The Golden Pheasant is a stunning bird native to the mountains of western China. These birds are easily recognisable with their vibrant golden plumage and long tails. The males are particularly eye-catching, with their bright red face and yellow crest. Females are more subdued in colour but still beautiful. Golden Pheasants are quite large, measuring up to 90 cm in length. They mainly live in dense forests and thickets, foraging for food on the ground. Their diet consists of seeds, berries, insects and small animals. Though once threatened by hunting and habitat loss, conservation efforts have helped stabilise their population. These gorgeous birds are now kept in many zoos and aviaries worldwide for people to admire.
