Australia's ski season could be half its current length by 2050, according to a report from the Australian National University and climate advocacy group Protect Our Winters. New modelling shows the average ski season could be between 44 and 55 days shorter, based on a medium to high future emissions scenario. The length of the ski season has already contracted between 17% and 28% across most Australian alpine resorts. Report co-author Professor Adrienne Nicotra says conversations need to be had, about the future of our snow resorts.

00:00The idea that the snow season is getting shorter has been around for a long time, but in the
00:07report, what we tried to do is to really think about the impacts of that, not just on alpine
00:11tourism, but on the regional communities that depend on that tourism, on hydroelectricity,
00:17on the water flowing into the Murray-Darling Basin, as well as on the environment and the
00:21biodiversity.
00:22We've tried to come up with some recommendations for things that can be done to really break
00:29all the stakeholders together to have positive and constructive discussions about responses
00:35that would help us offset those declines.
