Gloomy Sunday is a 1999 German romantic drama film directed by Rolf Schübel. The movie is set in Budapest during World War II and revolves around the lives of three men who are in love with a beautiful waitress named Ilona.

Plot

The story follows Laszlo, a restaurant owner, András, a pianist, and Hans, a businessman, who all fall in love with Ilona. András composes a song called “Gloomy Sunday” which becomes a hit, but it also has a dark side effect - it is believed to have driven people to commit suicide. The fragile balance of the romantic triangle is disrupted when Hans falls in love with Ilona as well.
