00:00Because this track you got to put it together and you're on that dance floor man. Just be silky smooth with it
00:05Don't don't fight it. Let it happen. Yeah, you mentioned a lot
00:08You say to stop and go if you lose that momentum it takes forever to get it back
00:11It takes forever to get it back and not only you're racing the racetrack
00:15You got to save your body and the motorcycle as well. We've seen a couple DNFs from here
00:19So that's why we're harping on it and all these guys know it
00:22Not only getting the body you got to make sure to bike it makes it to the end as well
00:26Well, everybody has a game plan I guess in the case of Southwick until you get punched in the mouth with sand
00:32Everybody has a plan
00:33Let's see if they can stick to it and execute a lot of the line
00:36I've said it several times only eight points between the top three in this
00:39Championship six to another number for the monster fast qualifier. Let's go racing
00:46That hunter and jet with the good starts, they've been incredible at motocross on those Hondas and
00:51Jet Lawrence the lead hunter right behind him and it's sexton there as well. Yeah, nice move from chase
00:56He was on the outside of those guys
00:58He was able to kind of square up on the inside
01:00But jet Lawrence is where Hayden Deegan wasn't exactly where he wanted to be at out front and Plessinger
01:05I believe is fourth to the two KTM guys
01:07He's got a lot of momentum and he's got a lot of speed and he's got a lot of power and he's got a lot of
01:12Plessinger I believe is fourth. So the two KTM teammates
01:16Third and fourth and we're going on a little Nicoletti. Yeah, Aaron lost the rear end and Nick Nicoletti was able to get up
01:23No, wait, that's actually March banks. Welcome back to the 26 of the 36. I think that's March banks. We're to find out in a moment
01:30No, I think that's Phil. That's Phil. Okay
01:33Yeah, Phil wants to make 36. Yep. Yeah now Jason Anderson was able to get around Aaron as well
01:38So again, Aaron slid out and he lost two positions right there
01:42Tough break from he was right behind his teammate chase Exton and look at that lead already from jet Lawrence
01:47Looks a lot like Deegan in the first moto
01:50As for Nicoletti man, this is what he's been doing all year great starts great opening laps
01:55And he's running fourth right now on the buck off
01:58FXR Club MX Yamaha jet Lawrence already starting to get away
02:01Yeah
02:02And we saw jet Lawrence pull off earlier in practice and we were thinking maybe it was his shoulder or just saving the energy
02:08But whatever it is, it's working and I think what you're gonna see just what Hayden Deegan
02:12This is that section that we were talking about
02:14He's just gonna get out front and just try to manage this race and to make it really smooth
02:18And if he hasn't showed the injury
02:20This is exactly where you want to be and not be battling with chase Exton or his brother
02:24And I look over his shoulder and he already sees an alarmingly large lead for half a lap into a moto
02:30Yeah, he looked back and he had to look back even more because there it made a mistake
02:36Perfect lap by him if you keep this up
02:41And about to be one lap in the books here Lawrence and Lawrence again sexton third
02:46I think Anderson has managed to fight his way back through see if he's in fourth
02:54Man that's a heck of a gap for one lap
02:56Yeah, I think again you get out front and you don't know the pace. I mean hunter Lawrence knows
03:01Okay, my brother's going this pace but jet Lawrence just like Hayden Deegan
03:04I think these guys get out front and they realize like oh, these guys are just letting this like they're letting the race come to him
03:11I'm just going as fast as I can or whatever and I'm just getting this gap because both motos
03:16They've been had about three seconds on both them between Hayden Deegan and jet Lawrence. The first laps look exactly the same
03:24Let's see if hunter Lawrence can close in and hunter on the 96
03:28Had sexton right next to him off the start able to hold it and
03:32That big hill turn and now starting to stretch it a little bit on sexton. Anderson has fought his way back
03:39around Nicoletti Plessiger
03:42lost those two spots a
03:45He will be six Cooper Barsha McElrath and Kulas round out the top ten
03:51Nice line by chase up the inside
03:53Now just what we saw in the 250 class chase shouldn't hopefully it doesn't let up
03:59Jet Lawrence get too far away from because we saw it in the 250 class. Tom had the pace
04:04He just was too far behind. So let's see if he can do that a seat
04:08Think we go to JT here first JT. What do you think it on the number one?
