00:00Now the first defense of his national title Anthony Hibbs calls him to center ring.
00:16Receiver sitting alongside Barry Michael and Mark the Hammer Castagnini the main event is
00:21upon us gentlemen. Well let me tell you so much hype around this fight, my phone's blowing up
00:27on social media, I've already had Joel Camilleri say he wants the winner, Benjamin Bomber's back
00:32trying to rock Bogaty, they're up for the challenge as well and also a big shout out Elijah Salisui and
00:38his beautiful partner congratulations on the birth of your son. Elijah also looking to step
00:44back in the ring in September so boxing is alive and everyone's watching here on Seven Plus so
00:49thank you all for tuning in. That's fantastic, that's absolutely fantastic Mark, great to see
00:54and look both boys having a look at each other here in the opening stanza. They all want a piece
01:00of the winner Camilleri. For sure for sure you know it's going to be it's going to make for
01:05bigger and better fights. Good to see Benjamin Bomber back too, a young man with a with a big
01:09future after the upset with Zubar, I'd love to see him back as these two already mix it up
01:15it's going to be an entertaining battle hopefully for the duration. Some you know great fights ahead
01:21of us in the future, a great matchup. Certainly not having to go looking for each other there's a
01:30sharp jab there from Luke Brubaker. Using the feints or trying to sit on that right hand as
01:39well. He's got a lot of power in his right hand Jack Brubaker. He's going to put the pressure on
01:44early it's evident Brubaker doesn't want to let Luke settle and get into his rhythm because that's
01:50when he comes into his own Mitch Leake. He's got a great fighting IQ and beautiful timing.
01:55At the moment Brubaker looking very composed and very tight. Well on that Barry the experience
02:00factor Brubaker's boxed 160 rounds professionally. Leake just the 36. He's only been past the four
02:06rounds once and that was six weeks ago against Rodriguez when he lifted the title. Yeah that's
02:11a lot of difference. So we've got a bit of a chess match at the moment both boys feeling each other
02:18out still. Oh it's caught on the way in Brubaker just had that that right hand down a touch and
02:24Leake picked it beautifully with that hook. Just overreach there Brubaker didn't he trying for that
02:29long right hand. One minute to go round one. You can almost see Leake trying to stamp his dominance
02:38as well and not be intimidated by the pressure of Brubaker. Brubaker's I think having a pretty
02:44reasonable opening round here looking very confident and composed.
02:50Leake commanding center ring though Brubaker circling slowly.
02:58Oh nice hook again. The game plan I can see is for Leake to get that hook
03:04after the right hand strike. He's left the right fire the hook. Didn't just exchange left hooks
03:09then broad grins at each other after. Oh nice level changing beautifully as well.
03:28The first real clinch of the opening stanza which is in its final second. Heavy leather in the first
03:36round. Gentlemen heavy leather already in the first.
03:46Pretty much teaching up from when you first put a set of gloves on to right up through to jumping
03:52in the ring in front of 2,000 people. Just achieving something in the ring you know finishing
03:57off that eight week program and then jumping in the ring and fighting in front of you know thousands
04:02of people is a big achievement no matter if you win or lose it's a great experience.
04:09Not a lot of power punches thrown and a difficult round to score Hammer and Barry.
04:13Difficult round yeah not a lot in it I don't think. Yeah it was it was real you know they
04:18both had their moments in that first round. Yep. I saw strategy and game plan from both men coming
04:24Brubaker looking to consult you know stamp his authority early. Yep. Leake looking for the
04:28countering so you know the speed they know he's going to come forward hard and then try and make
04:33him pay when the opening's there. Yeah both boys landed some pretty good shots. That short left
04:37from Leake midway through the round was probably the pick of the punches thrown in the opening
04:42three minutes. We move into the second stanza of a scheduled 10 and Leake starts with a double jab.
04:47Beautiful double jab Brubaker shows he's got it too.
04:50Double jab cross that rolling right from Brubaker's got around the back of the neck of
04:59Leake you think if he just adjusts the distancing a bit that it's going to pay some dividends for
05:04him. Yeah we know we know he's got a heap of power in that right hand Brubaker he's got a right hand
05:09bomb when he landed. Leake's just getting on the inside of it perhaps to set up that left hook.
