00:00 The government officially declared that the El Nino project is now completed.
00:04 The project is being prepared by the government and the rice supply is now in full swing.
00:09 This is Bernadette Reyes.
00:11 The land is 163,000 hectares and the land is worth more than P10 billion.
00:20 According to the Department of Agriculture,
00:22 the El Nino land is officially completed after almost a year
00:29 and until the end of May, it will experience 40 degrees of dry spell and drought conditions.
00:36 But by the end of this month, it will drop to 6 degrees only.
00:40 Our temperatures and heat indexes will drop
00:44 so the discomfort will also decrease because there will be a lot of cloudiness,
00:48 even short duration rainfall and isolated rain showers.
00:53 By the end of August, the El Nino will expect to bring more than usual rainfall.
01:01 We expect that the probability of more rainfall will increase by October, November, December
01:08 where this is the peak of our drought.
01:11 The El Nino is more worried, particularly by the Department of Agriculture
01:16 because if heavy rains and floods hit our agricultural lands,
01:23 it will be difficult to recover the damaged roots of the flood.
01:29 We still need to adjust our water management interventions.
01:33 The main and lateral canals of our irrigation
01:37 need to be ensured that these systems are in place
01:41 so that when the flood hits, we can be sure that excess water will be released.
01:47 In this rainy season, the NFA still needs to buy 72,000 bags of rice.
01:53 The NFA's warehouse in San Ildefonso, Bulacan
01:56 is already filling up with rice that can be used during the drought.
02:00 The 136,000 metric tons of rice purchased by the NFA
02:04 is equivalent to the four-day needs of the entire country.
02:08 This is less than half of the target 495,000 metric tons of rice
02:13 that should be used for the next day.
02:15 But it should not be neglected, especially when it rains,
02:18 more than 60% of the rice is bought.
02:21 This is the time of the flood.
02:24 We are not being flooded by a typhoon that will flood the entire Philippines.
02:27 We are getting a good harvest.
02:29 The NFA is just a buffer for calamity.
02:33 The NFA's continued purchase is an opportunity for farmers to sell rice at a good price.
02:40 If it rises by even one peso,
02:44 if you compare it to the trader, it's a big deal
02:47 because it can be added to buy rice husks, buy rice husks,
02:52 buy chemicals that can be used in the field.
02:55 The only challenge if it rains is the lack of machines that will dry the rice.
03:00 My instruction to all the regional offices of the NFA,
03:04 look for drying facilities that we can contract
03:07 so that we can bring wet rice.
