00:00 Hi I'm Elisa and this is Jax. We're here to raise awareness for diabetes
00:06 especially in young people. About a month ago I ended up with diabetic ketoacidosis
00:12 which basically turned my blood into acid and then from that I got septic so
00:17 I nearly lost my life due to diabetes and it being uncontrolled. Lots of young
00:23 people don't take it serious they think it's just a I'll eat right and then
00:28 they'll have a treat now and again and which is fine but if you're not
00:31 controlling sugars and looking at them and making sure everything's in range it
00:35 can go downhill quite quickly. I was diagnosed as type 2 so the diabetic
00:41 ketoacidosis is quite rare for a type 2 but then after my hospital stay I was
00:46 diagnosed as type 1 after getting diabetes through pregnancy so anyone
00:54 that's not looking at sugars and not monitoring sugars and thinking it's just
00:58 a bit of a bit of a inconvenience it is a lifestyle change to make sure that you
01:04 can stay safe and make sure that you can bring your kids up. Luckily I had good care
01:08 so that I could be here for my little boy but if not if I'd have left it an hour
01:12 later I probably wouldn't be here to look after him anymore so yeah just make
01:18 sure you check in make sure you're eating right and then you'll be all fine
01:22 to look after your little boys and girls.
