00:00I mentioned Luke Nickel who he actually he made the final cut of the final 11 at the Elite 11.
00:07That was just a few days ago and Luke Nickel is nice enough to join us here tonight on Locked
00:12on Canes. Now Luke you obviously performed very well and we'll talk about it but you know to see
00:19all your hard work get recognized and to make that final 11 how good did that feel?
00:25Yeah I mean it felt really good just growing up always wanting to be a part of that that special
00:30group the Elite 11 and then you know finally getting my chance to go out there and put on a
00:36show and just soak it all in while I'm there and just you know learn as much as I can. It was just
00:41super cool experience and you know it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience for sure.
00:47You know some of the things that that scouts were impressed with about you the the throwing
00:51mechanics the consistency and a lot of the instincts. Now I mentioned your hard work Luke
00:57I know you've you've worked really hard to try and put these skills together as you continue to
01:02do so because obviously this is you know you're always striving to get as close to perfection as
01:07possible but how young were you when you started training as a quarterback and working at this
01:12position at what point did that start in your life? Yeah I felt like you know as a young age
01:19I always loved the game of football and just growing up I mean I've had a brother I've had
01:24a dad that played football and just seeing them and seeing their footsteps I kind of wanted to
01:30always you know elevate my game and follow in their footsteps and just following their lead
01:36really and then you know just growing up I've always had you know a good skill set and just
01:43always being able to sharpen my tool as much as I can getting better each and every day has just
01:49been what I've been trying to do because there's always room for improvement and just growing as
01:54much as I can in every aspect of the game. Yeah we're joined here by Miami Hurricanes class of
02:002025 quarterback commit Luke Nickel and you know Luke you you also you do a lot of extra football
02:07because it seems like every weekend I see on social media hey Luke Nickel just won another
02:13seven on seven tournament right you're on Cam Newton seven on seven team you won a tournament
02:17with a team from your high school recently do you ever take a break from football?
02:24Yeah I mean I actually I feel like I get a good amount of time away from football I mean that
02:32time's not always easy though because you know I just love the game so much but it's always good
02:36to you know get some get some alone time and just time to hang out with your friends and just do
02:42things outside of the game because you know it's important to do that just you know hang out with
02:48them and spend as much time as you can really. So what was the experience of the elite 11 finals
02:54like Luke because you're you're literally you're out there with you know a couple dozen of the
03:00other top quarterbacks in the class of 2025 well what was it like being out there with so many
03:06great players? Yeah it was a really cool experience for me just being out there with the
03:11best of the best and you know the best coaches being able to learn from them soak in all the
03:17information from them and you know just basically maximize my time those three days there was what
03:25I was trying to do get as much as I can out of it you know improve my game in any way I can
03:31but it was super cool just being with those guys and you know just competing with them
03:35those three days. You've been locked in as a verbal commit to Miami for quite some time how
03:42how familiar do you feel kind of already and you still have another season of high school to play
03:47of course but how familiar do you feel with Miami's style of offense and what's going to
03:52be expected of you from Shannon Dawson once you get on campus? Yeah you know I always feel like
03:57there's gonna be a learning curve just everyone coming into college learning the playbook whether
04:03that's offense or defense but in my situation really just you know once I get once I get to
04:08Miami just spending as much time as I can with the coaching staff and you know learning the whole
04:15offense you know inside and out just knowing every single thing I can being a mastermind of that
04:21offense will be able to elevate my game just making sure I'm ready you know every aspect that
04:28I can just try to try to do my best to be ready and for the games.
