Liverpool is renowned for its historic architecture, with the city featuring over 2,500 listed buildings. The region even has more Georgian listed buildings than Bath, where smash-hit Netflix drama Bridgerton is shot.
Liverpool is also the most filmed UK city outside of London, with a host TV series and movies making use of the wonderful structures and scenery - doubling for everywhere from Moscow to New York.
However, numerous buildings have fallen into disrepair over the years, with many deemed ‘at risk’ by Historic England and a Grade I listed hall named on the Top Ten Endangered Buildings list for England and Wales for 2024.

00:00We're a city renowned for our historic architecture featuring over two and a
00:05half thousand listed buildings. The region even has more Georgian listed
00:10buildings than Bath itself. Liverpool is also the most filmed UK city outside of
00:16London with movies and TV shows making use of the city as a backdrop. However
00:20with some buildings falling into disrepair over the years we have asked
00:25you what places you would like to see improved.
00:28Well I usually have a bevy in the Shiraz bar just behind you now and there's a
00:34building behind this John Lewis shop and the back of it, it's falling apart. It
00:42needs a good whack of paint on it and plaster and all that. There's a few like.
00:48We're all fabulous from the Three Graces to everywhere but I would say the
00:53Bombed Out Church. I know it's a Bombed Out Church for a reason but it'd be nice
00:56to have it brought back. It's probably like the shops here on the corner like
01:02it's not getting used. It's just pointless sitting around or something like that.
01:08I always look on the positive side you know what I mean. I don't actually think
01:12things are ugly you know what I mean. They need doing up, well that's it.
01:16Most of them are listed and I'm fuming when they do pull them down
01:19because most of them are listed. I'm angry with a lot of them that have been
01:22pulled down because the list of buildings because of being done instead
01:26of demolished. A pair of historic buildings in Liverpool feature
01:30amongst the Victorian Society's top ten endangered buildings list for 2024. St
01:35Agnes Vicarage and Hall are said to be in a perilous state and require
01:39immediate remediation works. The unique Grade 2 listed Vicarage and Hall were
01:43designed by Norman Shaw in the 1880s. A spokesperson for the Diocese of
01:47Liverpool which owns the buildings said we would like to reassure people that we
01:52are looking for a solution that can keep this historic building in sympathy
01:56with the church and the local community.