05:15I think Leake is still only round two he's having to look at his opponent I think he's
05:19intelligently working him out. Leake has power in both hands yeah that was a lovely
05:25Chris right hand. Right hand then pivoted to the right hand side completely nice work from Mitchell
05:31Leake. Yeah the step around's a good move on Leake and for a fighter that hadn't had a big amateur
05:37career I think every day he's trained a little bit with Peter Hutton and done you know a little
05:40bit of dabbled here and there then settled in with Team Alice has just matured beautifully yes and
05:45settled into the pro ranks look at that he's dug in deep with that body shot.
05:50Chopping right there from Brubaker just grazed the whiskers that landed though.
05:55You know just just just barely you know he still didn't have any effect on
06:00Mitchell Leake but they were good shots from Brubaker.
06:06Brubaker's got the big right Leake has power in both hands he's
06:11sat opponents with lefts and rights he's got a 50% knockout record and Brubaker
06:17just under 50% with eight of his 18 victories coming via the short route.
06:23Brubaker you know he's grinning a lot seems very confident at the moment hasn't you know
06:30been worried by anything so far that Mitchell Leake's landed. Well it's those mind games too
06:34Barry even if you get hit with something you smile and go didn't hurt me but it really did you know
06:39you don't know how they're playing it psychologically true.
06:46That will be classed as a knockdown I reckon he stumbled and then Leake cashed in didn't he with
06:51that little exactly Bruce yep a little left he landed a right to the body and he got caught with
06:56the left of the temple I think he was off balance he's there but that left hook is that left hook
07:01has been drilled a few times I reckon for this fight. So that makes it a 10-8 round for the
07:07reigning champion. Yeah I'd like to see that replay. And again the bob and weave with a step
07:13around from Leake he does it those angles that are really nice and crisp and clean and still
07:18in range of counter punching too. And look at Mitchell Leake he's um oh beautiful work there
07:24his defense is tight as is Barry look at that his defense is beautiful there he blocked every
07:28roll every block or roll from every one of those shots.
07:33Intensity ramping up late in this second round
07:36and that will be a 10-8 round to Mitch Leake with the knockdown late in the round yep.
07:41Get knockout betting value with great promos great odds and more markets at palmerbet.
08:01What are you really gambling with? For free and confidential

08:06So we'll see hopefully the the knockdown here Barry it was just a slight stumble from
08:12Jack Brubaker and Leake capitalized with a little short left. Look at that step around that that was
08:20great footwork there Barry wasn't it just changing angles. Excellent excellent work
08:24there Brubaker. A bit of Dave Hedgcock footwork happening there.
08:36We just didn't get to see the knockdown there but a 10-8 round would have liked to have to Mitch Leake.
08:43So we move into the third. Brubaker happy to sit in the pocket and get on the inside.
08:51Brubaker might be trying to get on the inside because on the outside Leake's pretty polished
08:55and he's got great timing. So you might want to take this in one into the phone box and keep it
08:59tight. Both willing to trade now they are really letting their hands go in the first 30 seconds
09:05of the third. Exchanging some real big shots here.
09:13Look at that beautiful rear parry he's got that beautiful rear parry Leake of the jab.
09:19Brubaker momentarily moved to southpaw now back to orthodox. Yeah and he looks like he's enjoying
09:26himself Jack Brubaker a lot of smiling. Oh countered there. A stiff left on the counter
09:33from Leake and Brubaker just misses with that sweeping right hand again. That right hand of
09:38Brubaker is always dangerous. Here's a question for you Barry because these guys have done rounds
09:43in sparring together. Yep. What do you reckon that has but that's playing into this fight at all
09:47because they would know each other's movements a little bit there. They would I believe they've
09:51only sparred once I think and it was pretty competitive what I've heard. Hell of a session.
09:57Box. We've got a quality fight on our hands two well-matched opponents here.
10:04Big one. Good right hand again by Brubaker. Spar wasn't that long ago would they have held
10:11something back knowing that they potentially were going to be facing each other with so much
10:15at stake and on offer here. Probably not I wouldn't think because pride takes over when
10:20you're up against someone that's a potential you know opponent. You try to make a statement in a
10:25gyms bar or whatever. It's strange because generally fighters will avoid each other if
10:29they think they're in the realm of being matched together. So for them to step in and actually
10:33throw down in sparring and then transition to fighting each other I find that very interesting.
10:37It's good. Plenty of power shots being thrown now. Inside the final minute of the third.
10:45We've got a real good real good fight here. Both boys are you know landing good punches and
10:50countering and Leak's nice boxing a little bit better maybe but oh there's that right hand from
10:57Brubaker. That right hand's a killer from Brubaker. There's a bit of swelling over the left eye of
11:01Leak too. You have a look at the damage on that right hand. Brubaker landed some good shots there.
