00:12Famine exists when 20 percent of households are essentially starving, at least 30 percent
00:17of children suffer wasting and two adults or four children per every 10,000 are dying
00:23daily of hunger and its complications.
00:26As the report's authors, known as the Famine Early Warning Systems Network, say their ability
00:32to collect data has been impeded by the war and restrictions on humanitarian access.
00:41Israel has repeatedly denied there is famine underway in Gaza and rejected allegations
00:46it's used hunger as a weapon in its war against Hamas.
00:51A formal declaration could be used as evidence at the International Criminal Court as well
00:56as at the International Court of Justice where Israel faces allegations of genocide.
01:05The report also cautioned efforts to increase aid into Gaza are insufficient and urged Israel's
01:11government to act urgently.
01:18Much of Gaza's 2.3 million population has been displaced since the war began and their
01:24health ministry claims more than 36,000 Palestinians have been killed.
01:33Israel's expanding offensive in Rafa has largely cut off the flow of food, medicine and other
01:38supplies to Palestinians facing widespread hunger.
01:44In the south, thousands have returned to Khan Yunis where basic infrastructure is lacking
01:49and people are struggling to get the minimum amounts of water to survive.
02:00Meanwhile, despite pressure from the United States on Israel and Hamas to accept its three-phase
02:06ceasefire proposal, no agreement has yet been made.
