00:15The situation in Israel has taken a dramatic turn as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu
00:20has dissolved the war cabinet overseeing the war in Gaza.
00:24This move came after a key member, retired General Benny Gantz,
00:28resigned from the emergency government citing disagreement with Netanyahu's policy.
00:34According to media reports, Netanyahu announced the dissolution of the war cabinet to ministers
00:38during a cabinet meeting on Sunday.
00:41He stated that the cabinet was in the coalition agreement with the National Unity MK Benny Gantz at his request.
00:47As soon as Gantz left, there was no need of the cabinet anymore.
00:52Gantz, a former Defense Minister without portfolio, had joined the war cabinet shortly after the war
00:57with the Palestinian militant group Hamas started last October.
01:01However, he resigned earlier this month expressing dissatisfaction with Netanyahu's approach to the situation.
01:07And so, following Gantz's resignation, another staff without portfolio,
01:11former IDF chief Gadi Eisenkot and Nesset member Yechel Tropper also resigned as an observer.
01:19Both Gantz and Eisenkot had cited Netanyahu's failure to form a clear strategy for the war in Gaza
01:25as the reason for their departure.
01:27During the government meeting on Sunday, Netanyahu defended his decision stating
01:31in order to reach the goal of eliminating Hamas capabilities,
01:34I have made this decision that we are not always acceptable to the military echelon
01:39adding that we have a country with an army and not an army with a country.
01:44Netanyahu is now expected to hold consultations on the Gaza war with small group of ministers
01:49including Defense Minister Yov Galant and Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer
01:53who have been the part of the war cabinet.
01:55However, he is facing demands from the nationalist religious partners of the coalition
02:00including Itaman Ben Gwir and Bezalel Smotrich to be included in the new cabinet.
02:06Prior to these developments, the military also announced a daily humanitarian pause
02:10from 5 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the area of Kerem Shalom crossing to Salah al-Din road, northwards.
02:17However, an Israeli military stated that when Netanyahu heard the reports of an 11-hour
02:22humanitarian pause in the morning, he made it clear to his military secretary
02:26that this was unacceptable to him.
02:29The military clarified that normal operations will continue in Rafah
02:32and the main focus of the operation in southern Gaza will continue as planned.
02:38The messaging surrounding this issue became further convoluted
02:42when the government suggested that Netanyahu only learned out of military plan from news reports
02:47although analysts believed that he was likely aware of the plan
02:50and each announcement was tailored to different audiences.