04:12Well, I was so interested to see how jet will respond
04:14We had a weekend off and we know he's been healing the shoulders been feeling a little bit better
04:19But this is really the first time since that crash that he has attacked on the first lap
04:23Remember that crash happened on the first lap at hang time where he was really trying to push and he was so full of confidence
04:30Then but ever since then it's been a very strategic approach to these races. Just manage the race
04:36Don't get out in front of your skis
04:38But it looks like he's back to form and if you've ever looked to see what confidence looks like this is it
04:43Attacking the first lap putting in your best laps early and trying to build that gap again
04:47Thanks JT Adam seen Cirillo, what are you seeing? I
04:51Think if you look at jet Lawrence's resume, I mean what he's done at his age is is pretty incredible
04:57He's won every championship there is to win and with this talk about him and his health and not sure if he's so strong
05:05Not sure if he can win this and that
05:07Sometimes that's exactly what you need to stay in and stay motivated and and come out here with something to prove
05:13You know, that's fun for guys like him
05:15Great athletes like jet so I think that's a little bit of what we're seeing. I think he's relishing the moment
05:21He's relishing the doubt per se
05:24Had to dig himself out of a hole no doubt about that Adam after the big crash at round two hang town
05:30But after that fire first lap now hunter Lawrence matching his brother. Yeah, I think hunters settled in and he got a you know
05:38Now he's getting the tow a jet but really as he was going is so fast
05:42he was able to get away from those guys and now you start slowing down and maybe it's allowing hunter to catch him up, but
05:48Overall, he's towing his brother and they're pulling away from chase X and now bottom box is March Banks
05:53Who is in his first pro moto cross race of the year coming back from two different thumb injuries?
05:59He's caught kulos the Estonian that we mentioned before this moto looks like March Banks
06:05It's in the black jersey trying to get a piece of the top ten. Yeah, I think that's my brother
06:10right behind him
06:12They're trying to go up the inside working on. Oh, oh, yeah, March Banks is already ahead of them
06:17That is actually Malcolm Stewart in the black jersey March Banks is now just ahead. Yeah
06:22Yep, so kulos back to 11 March Banks 10th, and there's Malcolm
06:27See if Malcolm funnel back to the inside
06:29He's gonna go to the outside and that line pushes away and he's gonna lose all that time now
06:34You got to work it going but just like the 250 class
06:37There's battle for days back here. And this is where you don't want to be at because you're getting your face full of ruse
06:44Let's see if he goes up the inside of these guys
06:48Kulos knew it was coming. It was coming
06:52He went right he went right to the left and now Malcolm gonna try the outside James
06:57Yeah, he's gonna try to outside but then it's gonna funnel back in now. He has an option
07:02He's Harry's gonna have to go either inside or outside
07:04So Malcolm might go to slingshot and as we broke down earlier, you got to be standing up to get there
07:09I hear he did the right thing. Let's see if he goes down there. No
07:14Great job great riding too, and he's not doing anything wrong
07:17He's just going where Malcolm wants to be at and Malcolm can't really do anything about it
07:21It's another passing opportunity
07:23But Malcolm's got to be a lot closer than he is right now to get to him
07:26I think Cullen parks in the Phoenix Honda behind Malcolm and they're going back after March Banks
07:31Oh
07:32Wait, that's a McElrath
07:35McElrath going backwards here March Banks has gotten around him. I thought they were getting back around March Banks
07:40No, March Banks went around McElrath on that yellow twisted t-suzuki Kulos goes by him as well
07:46Here goes Malcolm. Yeah, Malcolm don't get around and you're gonna see big J out on the track in a minute
07:51Don't get dad fired up. He's gonna go up the inside of him
07:55Yeah
07:57Looks like Shane something's going on struggling a little bit and kind of standing up
08:01Laboring you can tell the guys not feeling pretty good to go really far down the inside here, but Malcolm's got around
08:07Let's see if he can close down on Harry again
08:09And now the next Honda rider in order is Oh slend the rider from Sweden is actually pitting alongside the factory Honda team
08:16He's got a special connection. It's large Lindstrom as also looks to make the move here
08:21Large Lindstrom the team manager. Well, his dad good are a Swedish legend. He was the team Honda manager back in the day
08:28So he's got some connections
08:30Swedish family, they brought off the Dover gave him some support and he's running well right now up to 12
08:36JT
08:37Well, just looking at the international variety of this moto right now seven riders inside the top 20 are from a country not named
08:45America so it just speaks to the you know
08:48The wide range of riders we have and this is truly turning into an international championship
08:52Yeah, 100% this is when you come to this race and you start looking back
08:56He's like who is that number?
