00:00 Benny Gantz gave an ultimatum to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu three weeks ago, threatening to resign.
00:07 His press conference is likely to make his departure official.
00:12 A pillar of the war cabinet and one of Netanyahu's main political rivals,
00:17 the head of the centrist Hosein L'Israel, Israel's resilience party,
00:22 had demanded that the Prime Minister outline his plans for Gaza after the war is over.
00:29 "While Israel maintains its security control, an administrative management of Gaza should be put in place.
00:35 It should include the US, Europeans, Arabs and Palestinians,
00:39 so it can set the basis of the future administration, but it will not include Hamas or Abbas."
00:45 Benny Gantz said the cabinet should approve by June 8th a six-point plan
00:52 which includes the freeing of the hostages, the eradication of Hamas
00:57 and this international administration of the enclave.
01:00 Gantz is seen by the US administration as an alternative to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu,
01:07 who has led the deadly war in Gaza after Hamas' October 7th attack
01:12 and who has rejected calls to reach a ceasefire.
01:16 If Gantz resigned, this would not cause Netanyahu's right and far-right coalition to collapse,
01:23 since it has a majority.
01:25 This could strengthen protests calling for early elections,
01:29 but it would also leave Netanyahu with his far-right allies who are opposed to a ceasefire.
01:36 Some fear this could bring new escalations.
