00:00 Ladies and gentlemen,
00:05 Nine years into our community,
00:09 ASEAN is in a position of strength to embrace the future with confidence and vigor.
00:19 In the political realm, ASEAN has served the region well,
00:23 being the primary forum for dialogue,
00:26 diffusing disputes between countries and ensuring regional stability.
00:33 At the same time as the region's default convening hub for diplomacy,
00:38 ASEAN has become an indispensable part of adjusting to regional institutional fluxes.
00:48 In the economic realm, ASEAN has emerged as a dynamic and rapidly evolving economic hub,
00:54 resilient in the face of daunting challenges.
00:58 Favorable demographics, industrialization and urbanization trends,
01:03 and technological advances,
01:05 and now with energy transition and digital transformation,
01:11 we will increasingly see ASEAN as an economic powerhouse by 2040.
01:20 In these times of great uncertainty,
01:22 it is imperative to redouble our efforts within ASEAN,
01:28 towards strengthening ASEAN to be the key platform for managing regional affairs.
01:35 We need to move from mere rhetoric to concrete action
01:39 and focus on seeking ways to deliver on its aspirations.
01:45 We must start with addressing the underutilization of ASEAN's mechanisms.
01:53 ASEAN Regional Forum, the ASEAN Plus meetings, and the East Asia Summit,
02:00 which has been celebrated for its convening power in the past,
02:05 but now appear to plod along by fact of existence.
02:09 We should also be anchored on the fact that ASEAN's future development
02:14 evolves alongside its member states, their national interests,
02:19 and what we can collectively achieve together.
02:23 Now, as Malaysia prepares for the CHAIR in 2025,
02:27 we will strive to lead with moral character,
02:30 and stress upon the principles of Malaysia Madani and the General ASEAN Consensus.
02:37 This entails a civil and inclusive approach that celebrates interconnectivity.
02:45 In upholding the enduring principles of non-alignment and cooperation,
02:51 the Madani ideals demonstrate that it is possible to act respectfully
02:56 while being an active player in shaping our region.
03:02 Indeed, for Malaysia, ASEAN is more than a pillar of our foreign policy.
03:07 It is also a force multiplier, a valuable asset to exercise our agency.
03:16 Thank you.
