00:00I told you in the intro that there are 4 ways to improve memory.
00:17The first method is to improve memory through stress management.
00:24First, let's understand how stress damages your memory.
00:32When you perceive a stressor in your mind, it can be a financial stressor, a relationship stressor, a workplace stressor or a job stressor.
00:50After that, there is an important part of the brain called the hypothalamus.
00:59The hypothalamus is a very sensitive area of the brain.
01:03When a stressor receives a message, it triggers a certain pituitary gland.
01:15The pituitary gland releases a hormone called the adrenocorticotrophic hormone or ACTH.
01:23When the hormone is released from the pituitary gland, it triggers the adrenal gland and releases the cortisol hormone.
01:33Stress is also a normal phenomenon.
01:37There are three zones of stress.
01:44The lower zone is called the boredom phase and the higher zone is called the burnout stage.
01:54The stress in the middle zone is beneficial.
01:58The cortisol hormone is released at a normal level, which improves your performance.
02:04When the stress hormone increases, you reach the burnout stage.
02:11When the stress hormone is released chronically, it has an effect on the hippocampus.
02:30The hippocampus plays an important role in memory formation.
02:36Retrieving the memory is important.
02:42The hippocampus has an atrophy.
02:48Atrophy is a medical term that shrinks.
02:53When the hippocampus shrinks, it is unable to function.
02:56If you are in constant stress, there are many chances that your memory will be weak.
03:06You may have a memory problem.
03:08Especially when you reach the later stage, you may have this problem.
03:14Stress does not cause memory issues.
03:20There are many cognitive issues related to memory that can be caused by stress.
03:25For example, you may have a focus problem.
03:28You lose focus and attention.
03:31Focus and attention play a role in memory formation.
03:36If you are not attentive, the process of memory formation becomes weak.
03:43You have to manage your stress.
03:50I know that students are in a phase where there is a lot of stress.
03:57There is academic stress, peer stress, teacher stress, parent stress.
04:03You have to adopt strategies to keep your cortisol level balanced.
04:16Sports are very important.
04:17Stress is reduced due to physical activity.
04:20You can go for meditation or relaxation therapy.
04:25If you are not able to manage stress, try to have professional help.
04:31There is a line here, kill the stress, either stress will kill you.
04:41Thank you so much.