11:08Yeah the swelling over the left eye of Leak is going to be potentially an issue because that's
11:12going to stop the visual of that right hand. Yeah a little mouth under the left eye starting to
11:16appear as well. Well picked up Hammer. They're going to have to go to work on that. Good last
11:19minute for Jack Brubaker. Yeah and when you're a fighter and you see the damage that you're doing
11:24on your opponent it grows your confidence, your expidentiality. Yeah you know Brubaker's
11:31Mitchell Leak's eye is not looking too good at all. Yeah. Been a strong round from the New South
11:35Welshman. And the third is in the books. We'll take a quick break. Hammer and Barry will analyze
11:43what we just saw right after this.
12:16Absolutely Bruce. Yeah I think it was Barry. Yeah look you know Brubaker's well in this fight for
12:21sure. A bit messy there. I still see Leak's reaction time being that little bit quicker
12:31for Brubaker. What he lacks in reaction times he makes up for in power. So there's the equation
12:38isn't it. He's doing a lot of laughing Jack Brubaker when he misses shots.
12:42Well he always seems to be enjoying himself. He does but I tell you it's going to get serious
12:46from here. Round four. Someone is going to land a big shot shortly. This main event proudly brought
12:55to you by Calcane Constructions. Great partners of Team Alice Boxing. The premier boxing series
13:02show on seven plus on a cold Wednesday night in Melbourne. But by gee the action is hot in
13:07center ring. Stamping down the right hand is Leak but Brubaker smashes to the carcass of Leak.
13:16Digged hard of the body there. He's got a heart a huge heart Brubaker and he looks like he's
13:21enjoying himself up there the cowboy. I think he's at that point in his career where he's
13:25getting in and just having fun with it you know. The pressure's sort of off for him now isn't it.
13:29Yeah just getting in you know having having a crack and seeing where it takes him in the
13:34latter years. For sure. It's his 26th professional contest. 18 wins a couple of draws.
13:40He's 32 years old now. Been with some quality opponents. And you've got Camilleri and Benjamin
13:46Bomber watching to see watching every move of these two. The potential match-ups. Joel's got
13:52Wes Capa to deal with. Yeah he said if I deal with once I deal with Capa he wants he wants a winner
13:57of this. That'll be a beauty as well. Yeah look Joel Camilleri I think he's he's really gone to
14:02another level. Stiff jab there from Leick. Obviously working with the team Zoo. Yeah great
14:08sparring you know great great place to be great crew to be working in.
14:16Stamping down that right hand but Leick that double jabs work beautifully for him. Fires nicely
14:22and accurate. It is Brubaker's signature punch that chopping right isn't it. As he's head job
14:29back again though Leick has such starch in his jabs.
14:33Leick right eye. He's now marked under the right eye as well. Yeah we spoke about Liam
14:40Parrow earlier too having that world title. So once again we celebrate that. Yes that was amazing.
14:46Sparring partner Rocky Ogden as well back up back will be going around again. All the boys at NTG
14:52watching tonight as well. So would you believe I backed Liam Parrow at 750 about three months ago.
14:58Yes I would believe that. Oh one two sat down on that right hand beautifully.
15:06That was a little bit low. Brubaker's a very good sport. Good left rip that was. Oh we had a head
15:13clash. We've had a head clash and Brubaker's cut. The claret's starting to flow now in this one.
15:19Jack Brubaker's got a cut between the eyes.
15:22Yeah over the right eye.
15:26Yeah it doesn't look like there's any turrets.
15:30Two great punches from Mitch Leick but Brubaker responds in kind.
15:33This one's just up the tempo a bit gentlemen. They're going toe to toe at the moment.
15:41Storming finish to the fourth round. Jack Brubaker's calling on the crowd
15:45to get even more involved. Wow statements made.
15:52So
16:14an accidental head clash with about 45 seconds remaining in the fourth has opened up a gash
16:19over the right eye of Jack Brubaker but by gee there was a many power punches thrown from both
16:25lads in that fourth round. Look you know it's a really good fight so far and uh you know it's
16:31sort of a bit seesawing a bit hard to pick which way it's going to go both forwards are having a
16:35moment. If you've joined us late. Oh there's the butt yeah nasty head clash. Someone seven plus
16:43Lucas Miller successfully defended his Australian light heavyweight crown with a spectacular
16:48first round stoppage of Matt Sheen earlier but this is uh getting into the trenches now.
