yep.
10:02 Wow, man. That's all right.
10:03 It's good family lineage, isn't it?
10:05 Similar body type, too, actually, if you really think about it.
10:07 All that family. Nunn was that one-time pound-for-pound fighter in the world.
10:10 I mean, slicks up. Absolutely.
10:13 Lee, 2021 National Golden Gloves champ, probably.
10:17 Yeah, well, you know, it comes in that pedigree, man.
10:19 You got that right.
10:20 And Nunn also one of the best nicknames in boxing history as well--
10:23 "Second to."
10:24 Second to Nunn.
10:26 And other than four times, it was very true, wasn't it?
10:30 He was scary because he was slick and he could punch.
10:32 Yeah.
10:33 Yeah, that knockout he had of Columbey.
10:37 Sumo Columbey was a very popular fighter in Italy.
10:40 Man, Nunn smoked him.
10:43 Talked about the amateur pedigree of Vershawn Lee.
10:47 He fought Andy Cruz as an amateur.
10:50 Andy Cruz, the 2020 lightweight gold medalist at the Tokyo Olympic Games.
10:56 Lee's also sparred with Olympic silver medalist Keishon Davis.
11:01 Keishon's brother, Kelvin Davis, coming up next here on Pro Box TV.
11:05 Watch out, guys. Sanchez getting closer and closer.
11:07 He's landed a couple right hands this round.
11:10 As you see, Lee, his technique's starting to fail him a little bit
11:15 as we're getting later into this four-rounder.
11:17 Sanchez starting to read his movements way better, isn't he, Chris?
11:21 Yeah, I think that, honestly, Lee's just getting a little less sharp.
11:24 There it is again.
11:26 That's the exact same punch he landed last round.
11:29 He's cutting off Lee.
11:31 Going in the same direction with his left hand down.
11:34 Something Sanchez has seen.
11:36 I mean, Sanchez kind of picks up data himself.
11:39 I told you, this kid can fight, man.
11:41 You've got to look past the numbers on Pro Box TV.
11:45 And notice, he's doing a good job cutting off the ring as well as Sanchez.
11:49 Sidestepping. He's not following Lee.
11:52 He's looking to land that right hand.
11:54 He's anticipating well and punching to where Lee's going.
11:57 Sanchez, I don't want to cut off the ring better than some contenders.
11:59 Some world champions nowadays.
12:02 [crowd cheering]
12:04 Talk about that mistake made by Lee.
12:23 And there it is again.
12:24 Moving over to his left.
12:25 Up high with his left hand down.
12:27 You see that again.
12:28 Almost like he thought a straight right hand was coming.
12:31 And he's looking to parry it.
12:32 Put his hand down right as the hook comes.
12:34 And ends up opening himself up for it.
12:35 As he's moving in that direction.
12:37 Very similar to the way he was caught with that same punch, Pauly, in round number 2.
12:42 Absolutely.
12:43 Mistakes like that can haunt you.
12:45 Not only in the same fight, but later on if you can't adjust them.
12:48 Fourth and final round for this welterweight matchup.
12:54 Let's get things started on Pro Box TV's Wednesday Night Fights.
12:58 Brought to you by Sportsbetting.ag.
13:01 Here's Shawn Lee, blue and white trunks.
13:04 Burgundy and black.
13:05 From Luis Fernando Vegas Sanchez.
13:08 Looking for his first win as a professional.
13:11 Trying to be little Mike Tyson, you see Sanchez.
13:14 Man.
13:16 Talk about effort from Sanchez.
13:18 We talked about also his building of his confidence.
13:21 He's had two good rounds in a row.
13:23 Was able to land some shots.
13:25 Does Lee need this round to secure a win?
13:28 Could Sanchez draw you if he wins this round?
13:31 I don't know if I would necessarily give Sanchez both those rounds.
13:35 The last round was better than the second.
13:37 He's gone the 4 round distance in all 4 of his professional fights as Sanchez.
13:44 Two losses by unanimous decision.
13:49 One a majority decision in the draw I mentioned earlier.
13:52 Last time he was here on Pro Box TV.
13:55 Lee has to get back on his jab.
13:57 He's fighting the kind of fight that gives Sanchez not only an opportunity but confidence.
14:01 Because this is the kind of fight Sanchez likes to fight.
14:03 Lee has to command that real estate.
14:05 Conditioning is looking like an issue though.
14:07 Falling in with that ring in.
14:09 Maintain that distance and shoot that jab.
14:12 Use those feints, use that jab.
