00:00 The visit to the Philippines was quick by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
00:05 He is hoping that he will deliver his message to the Filipinos.
00:10 Maris Umadi has the news.
00:12 In his first visit to the Philippines,
00:18 the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has not stayed in the country for 12 hours.
00:24 That's why he is worried that he won't be able to visit the beautiful Philippines.
00:28 I saw just people, people are very warm in the hotel, in the palace and in the streets.
00:36 I saw him, just smiling.
00:38 Even though Ukraine is in the middle of a war,
00:42 President Volodymyr Zelensky still deserves to visit our country
00:47 because this is how he values the voices of the Philippines and the whole region
00:52 in talking about peace and freedom.
00:54 He also made a good decision to come here to personally invite President Marcos
00:59 to the upcoming peace summit of Ukraine that will be held in Switzerland this June 15.
01:04 It was very important directly to invite the President,
01:08 directly to speak with him about the details of what's going on on the battlefield,
01:12 what Russia brought with this war to our land, all this crisis.
01:18 And of course for us it's very important not to give Russia possibility
01:22 to influence on Asia.
01:24 We are preparing our steps to peace and of course for us it's very important that
01:29 Philippines really support our territorial integrity and sovereignty.
01:36 A few days ago, during the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore,
01:40 President Zelensky announced his decision
01:43 to stop Russia and China from visiting the so-called summit.
01:48 You said Russia and China are trying to undermine your peace summit in Switzerland this month.
01:55 Do you think Russia and China are afraid that the summit would become such a huge success
02:00 that it could undermine their global influence and how so?
02:04 Yes, because it's a pity that China joined to Russia and now helps them
02:14 to push the leaders not to participate in the peace summit.
02:17 We've been in shock really because we count on all the world.
02:22 But I think this is a surprise for Russia and their allies that for today we have
02:30 the confirmation from 107 countries and this is a huge result.
02:35 I think that Russia counted that nobody will attempt the summit and nobody will participate us.
02:42 But you see that really mostly the world is on the side of peace.
02:46 He said that he will be able to say the same to his country
02:49 what is happening in the Philippines now amid China's invasion of our ships in the West Philippine Sea.
02:55 And that's why we have to hold the situation and we have to be together
03:00 with very strong and clean position that nobody can occupy your territory. Nobody.
03:06 I think that there are a lot of similar things and a lot of challenging challenges.
03:13 That's why we spoke with the president that now we need unity.
03:19 If we will stay strong it means that it will give very important signal to other countries
03:26 not to try even to think how to occupy other independent countries.
03:31 Ukraine is considered a small country compared to Russia
03:35 but you are still successfully standing up against Russia.
03:39 What kind of lesson can the Philippines learn from your experience
03:44 especially with all these tensions in the West Philippine Sea
03:47 and all the bullying that we've been experiencing from China?
03:51 The lesson is that if you are on your territory
03:57 if you are in unity between people, government, soldiers
04:03 I mean everybody will defend your house.
04:08 The world saw the resilience of our people.
04:12 And that's why my message to you, of course we wish you only peace
04:17 but you have to be ready and to think about defending shield for the country.
04:24 When asked what makes him stronger than Russia?
04:29 Yes, moral is good.
04:31 I think that Ukrainians are still strong because we are right.
04:36 Because we are with a very honest position.
04:39 We are on our land, in our house, with our lovely children
04:42 and we will stay till the peace will come.
04:48 This is what you want to tell the Filipino people.
04:50 Yes, and Ukraine will never forget on which side you are now.
04:57 Historically I think you are on the side of truth, on the side of peace
05:02 in any challenges for your country.
05:05 Ukraine will stay together with you.
