ECHT production company was presenting a documentary film ‘Searching For Sea Monsters’ and had journeyed up to the far north Caithness coastline to build an eco-raft from found plastics and other debris they recovered from Dunnet beach. They were filmed by James and Alston as they searched for the mythical sea monster known as the Kraken – which they hoped to encounter in the choppy waters of the Pentland Firth.

00:00All right, get Alan out the way, right.
00:03Is this all done?
00:04No, so we're going to put the plywood, I think we're going to put the plywood on top.
00:07We are going to put plywood.
00:08Should we put plywood on top, do you think?
00:10I don't think it's necessary.
00:12What do you think, Alan?
00:13Maybe just hit plank in there.
00:14Yeah, we'll get that part done.
00:16I think it would look nicer.
00:17No, I think it looks nicer without the plywood.
00:19I'd leave the plywood out of it.
00:21Quick vote, team vote, James?
00:23Yeah.
00:24Plywood, no plywood.
00:25I kind of want Alan's opinion.
00:27Plywood, no plywood.
00:29I'm going to veto the plywood.
00:30I don't think it's necessary.
00:31No plywood.
00:32The council hasn't given you the power to veto.
00:35Council vote destroys the power to veto.
00:37No, no, it's fine.
00:39I honestly don't think the plywood is a good chat.
00:41It's a waste of time.
00:43We don't need to.
00:44Okay, well, let's get tying.
00:46If anything, get rid of those screws further in.
00:49You've got to have this finished by today.
00:51Exactly.
00:53How far are you on with it?
00:55Almost done.
00:56Almost done?
00:57Let's flip it.
00:59And tie as many things to the box as possible.
01:02Alison had a good idea of each buoy being in.
01:06So four buoys, one in each corner.
01:08And then everything else in the middle.
01:10We should probably have the big thing in the middle.
01:12Yeah, let's hope.
01:17Do you want to move the rope?
01:19That's pretty sturdy as things go.
01:23Do we need to...
01:24No, that's falling apart.
01:26Do we need to cut anything on the bottom?
01:28I don't think so.
01:29Like, for example, is that strengthening it?
01:33Definitely a little bit, but...
01:35What if we cut it so we can lay things in?
01:38Yeah, maybe.
01:40You've got the frame.
01:42That frame's not exactly...
01:43That one probably needs to be...
01:44Listen, we'll catch up with you tomorrow.
01:46I've got to go now.
01:48But good luck.
01:50You're trying to get this to Shetland.
01:53This will be done by six and we'll be...
01:55Yes, well...
01:57And you've got a paddle, have you?
01:59We've got to build those still.
02:00Still to be built.
02:01You haven't built them yet?
02:02No.
02:03Gee whiz.
02:05And you're building the outboard.
02:07And we're building the what?
02:08Outboard motor.
02:09An outboard motor, no.
02:10The motor's coming next.
02:11Well, then...
02:13The green tower.
02:14We'll see you tomorrow, anyway.
02:16Gills?
02:17Gills Bay, I think.
02:18Right, OK.