16:54They're sitting in center ring and testing each other well and truly these two now.
16:58Aren't they? They're going toe to toe and Brubaker's loving this. He loves the punch up.
17:03Look he wants a war. Keeping that left hand up covering and countering is Mitch Leick.
17:08Rolling from side to side to generate power. Brubaker just the brutal Brubaker
17:15just throwing that right hand with no no uh caution for his own health. He does not care.
17:23He doesn't care. Just both happy to sit in the pocket and trade sitting down on their
17:27punches now and Brubaker calling on the younger champion. He's duly delivering. It's a hard
17:36fight. It's a heavy hard fight. They're going toe to toe at the moment. Both boys well marked
17:42up. Good shot by Mitchell Leick there. Brubaker reminds me of an MMA fighter. Cowboy Cerrone.
17:47He's the same. Just gets in and just doesn't care. Fans love him and he delivers always so
17:54he's very reminiscent of that. He's Brubaker. He's a tough cookie. The cowboy. They say if you love
18:01what you do you never work a day in your life but it's the toughest occupation of all. Jack Brubaker
18:07he's come to entertain. This is great experience for Mitch Leick as well isn't it? Still in the
18:11formative stages of what is going to be a super impressive pro career. Yes without a doubt his
18:17biggest test right here right now for Mitch Leick without a doubt. Undoubtedly his biggest test by a
18:22mile and you know he's not he's certainly not out of the woods yet. He's got a really uh competitive
18:29doubt here. I thought by around five here that maybe Mitch might have started getting on top but
18:34Brubaker was holding his own I reckon. Stinging uppercut at the start of that exchange from Leick
18:40and Leick's rolling and rolling the punch through as well beautifully. Have a look at that. Dips the
18:45shoulder, digs up and sets up the next punch via the body rotation. So generating power through
18:52the through the torque in the hips. Textbook stuff from both. An exchange massive left hooks.
18:58Exchange of big punches and Brubaker just shakes his head when he gets nailed and just says come on.
19:04Come on. The toughness personified is Jack Brubaker. He certainly is. Oh good
19:10left right from Brubaker. He's always dangerous.
19:16Big hook from Brubaker. Massive hook and on the inside. 20 seconds remaining round five. We've
19:23got a war on our hands here. Oh nice rip of the body. Brubaker says no it didn't hurt me but oh
19:31massive left hook. Get that to the right hand. Pinpoint accuracy from Leick. Both boys taking
19:38turns teeing off on each other. Looking at the corner. That is Leick for advice. Lifting to the
19:45corner. Doing all the right things. Brubaker's here for the fight. What a main event we have.
19:50And we're only at the halfway mark. Awesome main event.
19:54The whole community. Everything about it makes it great. Amazing vibes. Amazing place to be.
20:00Great people. Definitely come down if you're looking to get into boxing. You can make so
20:04many new friends. You can meet so many new people and you can get fit off. Get fit shed a bit of
20:09weight. Learn a little bit about boxing. Great coaches. Great people. Get on the phone. Let's
20:14do it. Get down to Team Island's gym. I promise you you won't regret it.
20:17Five down five to go and it hasn't disappointed at all the Australian middleweight title
20:24fight between Mitch Leick the defending champion in the black trunks and Jack Brubaker in the
20:29orange and white. Yeah look we've got a war on our hands and there's not a lot in it. I think it's
20:33probably you know Brubaker looks probably a little bit in front. What do you think Hammer? But it's
20:39close. Yeah I think I think Leick could be a little bit up. He's probably had the more accurate
20:43shots but Brubaker's you know he's at his moments too. He certainly has. You can't write any of them
20:49off. No you can't write anyone off. They both feel well and truly in this fight. Tough even
20:53fight at the moment. I think we're going to have the ringside doctor have a look at the cut. Yeah
20:57have a look at the cut over Jack Brubaker's right eye from that accidental head clash.
21:01This ringside doctor is actually a fighter herself so it's good when you've got a position
21:06that actually understands the sport. They don't panic. They're very composed with their decision
21:10making. So she's had a few amateur boxing fights and she knows the deal and is here to look after
21:16the fighters also. And she waves it on so we start the sixth. Remembering Mitch Leick would
21:22have got that 10-8 round in the second with the flash knockdown. So Leick digs to the left
21:29beautifully. Left hook is timed well like that and then he's got that beautiful step around with the
21:34right hand roll. Nice little right hand. You'll watch him step around and any as he rolls and
21:39weaves he'll pop up and he'll throw that right hand over the shoulder of Brubaker.
