00:00So I'm always the person that gets asked all the time where you're really from, because
00:23I can hear from my accent that's not British, but they can't work out from what I look like
00:28where I'm really from.
00:30My mum came to England before I was born, from Germany, where my father went back to
00:37Ghana.
00:38My mum didn't know that he had a wife and children in Ghana, so she ended up in Streatham
00:46in the mother and baby's home.
00:50I always get emotional when I talk about this.
00:57My family moved to Europe as refugees because of the civil war in Somalia, and I've always
01:02been aware of the situation back home and how privileged we were in a sense to be able
01:08to move to Europe and have access to all of these opportunities and things like that.
01:13The social life in Syria is very different.
01:17I prefer what we was there because the people there are very social and very close.
01:23Sometimes you're going through things very hard because there's no place they support
01:29you.
01:30How to know everything clearly that was in the UK.
01:36Sometimes I am scared that nothing will change, like there's nothing I can do to change the
01:42way things are.
01:44But how I convince myself to keep going is just that if I do things bit by bit, slowly,
01:53in whatever capacity I can, that can bring out a small change which might take action
02:02in 10 or 20 years.
02:04Sharing our stories is very important.
02:08Diversity and difference is what makes us stick.
02:12And sameness is boring.
