00:00Hello, OG! I'm Isis. I'm JP. Welcome to our Mexican-inspired store here in San Andres, Manila.
00:07Welcome to La Elotes!
00:20Hi, I'm Isis, 23, owner of La Elotes. I'm JP, 23, owner of La Elotes.
00:29Well, it started during the pandemic. It was in July of 2020.
00:34I was just looking for something to do back then.
00:37And since small businesses were starting to boom, I was thinking of something unique to sell.
00:43And since the market then was a little small, I started to do Elotes first.
00:49Then, we expanded to tacos until we moved into a bigger space now.
00:59At that time, it was just me. He was just my customer.
01:03Then, he was just helping me out to buy corn because he was living in Pase City.
01:12So, he was near the suppliers.
01:14From February of 2021, he quit his job at an Italian restaurant.
01:21Then, we started doing this.
01:25I took a short course at a culinary school.
01:31Then, after OJT, unfortunately, there was a pandemic.
01:38So, I wasn't able to practice being a chef.
01:42My passion for cooking is what we did here in our small store.
01:54In January of 2020, there were videos on Facebook about Elotes.
02:00Then, we started to make it at home.
02:04It was before the pandemic. It was in January of 2020.
02:08We just fell in love with it.
02:10It was very comforting to us.
02:13As well as, we became a bond with the food.
02:16Actually, any type of food.
02:18But, I guess, it was the Mexican food that opened up opportunities for us to do this.
02:27Before La Elotes, I was in film.
02:30I was studying in St. Veniel.
02:40Unfortunately, it was difficult to go to film school online.
02:46For me, we were just students.
02:48We were 20 years old when La Elotes started.
02:52I was in OJT for 6 months.
02:57Then, there was a pandemic.
02:59And, this is it.
03:00It really shifted from student to adulting very fast.
03:09There were a lot of plans to open a stall after the pandemic.
03:13We even opened a food cart.
03:17Like a sidecar.
03:19Because, we didn't know how long the pandemic would last.
03:23We decided to expand the menu.
03:26People want options.
03:29Plus, also to sustain their business.
03:32Yes.
03:41We moved all of our stuff to Pasay.
03:46On our opening day, they set up a barrier.
03:51The police and ambulance were already moving around.
03:57On that day, we decided to go back to our house.
04:02We just set up our stall in our house.
04:10Our bestseller is Birria Tacos.
04:13It became our bestseller.
04:19Aside from that, of course, our Elotes.
04:27People really come here for Elotes and Birria Tacos.
04:31Then, recently, our drinks.
04:49Our capital was less than P10,000 when we started.
04:56After three years, we are earning P200,000 to P300,000.
05:03Well, on an average, we sell about P70,000 to P120,000 tacos per day.
05:11For those who are planning to start their business in their early twenties,
05:17just go for it.
05:18Just do it.
05:21Be very patient with yourself.
05:23Be present on days that you only eat three tacos a day.
05:27Be present on days that you sell 100 tacos a day.