21:44The game plan's evident from him. Brubaker well he's just going to throw everything at Leick.
21:53Excellent reset. Leick on the unofficial cards. Probably a couple of points ahead. Yeah Brubaker
22:01slowing up a little bit to me. Oh he comes back beautifully there. Left left right hand.
22:05Commentator's curse. Commentator's curse. That's always the way.
22:11He's waving at waving to us. He'd be happy to say good day. Probably waving to one of the girls.
22:18Brubaker lets his hands go again and then good evasive action just misses
22:22or just misses this Leick with a whistling left hook.
22:28Leick nice jab straight linear fast and accurate. I'll tell you what you know the second half of
22:33the contest or we're in the second half now this is going to tell a story because new territory for
22:39Mitchell Leick against someone who's experienced as Brubaker who's been here many times. I still
22:44think that Mitchell Leick's going to come out on top but you know Brubaker's putting up a really
22:49good fight. No signs of fatigue from either fighter. 70 seconds remaining in the sixth of
22:56a scheduled 10. Not 12 just 10 for this national title fight. You cannot question the dedication of
23:05Mitch Leick. He lives on the other side of town. Drives like two hours to get the training.
23:10Incredible. You know the dedication. That's dedication. His old school dedication that's
23:14that's what I call it. Certainly is. Not many you know not many people would go that far. No. Work
23:19that hard and put in such commitment and he's he's testament of what the results you get when
23:24you're dedicated loyal and committed. Yeah I couldn't agree more. Mitchell Leick down to the body up to the head.
23:30Brubaker tough as you like. As I said he's a boxer's boxer. Anyone that loves boxing loves to see
23:36Jack Brubaker in there because they certainly get their money's worth. They always get a war.
23:43One two. Mitch Leick trying to keep that range control happening.
23:48Push his head down. Leick step back. Final 15 seconds of the sixth. Leick's probably done the cleaner work
23:55again in this stanza. He's having they delivered. He's too tough as you like. They're both tough.
24:02Lovely left right. He's enjoying himself up there. Getting the crowd involved. Great entertainment on
24:08the premier boxing series on seven plus and the sixth is in the books. You'd lean to Leick again.
24:16Mitchell Leick to me looks looks a bit fatigued going back to the corner. He really looked a bit
24:21gassed. He's in uncharted territory. Get knockout betting value with great promos, great odds and more markets at Palmer Bear.
24:39What are you really gambling with? For free and confidential support call the number on the screen
24:43or visit the website. Four rounds to go. Mitch Leick looking to defend his Australian Middleweight
24:52title and Barry just you were just a little concerned towards the end of that sixth that
24:56the champion might be starting to fatigue. Yeah well he looked he looked very fatigued at the end
25:00of that round and you know we still got four rounds of war here and you know Brubaker's been in this
25:06territory many times. But you know saying that Mitchell Leick could come out and get a second
25:13win and just go to another level. Still 12 minutes to go. Brubaker has been the distance on so many
25:19occasions. Such a hardened seasoned veteran. Good punching from both boys. Rally on the inside and
25:29Mitchell Leick looking to his corner.
25:33Seven plus has really brought boxing to the fore. So many people watching tonight. Steve
25:38Hancock and all the boys of Stand Up Fitness love watching the fights and they're even
25:43tuning in. Everyone's watching this fight. It's amazing let me tell you. The socials are going off.
25:49It's great to see Mark. You know boxing's back big time. Boxing's going to be on TV more and more.
25:54It's booming. It's booming in this country. It's booming globally as we know and Leick edging the
26:01early part of this seventh round. That Brubaker comes back hard with a succession of punches
26:07from both wings. You see Brubaker when he lands a shot it just it just elevates him. Every time
26:13he sort of loves when he when he does good things with the gloves and he just levels up. Mitch
26:19is really in deep water now Barry. He is. This is a career defining you know fight for him right
26:25now that we're witnessing. Yeah I couldn't agree more Mark. This is career defining for
26:29Mitchell Leick. He needs to see to show us that he can go to another level.
26:34Round seven. We've got three rounds after this. It's going to be it's going to be a
26:40tough battle all the way down the line. But Mitchell Leick you know he looks a bit fatigued
26:46to me. Don't you think? I think he's uh he's probably just taking himself you know to a point
26:53where he's not been before and it's yeah it's really going to be something that will you know
26:58put him in a stronger position with his career. Good right hand there. Couldn't quite pick up
27:03why Anthony Hibbs stopped that and had a bit of a chat to Mitch Leick which is probably a welcome
27:09breather for both fighters. Mitch looking over there smiling so that tells me he's all right.