14:13 There's different ways to maintain that real estate.
14:15 Winning those real estate battles is so important.
14:18 As a fellow tall guy I'll tell you.
14:20 When you get tired the first thing to do is your legs.
14:22 You start seeing a guy falling in.
14:23 You start seeing a guy not being able to evade as quickly.
14:25 Or be as explosive with the lower half.
14:27 Even if he's punching well upstairs.
14:29 There's ways you can almost con your way through it.
14:33 Where you feint, you change levels, you shoot that snappy jab.
14:36 You almost can trick your opponent into fighting at the pace you want to fight.
14:42 Hard to do that in your second pro fight sometimes though.
14:44 You know what else is hard to do that?
14:45 The Mexicans, you wake up.
14:47 Those Mexicans man, once they decide they're in a fight, they ain't stopping man.
14:51 It's that Mexican fighter mentality.
14:54 You also got to think about Sanchez man.
14:55 He's looking for his first win.
14:56 He's spurred on now.
14:58 That's true too.
14:59 Nagarra, Nagarra.
15:00 Former National Golden Glove Champion.
15:02 That would be a big win for him.
15:03 Absolutely.
15:04 Runner up at the 2023 U.S. Olympic Trials.
15:07 December of last year and under a minute remaining in this fight.
15:11 A little cut and angle there from Sanchez.
15:13 Nice little rips and uppercut.
15:15 He mentioned that Mike Tyson S-punches.
15:17 There you go.
15:18 You see Lee here is too small to do his own self.
15:21 He's trying to pin Sanchez on the ropes.
15:24 He's trying to just stem the tide at this point.
15:26 Because Sanchez is really pouring it on this fourth round.
15:28 Good right hand there from Lee.
15:30 That's the place you want to be when you've got a four or five inch height and reach advantage on somebody.
15:37 Sanchez has done a really nice job of taking that reach away from Vershawn Lee.
15:41 And he keeps leading with the right hand.
15:43 He's allowing himself to fall in.
15:45 It's like why would you lead with the right hand?
15:46 You just use that jab.
15:47 A little slippery step around there from Lee on the inside.
15:51 And right to that right hand.
15:53 Good body work.
15:54 Lead right lands.
15:58 And go the distance.
16:01 And go the distance in another 1.2 seconds.
16:06 Hey.
16:07 Good work.
16:10 So will Luis Fernando Vega Sanchez earn his first professional win?
16:20 Or will that man, Vershawn Lee, move to 2-0?
16:24 You know Goldie, I'm very impressed with your commitment to saying his entire name all night.
16:28 That's very impressive.
16:30 Or could it be a draw?
16:31 I don't know the name.
16:32 Could it be a draw?
16:33 It was the last time Luis Fernando Vega Sanchez was here.
16:37 You know, with a Brazilian in my household, I'm used to 5, 6, 7 names.
16:43 That's fair.
16:44 Man, this is a piece of cake for you then.
16:47 Exactly.
16:48 Early on, Lee tried to establish that jab, guys.
16:53 You alright, my friend?
16:57 Yeah, it was a lot of staying at distance, using that jab.
17:00 Beautiful right hands to the body early on from Lee.
17:02 His class was really starting to show in rounds 1 and 2.
17:05 But Sanchez, man, that doggedness.
17:07 You see that right hand over the top.
17:08 Started to time Lee well as he was trying to evade and move out with his left hand down.
17:13 Sanchez was consistently able to find that right hand, especially the looping one over the top.
17:17 Which is what you want to do when you're fighting a taller fighter who's moving out.
17:20 There we saw it again.
17:21 Consistently landing that right hand in rounds 3 and 4 was Sanchez.
17:25 And round 4, man, Sanchez was all gas, no brakes.
17:29 Coming forward, being physical, making it rough.
17:32 Pushing the pace all the way through and a little bit after the bell too.
17:36 It's in the hands of the judges now.
17:40 Will it be number 1 for Vega Sanchez or number 2 for Vershawn Lee?
17:49 With the official decision, Jim Sorensen.
17:54 Ladies and gentlemen, how about another round of applause for these warriors.
17:59 After 4 rounds, we go to the judges' scorecards.
18:08 Judge Jed O'Connor and Breton Jackson both score this bout 39 to 37.
18:15 And Judge Brian Gary scores this bout 40 to 36 for your winner.
18:21 By unanimous decision and still undefeated, Vershawn Lee!
18:30 Vershawn Lee in just over a month's time has moved to 2-0 in his young professional career.
18:38 (audience cheering)
