00:00It's the company's annual showcase of what's next for its biggest platforms and this year's
00:05Worldwide Developers Conference saw Apple unveil its foray into AI called Apple Intelligence.
00:12The technology will power tools including generating text and images and be integrated
00:17across its suite of apps.
00:19Recent developments in generative intelligence and large language models offer powerful capabilities
00:25that provide the opportunity to take the experience of using Apple products to new heights.
00:32It's also revealed a partnership with ChatGPT to bring the technology to its devices later
00:37in 2024.
00:39The announcement is the company's bid to reassure investors that it hasn't lost the
00:43AI race to rival Microsoft, which earlier this year dethroned Apple as the world's most
00:48valuable company.
00:51Though Apple has been quietly using AI to power features in its devices for years, it
00:55has long been reluctant to be transparent about this technology.
01:00Unlike Microsoft, which took an early bet on open AI, and the likes of Google, Meta
01:05and Amazon, which have also scrambled to capitalise on the AI race, investing billions into the
01:10hardware to power generative models.
01:13An added pressure is to reassure its investors of its place in the tech world, as chipmaker
01:18Nvidia passed Apple to become the world's second most valuable company, and its shares
01:23this year have trailed those of other big tech firms.
