Embracing environmental, social and governance (ESG) practices requires a shift in mindset and is more than just complying with regulations, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in his keynote address at the launch of Asia ESG Positive Impact Consortium in Kuala Lumpur on Friday (June 21).

00:00As we gather today, of course we are painfully aware of the challenges facing our environment.
00:17Hotter temperatures, more severe storms and increased droughts.
00:23We in Malaysia have experienced this too.
00:27Unprecedented and of course a major challenge to our limited resources and the patience
00:36of our people, particularly in the rural areas, in the heartland and also along our shores.
00:452024 has been regarded now as the hottest year on record.
00:52So make no mistake, ladies and gentlemen, there are no longer theoretical risks but
00:59the lived realities of many around the world.
01:03In response, governments around the world have agreed to cut their emissions.
01:09This has been accompanied by various measures to foster green innovation, catalyse sustainable
01:16economies and chart courses towards renewable energy transitions.
01:24In fact, the concept of Badani, the country's ethos of development, places sustainability
01:31as one of its seven core tenets.
01:35In this regard, the government is committed to embedding ESG principles into the fabric
01:41of governance, ensuring a sustainable and prosperous future for generations to come.
01:48We have implemented multi-faceted policies aimed at reducing carbon emissions, promoting
01:54social equity, creating new growth opportunities in green economy and ensuring, importantly,
02:02transparent governance.
02:04To this effect, substantial funds have been allocated for renewable energy, sustainable
02:11agriculture, green transportation, signalling our commitment to reducing the country's carbon
02:18footprint and promoting sustainable practices.
02:22We must recognise that achieving net zero requires a collaborative effort involving
02:29all.
02:30This is where I believe the formation of the Asia-ESG Positive Impact Consortium.
02:37It is timely, where it can leverage the prowess of three media giants to facilitate collaborative
02:45action between stakeholders, business and the public.
02:49I take this opportunity to commend the Indonesian and the Filipino Inquirer too.
02:55Here we ought to remember that embracing ASG practices transcends mere regulatory compliance.
03:04It necessitates a shift in mindset to embrace the principles of environmental stewardship,
03:12social responsibility and governance excellence.
03:18Therefore, I urge stakeholders, businesses, civil society and individuals to actively
03:26participate in achieving a sustainable and secure future for our next generation.
03:34Together, we can, inshallah, create a powerful synergy that drives meaningful change.
03:43Let us embark on this journey with a shared sense of purpose and optimism.
04:13Terima kasih.
04:14Maraming salamat po.
04:43Thank you.