27:13Yeah just landed a very very good right hand as you said Bruce.
27:1850 just under a minute remaining. Round seven. Sweeping left there from Brubaker who just
27:24misses with the uppercut. The cut over the right eye of Brubaker. Well it's not running into his
27:29eyes. Vision is still clear as he whacks away to the body while they clinch. You know the physical
27:36is one thing. The mental is the other. So these guys the thoughts that have been going through
27:40their head is I'm tired I'm sore and it's like come on let's go. You land a shot it elevates you.
27:46It's the psychology behind it all that is you know is even part of it as much as the physical.
27:52The adrenaline you know when you land a good shot you know it gives that rush of adrenaline.
27:56And lets you know you're still in the fight. Jolting punches from both fighters late in this
28:01round. Tell you what. Another difficult round to score Baz. I was going to say it's a war
28:06and both boys look I think League maybe a little bit in front.
28:14This one in contention for a fight of the year already. Let me tell you. They both planted
28:19their feet and exchanged huge right hands at the end of the seventh. We'll be back after this.
28:35We start to head down the stretch. 8, 9 and 10 to be decided but another
28:55war like seventh round. And both fighters absolutely digging deep. Head shots, body shots.
29:02It's been a furious pace Barry and Hammer. Look it's a we've got a quality fight here.
29:07Quality championship fight. Oh look it hasn't disappointed that's all I can say.
29:13And we're going to see three more rounds of war.
29:18Can they keep up this frenetic pace? They touch gloves. Great sportsmanship this bout
29:24has been fought in great spirit over the first 21 minutes as
29:28Leak with a succession of jabs tries to get the early ascendancy in the eighth.
29:32Certainly has. Brubaker turning south for a second here. Trying to do something different
29:37perhaps. Needs to look and land a big shot. You know Barry we spoke earlier about fighter
29:42setups and the shoulder rolls and that type of style. For me personally my favorite fight,
29:49my favorite style of fighting is Leak. His setup is just as I like to see. He moves clean. He snaps
29:56out the punches. He doesn't over complicate things but his accuracy is always there. The
30:01textbook stuff and I love it from Leak. You know from his early fights he's always had that
30:06correctness about him. Yeah no he's technically very good. Hellacious left rip there from Leak
30:11at the start of that exchange and then he goes upstairs and he's having a really good few seconds
30:15here. Oh right hand from Leak as Brubaker's against the ropes and the rally in that blue corner
30:24is certainly on. Brubaker urging on the crowd but uh Brubaker's okay but there he's a tough
30:32tough cookie. Literally throws himself into the fight doesn't he? He sure does. Right above the
30:39commentary position. He's an entertainer. Oh left hook from little Leak. You can feel the power
30:46coming from the gloves of these two. Both tasting leather. He hasn't moved Brubaker as yet though.
30:52He works. Mitchell Leak looks. Stinging right hand. Oh bombs being thrown here. Rolling rolling
31:02Leak the right hand. He's hurt he's hurt. Brubaker's in trouble. A succession of right
31:07hands. He needs to show something. Something's gonna happen here. Both boys are really exhausted
31:14here. Massive round from Mitch Leak. Brubaker with a strong right hand. You know what experience from
31:20Brubaker. Got caught with two big right hands. Tied up Leak. Took a moment and threw something
31:26straight back. Bang. He knows exactly how to play the game. Yeah. Jack Brubaker. Look look Mitchell
31:31Leak's feeling it. They're both feeling the pace big time now. It's been a war. It's been a big
31:36Leak round though Barry and Hammer. Yes. Massive round for the champion. Speed, jab, accuracy from
31:44Leak. Have a look at Brubaker. Just taking a bit of a break here. Brubaker the veteran. He's eaten a lot
31:51of big right hands though. Capacity crowd as you can see here at the Melbourne Pavilion tonight.
31:56They are being entertained. Wowee. Midweek boxing. Is there anything better? What a way to spend a
32:05Wednesday night. Exactly. Bit of biffo on a Wednesday. Melbourne town. Feints for Brubaker.
32:11Sneaks that right hand over. What a great round for Mitch Leak and Jack Brubaker who doesn't
32:18take a backward step now. Bleeding from over both eyes. It's an eight week intensive camp.
