00:00I joined the Air Force on August the 8th, 1941.
00:10Why did you join the Air Force?
00:11Well, the war was on.
00:13That's what you did.
00:15You joined the service.
00:17You had any gumption at all.
00:26Everything that put on the uniform before us has molded where we are today.
00:31There's nothing that builds character like the military.
00:36And the friends you make are lifelong friends.
00:39The camaraderie within a squadron almost guarantees trust.
00:43You trust each other with your life.
00:45I feel I have a sense of purpose being part of the Royal Canadian Air Force.
00:50I really love it.
00:51It's not just a job.
00:52It's a way of life.
00:54The RCAF has given me that desire to want to make myself better.
00:58It is the most diverse it has ever been in history.
01:01And I think that's opened my eyes to exactly what Canada is and what it means.
01:06When you join the forces, it's because you want to make a difference.
01:09And sometimes you will give your life for the people.
01:12We will give, give, give, give, give until we cannot give anymore.
01:17The RCAF really follows a no-fail mission ideology.
01:21If we don't show up and do our job the right way the first time,
01:24aircraft fall out of the sky,
01:26you know, people get hurt,
01:27or the mission isn't achieved.
01:32We need a strong and viable Air Force to protect the country
01:37because nobody else is going to really do it except us.
01:42We help save people's lives.
01:44Canadians help save people's lives.
01:47We do everything we can to save someone's life
01:52or touch someone's life in such a personal way
01:55that they're probably going to remember for the rest of their life.
02:00Every day is a different day.
02:02Every day is a different adventure.
02:05You can't fly scared.
02:07You've got to fly aware,
02:09but great detail goes into planning a show.
02:11It's a big coordinated effort.
02:13It's very rewarding to do that because people are coming to you
02:16and being very cognizant of what you do is very special.
02:27We fly so superbly.
02:29The traditions that we have,
02:31the rigor with which we bring to it,
02:34the standards that we have,
02:36the lucky geography of this huge country
02:38that allows us to be sort of a national hero.
02:41A huge country that allows us to be sort of a natural training ground for pilots.
02:45Flying airplanes in support of our country
02:48to the absolute best of everybody's ability.
02:51I'm hugely proud of that.
