Scorching Heat Wave Sweeps East Coast, as New York, Washington D.C., and Baltimore Declare Heat Emergencies

Parts of the East Coast are experiencing a heat wave with temperatures reaching 100 degrees or higher. Cities like Baltimore, New York, Washington D.C., and others have declared heat emergencies. Arlington County issued a heat advisory as temperatures broke previous records. Mayor Muriel Bowser of Washington extended the city's heat emergency, advising residents without air conditioning to utilize cooling centers due to expectations of near-record temperatures approaching 104 degrees. Nearly half of all heat-related deaths over the past 20 years occurred in homes, often among those without AC or health issues. Social isolation can also be a risk factor.
