00:14and coastlines is now headed to the desk of Governor Ron DeSantis, who is expected to
00:19sign it. Under the new policy, balloons willingly released outside would be considered a non-criminal
00:25littering offense, and residents could face fines of up to $150. Speaking on the purpose
00:32of the ban, State Representative Linda Cheney, who sponsored the legislative effort, said

00:38Balloons contribute to the increase in microplastic pollution, which is harmful to every living
00:42thing, including humans, polluting our air and drinking water.
00:47If DeSantis signs the bill into law, it will take effect this summer.
