00:00Are you leaning with the number two pick, are you leaning toward Ivan Demidov, who is
00:07the Russian forward, or Artem Leshchivov, who is the, Leshchinov, I believe is pronounced,
00:16Leshchivov.
00:17I listened to Craig Button pronounce these names and I tried to write them out phonetically,
00:22but I'm just curious, who would you take at number two, would you take the Russian forward
00:29or the Belarusian defenseman?
00:32I would take somebody that the name's easier to say, because as a broadcaster, we're going
00:40to be saying their name for a long time.
00:42So that's, you know, the interesting thing about it, and obviously, you know, you have
00:46to know the amateur side of it.
00:48And I think the difficulty with Demidov or Demidov, he's a left handed forward, I've
00:54seen many of the video on him.
00:56But I think that's why so many prognosticators or scouts or, you know, like, there's so many
01:02different publications that have ranked these players.
01:05But many of them have had to wait because they didn't see these guys a lot.
01:10And even me, I was watching some video, I don't know if he's playing against, you know,
01:16in junior terms, a tier two junior 18 or a major junior 18.
01:20And it's hard to tell like, but all I saw was a really good player with a lot of skill.
01:26And, and so with that compliment, the Chicago Blackhawks going forward, absolutely.
01:32You know, there's a lot of big left handed defense.
01:34And well, when I look at the depth chart of the of the Blackhawks, and one of the reasons
01:38why the big right hander from Michigan State is so popular is because he's a right hander.
01:45And our depth at the right handed defense isn't as strong as it is on the left side.
01:51You know what I mean?
01:52So, so I think that's where we're, you know, where Kyle and his staff are doing a great
01:57job of saying, Okay, we got a lot of graphics, we got a lot of prospects, but we can't fill
02:01up the same side of the ice and load up that area.
02:07So if it's the right handed D, that's great.
02:10If it's a left handed, you know, forward like Demidov, or Demidov, or however you say his
02:15name.
02:16But that's, you know,
02:17Oh, it's really, it's, are you there?
02:24Yeah.
02:25Yeah, it was really interesting that he trained, you know, that Kyle sent the 20th pick for
02:31the 18th pick.
02:32You know, I wonder if he's got something in store here.
02:34Like, I wonder if he's thinking, you know, maybe, maybe the guy that he wants will be
02:39at five or six, and maybe somebody wants number two.
02:43Maybe someone's in love with a with a Russian winger, and maybe he's not.
02:47And maybe he can make a move that way.
02:49I just think he's, he's got something creative up his sleeve.
02:52And so I wouldn't be surprised that he's that he's got a, you know, a big movement.
02:56The other thing about it is he's got so many assets.
02:59And that's why you load up the cupboard with with picks and with prospects is that, you
03:04know, you might be able to make a big hockey move, too.
03:07And this is the time to do it at the draft.
03:10And then you've got free agency that you can add to it.
03:12But I think there's a lot of possibilities there.
03:15And there's, there's certainly a lot of rumors.
03:16I'm not big on rumors, because I'm not inside their, you know, their their offices, but
03:21I'm sure they've got a A, B, C, D and E plans, you know, ready.
03:27And if nothing happens, then he then he takes what he wants it.
03:33But there seems to be a lot of a lot of talk about about taking the right handed defensive
03:38for Michigan State for sure.
03:40Quickly, before I let you go, we just watched Connor McDavid win the con Smythe as the greatest
03:44player in the NHL take his team to the Stanley Cup final in game seven.
03:49After one season of watching Chicago's Connor, is Connor Bedard capable in your mind of doing
03:55the same thing here with the Blackhawks?
03:57That's a great question.
04:01They are such different players, though.
04:03I mean, I, I broadcast the very first game that Connor McDavid did.
04:08And you know, I mean, they're different.
04:11He's a he's a he's a lightning rod, man.
04:15He gets the puck and just and goes and I couldn't get my eyes off him.
04:18Connor Bedard is a different player.
04:20He's a he's got a better shot than Connor McDavid.
04:23He's not as fast as Connor.
04:25He's got great hockey sense.
04:28I'm not saying he's got better hockey sense, but he's Connor Bedard is a smaller player
04:33and thinks the game extremely well that makes up for his lack of size or speed.
04:39So someday he can do it.
04:43That's because great players find a way to do it.
04:47Someday Connor Bedard will be in that position.
04:50And I know that he makes a difference and will be a difference maker.
04:55It's not in the next couple of years.
04:56We all know that.
04:57He needs to be surrounded with a lot of really high end players just like Connor McDavid is.
05:04And I can tell you that if McDavid didn't have Dreisaitl and didn't have Hyman and didn't
05:08have Nugent Hopkins, you know the drill I'm talking about, that he's not in the Stanley
05:12Cup final.
05:13And the same thing can be said with Connor Bedard.
05:14It's going to take some time.
05:16Panger.
05:17Thanks a ton.
05:18Great catching up with you.
05:19Just out of curiosity is, you know, we mentioned at 18th pick is Mitch Marner scheduled to
05:24join you guys at the Barn?
05:25That'd be great.
05:26That'd be great.
05:27We don't talk rumors.
05:28Thanks, Darren.
05:29No, no.
05:30Yeah, there's a lot of interest in that guy for sure.
05:31He's a heck of a kid.
05:32I'll be honest with you.
05:33I think those guys in Toronto, the magnifying glass is very large on those guys and sometimes
05:34it's not fair, but he's a heck of a player.
05:35Great stuff, Darren.
05:36Thank you a ton.
05:37Enjoy the draft.
05:38Thanks.
