00:00Gentlewoman from Georgia. Thank you, Madam Speaker. My amendment strikes funding for the North Atlantic Treaty
00:06Organization, NATO, security investment program. My amendment would strike over
00:12433 million dollars in NATO funding from the bill.
00:17America should not be doling out hundreds of millions of dollars to international organizations to help them fight
00:25their enemies,
00:26especially when they are unwilling to fight for themselves.
00:30As of 2023, a majority of NATO countries do not meet their pledge to spend a
00:37minimum of 2% of their GDP on defense. The United States has been
00:43financing and promising to defend NATO countries for decades and paying more than its fair share,
00:49all while countries like Germany fail to fulfill their NATO obligations.
00:56European countries could and should be stepping up their financial contributions to ensure the security of NATO.
01:03Instead, they prefer the U.S. taxpayer to foot the bill, and if the time comes for
01:09American service members to die for them. Our
01:13continued involvement in NATO only undermines the security of our nation,
01:18because it embroils the United States and other countries' military
01:23entanglements, even if the United States has no direct interest.
01:27This is exactly what has happened in Ukraine, which could become a part of NATO.
01:33Billions of American taxpayer dollars go to the corruption
01:37capital of the world, and the sanctions placed on Russia end up actually hurting Americans. As
01:43long as we remain a member of NATO, the United States will continue to function as the military ATM of
01:51European countries at the expense of our own citizens,
01:55putting our own national security and our economy at risk. If the United States further
02:01involves itself in NATO, it may be another 20 years of Afghanistan all over again,
02:08except the outcome may end up being much, much worse.
02:12Madam Speaker, I reserve.
02:15Gentlewoman reserves.
