00:00Hello, OG! I'm Paola and this is my husband, JB.
00:04We're here in Parañaque and welcome to our newly renovated 1960s home.
00:09Tara, let's go inside!
00:10Initially envisioning a contemporary look, our perspective shifted when we stayed in the house post-tenant move-out.
00:32Regular visits revealed the charm of its original features, turning the house into our renovation muse, guiding us to design in harmony with its authentic form.
00:45Surprisingly, we chose to keep most of the elements we initially disliked,
00:51including the distinct features like the unconventional cut marble floors, Talavera tiles, wood parquet, and the unique stone texture of the house.
01:03Fortunate in replicating materials like extending balusters in our entryway, we're finding a craftsman where the molding was swift.
01:12However, mimicking textured walls were a bit of a challenge.
01:17Also, replicating terrazzo tiles posed challenges needed to be omitted due to potential timeline impacts.
01:25In total, the renovation spanned six months.
01:29The initial three months involved our contractor focusing on demolition, replacement of ceiling and height adjustments, electrical works, bathroom reconstruction, and retiling for some parts.
01:43Following the contractor, the painters took over.
01:47We moved in immediately after both phases, prompting us to undertake various DIY projects when challenged to find workers.
01:57The lot size is 300 square meters, and the floor size is 220 square meters.
02:04In that 220 are our master's bedroom, walk-in, our personal bathroom, kitchen and dining, living room, and my wife's personal studio, which is used for photography and other artworks.
02:27Contrary to the common belief in sticking to a single theme for the house, my wife dared to blend contemporary and antique elements.
02:37For instance, our round dining table is paired with contemporary chairs, and our low-profile beige scalloped couch compliments the unconventional cut of antique marble flooring and the presence of a chestnut piano.
02:54We're incredibly thankful to have our own home, a privilege in today's context, and it's exactly the home we envision.
03:09We patiently waited for years as it was occupied by tenants, renting elsewhere or staying with our parents.
03:17During our rental period, we often wished to enhance and beautify the space, but out of respect for our landlord, we refrained.
03:27The freedom to modify at any time now brings us immense joy.
03:33There wasn't really a struggle, but more work with outsourcing of workers when the contractor was done.
03:41It had become a blessing, actually, because we were able to learn a lot of construction skills, but everything else was just hard work and not a struggle.
03:52Our initial plan was a contemporary style, but the more time we spent in the house, the more we appreciated its original charm, as mentioned.
04:14Surprisingly, despite enduring various natural calamities, including earthquakes, there are no visible cracks.
04:23The allure of this house extends beyond its physical beauty.
04:28It resonates in its structure and quality.
04:32Even our contractor was impressed.
04:35There were even instances when the drill turned red due to the exceptional strength of the concrete during drilling.
04:44From the mindset of wanting a contemporary house, time made us realize which ones to keep and the ones to change.
04:54The parts that we decided to retain last minute naturally became beautiful to us and served as our basis to enhance it more.
05:03Mirroring our successful approach, like what my wife always says, even if we could rewind time, we'd stick with a well-preserved home.
05:12There are ways to modify and enhance its beauty.
05:16Perhaps we were just lucky that the layouts were feasible.
05:20It's more convenient, especially for your first house already to be standing, without having to worry about every step, unlike building from the ground up.
05:30She even mentioned that she thinks she could not sleep at night with all the worries attached to that.
05:38Importantly, by preserving, we contribute to conserving natural resources for others to use.
05:56So that's it for our house tour.
05:58I hope you learned something and got inspired from our renovation.
06:03Thanks for watching. Bye!
