00:00 Hi, I'm Sophie Mayline-Maylin and here are today's headlines.
00:04 Of course, the rugby league legend, a friend to many, leads the headlines today.
00:11 Rob Burrows, aged 41, has sadly passed away at Pinderfield Hospital here in Yorkshire.
00:18 There's been an outpouring of grief from people near and far for a leading light in the rugby league world.
00:27 Not only that, Rob was an incredible charity campaigner.
00:32 In fact, it was today at Seacraft Hospital when the Rob Burrows Centre for Motor Neurone Disease was due to start being built.
00:43 Rob's former club, Leeds Rhinos, confirmed the news and in a statement it said,
00:50 "On behalf of the Burrows family, we would like to thank the staff at Pinderfield Hospital for their compassion and caring for Rob in his final days."
01:00 Fittingly, as a tribute to the incredible work done by Rob,
01:04 the groundbreaking of the new Rob Burrows Centre for Motor Neurone Disease at Seacraft Hospital today will go ahead as planned at Rob's request.
01:15 At this time, we would like to ask that everyone respect the privacy of the Burrows family.
01:21 And of course, our heartfelt condolences go out to Lindsay, Rob's kids, Rob's family,
01:28 his best friend Kevin Sinfield, who helped to lead some of the charitable efforts that him and Rob did,
01:35 along with making a podcast that won awards as well as a book.
01:40 Rob's legacy will live on.
01:44 Well-wishers who want to pay their respects can do so on the South Stand at Headingley Stadium in Leeds.
01:52 Also in today's news, we look inside the old post office in Howarth.
01:58 Yes, this was the local post office of the Bronte Sisters, which is now a restaurant.
02:05 We've also got the latest from the general election campaign trail,
02:10 and we look at why Hull is often forgotten by politicians.
02:15 That's all for today's news. Keep following Yorkshire Post on social media for the latest breaking news.
