00:00Expressionstar.com. We're talking to people on the streets of Starbridge,
00:04specifically Market Street here today, about the upcoming general election,
00:09who they're going to vote for, if they're going to vote indeed. We've got Anne and David Richards
00:14here. I believe you're not too interested in the politics and you're not intending to vote. Anne,
00:22why is that? Not that we're not interested in politics. We're very interested in politics.
00:26We take a lot of care in our local community. We do litter picks and tidies where the council can't
00:34spend money in our local area. So we've got a little group that we do tidying around where we
00:40live. However, this year we don't think we're going to vote, which will be the first time.
00:49We've always been Conservative voters. We are business owners, but obviously Conservative
00:58hasn't done anything for anyone over the last two years, however long they've been in.
01:05Actually, I can't think that Labour are going to do any better than those.
01:11So honestly, we don't think we're going to vote this year.
01:16David, do you concur with that? Yes, that's exactly what my feelings as well.
01:21Neither of them are better than each other, to be fair, and I think whoever gets in,
01:25they're going to drop a spike in it. So sad. We can only see it that way.
01:30And talking about business, how has that affected your bit? I mean, how is the economy for you at
01:35the moment? We're in childcare. We own a children's day nursery. We've owned it for 27 years
01:41and we kept open over Covid, whereas other local childcare centres closed down,
01:49and we lost a lot of money. David had to sell his beloved car and we're just trying to
01:56get by, basically. It's harder now than it's ever been. It's always been, not a lucrative business,
02:03but our business has been okay. Hard work. Yeah. But for you, obviously, business and
02:14the litter picking and everything, the local issues are more important to you. Absolutely,
02:18yeah. I mean, we have got Paul Bradbury, who's our local councillor, and Cameron and Peter,
02:28and they're fantastic and they are conservative, but they just are interested in local
02:34issues and what goes on in the locality. That's great. Thank you for talking to us.
