00:17Following the recent heavy floods experienced by the city of Marikina,

00:22the local government has continued to focus on ensuring that the effects of the floods are limited,

00:28especially now that the rains have started.

00:30In addition to this, the Marikina LGU has a proactive framework system.

00:35This is being built by various offices, including the City Environment Management Office,

00:40which moves daily, where the waterways are included.

00:45We have what we call environmental monitoring of the waterways.

00:49Their task is to monitor the estuaries of Marikina every day.

00:55We have placed trash traps here so that we can identify the trash that we have removed.

01:07They also see that the residents of the city are disciplined.

01:11However, the trash in the estuaries or creeks that come from nearby areas remains a threat to them.

01:17To address this, they have memorandum of agreements in nearby areas

01:22to monitor and have a joint cleanup.

01:25When it comes to trash in the city, there is also a regulation on the use of single-use plastic.

01:30In addition to this, a large part of the flood prevention of the LGU is the continuous dredging of the Marikina River.

01:36We are increasing the capacity of the Marikina River

01:40so that we know that the rainwater that is coming will be absorbed.

01:45Based on our experience, we have a strong rainfall.

01:51There is really no flood in the Marikina City.

01:53Here, an amphibious type of bucket is used for continuous activity.

01:58At the same time, the LGU remains ready when the water level rises in the Marikina River.

02:03And if they need to evacuate, the evacuation center is ready in the city.