32:27Pretty much teaching up from when you first put a set of gloves on to right up through to
32:32jumping in the ring in front of 2,000 people. Just achieving something in the ring. You know
32:37finishing off that eight week program and then jumping in the ring and fighting in front of
32:41you know thousands of people is a big achievement. No matter if you win or lose it's a great experience.
32:50Just two rounds to go and that was that stinging left rip
32:54from Mitch Leak which I reckon started that onslaught about a minute into the eighth.
33:00Big shots landed by Mitch Leak there but Brubaker took them all really well.
33:04He is the toughest of hombres Jack Brubaker. He's never not in a war. I think he's got that
33:10mentality just you can hit him with the best shot and he keeps coming and if you're not stuck for
33:15your job you just go man what do I got to do to get this guy out of here. You can also break an
33:19opponent. He certainly can. Brubaker was off his stool first again. We're into the penultimate
33:25round the ninth of a schedule 10 with the Australian middleweight crown on the line.
33:30Yeah how would you say it Hammer at the moment you would have to have
33:34yeah Leak's from for mine just landing the cleanest shot you know the double jabs.
33:42But you know Brubaker's been dangerous all the way through he's been in the fight all the way
33:47through. Just when you think he's hurt like in that blue corner in that last round he just tied
33:52up and then popped off again and it was away we went you know. Love the way Leak mixes up his
33:57attack he's not just a head hunter he's happy to go to the body to open up opportunities upstairs.
34:03I think he's got a good kit of punches. Mitchell Leak this is a great experience for him because
34:07he's going to another level here and he's work rates lifting here late in the fight around
34:12round nine he's putting punches together real well. He looked a bit gassed a couple of rounds
34:17earlier but he's gone past that now. I think that was his test his mental test was then and then
34:22he's gone you know what I can do this I'm in this fight still and now he's sort of kicked off from
34:26there you know. As you know mate it's a mental test to go you know go past that level where you're
34:31exhausted and to come back and lift yourself. There's that whole emotional roller coaster that you go
34:36through in a fight and fighters will understand it you know there's the psychology you're not
34:40not only fighting your opponent but you're fighting your own mentality your own mind you know
34:44your insecurities everything comes into play and if you if you don't beat the devil in your own
34:48head in the fight you aren't going to win the fight. Exactly right if you don't beat yourself
34:52what's in your head you don't win. Leick just getting the better of each exchange even if it's
34:57just marginally there was a previous exchange it was a good right at the start of it by Brubaker
35:03but then Leick just flipped him hard as he did again then and forces him back into the ropes
35:08near Brubaker's blue corner. Round nine and we've got just over a minute to go of round nine
35:14is Brubaker going to see the end of round 10 at this stage you'd have to say yes but Mitchell
35:19Leick is still a chance of finishing him if he lands three or four good clean shots.
35:25Brubaker is obviously here for the duration yes but it's a matter of how much damage do
35:31you sustain to get through the fight as well. The stiffness of that left jab from Mitch Leick
35:39although he wears a right and delivers two or three back of his own gets a little scrappy
35:45understandably as we're at the pointy end of the fight. You know when when I saw this fight
35:52announced that I knew I'd be working ringside on a gentleman I was excited genuinely and it
35:56certainly delivered. Yes. You know Barry and Bruce I'm great to be a part of this with you two guys
36:02as well here on seven plus it's an absolute honor. It's an honor to be working with the two of you
36:07guys mate I love working with both you guys we've worked together many times but all of us
36:12first time we it's us three working together I'm just trying to think it's always a pleasure anyway
36:17anyway look we've got one more round to go we've had an absolute war here
36:21Mitchell Leick's undoubtedly unofficially in front we think coming up for the tenth and final round.
36:41So
36:56Jack Brubaker's corner there working over both eyes now that big gash in the accidental headbutt
37:01over the right eye but now some damage over the left as you'd expect Hammer and Barry given it
37:06has been a brutal 27 minutes of action. Certainly has and you know unofficially I think Mark you'd
37:12agree with me Mitchell Leick's in front Brubaker needs a knockout. Yeah absolutely Leick's just
37:19had to clean up an obvious scoring and that's what it's all about you know as well yeah hitting on
37:25the outside making it obvious for the judges to score. Yeah big embrace at the start of the
37:30tenth and final round it's been fought in great spirit and they have let their hands go at a frenetic
37:37pace. Well tenth and final and I Julie would like to thank both of these warriors for uh entertaining
37:43us all and putting in a boxing showcase here tonight. Huge right hand from Mitch Leick at
37:48the start of the tenth and another one and Brubaker calls him on. Man how tough is Jack Brubaker.
