00:00We would like to thank the Department of Tourism as well as the organizers of PNWTO for giving
00:23us the opportunity to promote Muslim-friendly food and halal food in this gastronomy tourism
00:30event.
00:31We are very thankful because as you know, it is very, very important for us to be able
00:35to prepare Muslim-friendly food as well as halal food for our Muslim brothers and sisters,
00:41especially when we are talking about 15 million Muslim Filipinos already in the country, as
00:46well as our nearby Muslim countries such as Brunei, Indonesia, and Malaysia, and the Middle
00:51East.
00:52So, it is very important that we will be able to provide Muslim-friendly food and halal
00:56food to them.
00:57Hello, everyone.

03:39Let's go!
03:40Strategies will really not mean anything if it does not contribute to the livelihood
03:48of our fellow Filipinos.
03:50So that is our focus.
03:52Whether it's in the long term, the medium, or the short term, our focus really is to
04:08kasi mas mabibigyan pa yung ating mga kababayan ng opportunities in terms of expanding their
04:14business, sources of income, in terms of providing livelihood and employment opportunities everywhere
04:20in the country especially.
04:22That many of our regional destinations are also able to offer delicious Filipino food
04:31to our tourists.
04:33I saw Chef Margarita earlier.
04:35One of her recommendations was better infrastructure.
04:38So included ko yun sa roadmap?
04:41Well, the improvement of infrastructure is very well embedded in the National Tourism
04:46Development Plan for 2023 to 2028.
04:49And as a result of our continued collaboration with the Department of Public Works and Highways,
04:54over 300 kilometers of tourism roads were constructed, expanded, and cemented in the
05:01year 2023.
05:03And we foresee this to further expand exponentially, knowing the President's pronouncements that
05:12investment in tourism infrastructure is a priority.
05:15He enunciated this during his inauguration of our tourist rest area in Pilopos Norte,
05:22which is also a manifestation of the Philippine government's commitment to improving tourism infrastructure.
05:27Kasama na din po diyan yung work natin together with the Department of Transportation.
05:33Kasi the Philippines, being an archipelagic nation, requires improvement in terms of sea travel,
05:41land travel, and of course air travel.
05:49IA airports beginning in September.
05:52Fourth coming na din po yung PPP for Iloilo, as well as Lagindingan Airport in Mindanao,
06:02and several other ones in the pipeline.
06:05Pading na din po yung expansion of our seaports to benefit cruise tourism.
06:17identified destinations.
06:18And we continue to lobby with the DOTR to improve the condition of our seaports as well.
06:24We foresee that with this massive investment by the government in tourism infrastructure,
06:31it will allow us to be able to increase our competitiveness,
06:37especially under global travel and tourism indices.
06:40Ma'am, it might be jumping the gun a little, but if we do host a gastronomy center,
06:46are you asking more funds in the 2020 budget?
06:52Yes. Well, the Department of Tourism does have an infrastructure arm in the form of DIEZA,
06:58Tourism Infrastructure Enterprise Zone Authority.
07:01And so we will certainly discuss it with DIEZA as far as trying to muster funding as necessary
07:10as a result of our discussions as well with UN Tourism since these details have not been finalized.
07:17Tourism is the slowest to recover in Asia-Pacific region in 2023 compared to other neighboring countries.
07:23And with the success of this event, magdi-month?
07:26Diligyud.
07:27You can answer it in Tagalog.
07:29Yes. I think what we have to understand is that this survey examines only the warm bodies that come into the country
07:39vis-a-vis the arrivals as far as our ASEAN neighbors are concerned.
07:45Pero sukad manggud sa pandemic, no?
07:48Ang atong metrices for measuring tourism performance is no longer simply on the quantity but also on the quality.
07:56The quality of which is very evident in our visitor visits.
08:00Makita natong pamaagi sa atong efforts, no?
08:03Ubo sa Marcos administration to really promote and develop tourism.
08:07Tourism has experienced the highest growth rate ever recorded by the Philippine Statistics Authority in 24 years
08:16at an 8.6 contribution to our GDP.
08:27And global data will show you that the recovery of visitor receipts as far as the Philippines is concerned
08:34actually far outweighs the global average for the recovery of visitor receipts.
08:39At the end of the day, paraun saman ng turismo.
08:42Ang turismo para sa atong makaigsuunang Pilipino.
08:46Nga ato silang makatagan ang higayon, nga makatrabaho, makabatun,
08:49ug panginabuhi, ug nga mulambo ang kinabuhi silang pamilya.
08:53And tourism under the Marcos administration has done just that.
08:57Employing over 6.21 million Filipinos in 2023 alone.
09:04And so, I would say that notwithstanding this very limited view of tourism performance,
09:15all the other metrics for measuring tourism performance would show
09:19that the Philippines is performing phenomenally well
09:23as evidenced by our hosting of this very first global gastronomy tourism event.
09:30Thank you.
09:31Ma'am Moises Crispo from Magdalena Times.
09:33Hello.
09:47of course includes the development of film tourism and health and wellness tourism
09:53which is why we are very excited actually to host the first
09:58International Health and Wellness Summit for the Philippines in the latter part of this year.
10:05And as far as film tourism is concerned,
10:07we're working very closely with the Film Development Council of the Philippines
10:10as well as our local film producers and international film stakeholders
10:18to be able to vie for the Philippines as a viable film tourism destination.
10:23So, we're actually coming out with a campaign for a Philippine film tourism
10:27that's focused on these efforts.
10:30And that also will see light of day in the latter part of this year.
10:35Thank you, ma'am.
10:36Salaam.