37:55He's got whiskers made out of steel. Tell you what he may not win the fight but he'll certainly win
38:02bucket load of fans Brubaker. Undoubtedly he's got you know he always puts up against anybody
38:07he puts up a great fight. Slips and slides and gets on the inside. History being made here with
38:15his seven plus premier boxing team. Ellis have been here tonight in Melbourne and these guys have
38:20certainly made it the highlight event that it's turned out to be. I think Brubaker's got a cut
38:26on the left eye. Well he already did have it either the existing one or maybe a fresh one.
38:31Trickling down the left side of his face. Stiff left hand from Leick after a number of punches
38:38were scored cleanly. Small moves on the inside bringing big dividends for Mitch Leick. Oh
38:46good shot from Brubaker. He's a warrior. He's still trying to you know land that big shot.
38:51Coming up the one halfway through round 10. One minute 30 remaining.
38:57What happened he's having another chat to Mitch Leick. Not sure what the uh the reprimand was
39:02for. They touch gloves again. They both plant their feet and sit down on big right hands.
39:07Tell you what the lactic acid will be kicking through the body. Their muscles will be so
39:11you know sore and lethargic but they're pushing through mentally. The levels that
39:17most people would never understand. That's for sure. Blood streaming down the faces.
39:23Jack Brubaker from cuts on his left eye and between his eyes.
39:30Final minute Barry and Hammer. What a fight we've seen. This has been a cracker. The crowd's going
39:34nuts. Mitch Leick 45 seconds away from retaining his Australian middleweight title in his first
39:40defense. Yes for the overhand. Brubaker has put up the typical incredible performance that we
39:48expect from him. Can he get the late finish? He's throwing everything but the corner post
39:54to Jack Brubaker. Yeah. Oh not a massive right hand. Teed off Leick. Beautiful right hand from
40:02Mitch Leick. And sits down nicely on it. Jake Ellis and all the Team Ellis boys in the corner.
40:08Oh big occasion for them. Final 10 seconds. What a fight it's been. Pleasure to bring it to you on
40:16seven plus. Thrill a minute between Jack Brubaker and the champion Mitch Leick who's looking to
40:22finish with a flourish. Yes. And defend his Australian middleweight strap. There's that bell.
40:28What a standing ovation for both warriors. Have a look at that. The crowd loved it.
40:35What a great event and what a great main event. Incredible. To make a statement here tonight.
40:43Well our production team's going to do well to just narrow down some of the highlights
40:46because every round had terrific highlights in it. Beautiful shots from Mitch Leick there.
40:51And you know Brubaker hurt at times but just recovers and fires back himself.
40:56He's a warrior. It's taking you inside the ring and have a look at the punches landing close up.
41:03It's these finite movements that make all the difference. Yeah. And Mitch Leick tonight
41:09again as I said for me he's always been such a great textbook fighter. Yeah. Great setup. Does
41:14the basics. Does them so well with finesse. The step around footwork. You know those beautiful
41:19level changes. The double jabs working at speed. He really does have it all Leick and I think.
41:24Yeah and you know he's still a relative novice really to be honest with you Mark. You know
41:30I mean he's not an obvious Australian champion but his experience is getting better and better.
41:36A hard energy sapping 10 rounds.

43:21The judges decision after 10 really hard fought rounds between that man the champion Mitch Leick
43:27and the challenger Jack Brubaker. It is dueling cowboy hats but let's get up to our ring announcer
43:33James O'Shea to make this one official. All right ladies and gentlemen we'll get set to
43:39make this one official but ladies and gentlemen please first of all give both fighters a round
43:46of applause. What an incredible main event. So good was our main event. One of our great
43:54sponsors of Derrick by Jim into the ring who has said that he is going to give $5,000 to each of
43:59our main event fighters as a bonus. Give a big round of applause to Derrick by Jim. Wow what
44:06a bonus for our two fighters. Ladies and gentlemen we go to the judges scorecards.
44:14Your first judge scores them out 98 to 91. The second card reads 99 to 90 and your third card
44:2299 to 90. All to your winner by unanimous decision and still Australian middleweight champion Mitch
44:38Leick.
44:47So emphatic scorecards from our three judges there.
44:52Basically eight rounds for two, nine rounds to one with that 10-8 second round of Mitch Leick.