08:57this guy's coming up on me and Malcolm's about to figure that out right now because
09:01Looks like he's got a pretty good pace and now Malcolm's got a regroup and try to go out to Harry again
09:06Otherwise, he's gonna have a Honda on the rear end of him a seat
09:11James I don't know about you
09:13but some of the scariest moments in my career were somebody passing me and me looking at their jersey and having no idea who they
09:20are
09:23That happen to you ever yeah, it's happened to me. Okay. I got my stories, but I'm gonna keep them my story
09:30So Alvin Oslin there he is on the 290
09:33Yep, there's probably a lot of fans saying who is that guy? He's going pretty good, but he's I believe gonna race here and red
09:38bud
09:40There he is and again got the connections over there with the Lindstrom family and
09:45Up ahead of them would be March Banks. Shout out to him had a thumb injury in Supercross
09:51Then had a crash on press day at the pro motocross opener had a huge gash
09:55Right on the inside of his thumb, but probably the worst place you get cut to hold on to the handlebars
10:00So then he had to miss the first four rounds
10:02He's finally back now and running ninth
10:06Behind bar shoes also ailing a bit with a pair of knee injuries both knees hurting for Barsha running eighth
10:13This guy's so patient on the throttles
10:16They try to get on the inside of these corners and again let the bike just dripped out to that those corners those berms
10:26Alvin's going down the inside right here
10:28And that makes it tough once you go in that angle going in
10:30Into that corner because you got so much speed and you can't tell on TV
10:33but it's downhill and next thing you know, you kind of hit a 90 so that bike wants to tuck underneath you and
10:39It's this fast place here come
10:42Nicoletti Oh
10:44Justin Cooper has made the move on Nicoletti here
10:47Cooper who is I believe fastest in the second session today qualifying and
10:53Third overall making the move and now Plesinger after that early mistake looking to get Nicoletti back and he does yeah
10:59Nice move by Aaron. I don't know if his frustration Nick
11:04Right now off the track, but I wonder did he go down or or something because he was yeah, you got past
11:10But then the you can see Justin Cooper got around him and then one mistake now
11:14He's gotten passed by Barsha and it looks like now Gary March banked his
11:18He don't mess around. He'll begin pass as well
11:21Yeah, well ups and downs of this moto from Plesinger. There is March banks
11:26What has happened Plesinger losing two spots to both Club MX riders and to Barsha?
11:31That's three positions in
11:34about quarter of a lap
11:36Yeah, well, you saw him run off the racetrack and that stop-and-go as I'm talking about is it's not like they don't have the powers
11:43But yeah, he's he's pointing that vision right now. He doesn't have any vision
11:47JT yeah, exactly what you just said
11:49He's pointing in his goggles and a lot of times what can happen in there if you start sweating
11:53Water can get on the inside of your lens or possibly he's out of roll offs or a tear off there
11:57So I would assume he'll be pulling into the mechanics area that message
12:00He said was to prepare them get the goggles ready because he's gonna pull in here
12:04Try to grab goggles as quickly as possible and get back out there
12:11He's still got him on yeah, he's still got it gone
12:13So as JT said maybe his sweat on the inside or maybe sometimes that the roll-offs if he has roll-offs on they get stuck
12:20Because of the sand or he's out of tear off either way. You can see I'm not going forward
12:25So for him the best thing to do would be pulling in get some goggles and then try to go out
12:29With 18 minutes left at his race and on the right J. Dungey's mechanic with the goggles
12:34So we'll see how quickly they can do the swap. He's gonna lose a ton of spots
12:38Yeah, he's coming in
12:56That's gonna say Aaron maybe the only one out here
12:57There's any experience with it's because he used to race dry national cross-country where you always do a goggle swap
13:04But it's probably been about 10 years since even he's done that
13:07Yeah
13:07And the way he was riding it looked like there was something on the inside of his goggles not because normally these guys are just wiped
13:13They're you know wider with their hands to get some kind of vision
13:16It looked like he was riding like a you know, he couldn't see so clearly there was more going on whether it's a sweat or dirt
13:23he had to come in and
13:25All the way back to 17th place. He was battling Nicoletti for six at the beginning of that lap
13:33You know looking at the lead chase Sexton was able to
13:36Close that gap down on 100. It was actually both of those guys were six seconds behind jet Lauren
13:42So looks like now chase is starting to get that form
13:45He was the second fastest out of the top three hunter was third jet was still a little bit quicker in both of them
13:50But now you've got to wonder is chase Sexton if he has any kind of pace he can get around hunter Lawrence
13:56Maybe he can close but now as you say that hunter Lawrence's must have made a mistake
13:59I mean chase must have made a mistake and he lost that toe again. There's hunter in the blue jersey
14:05second
14:06Jet is the only rider with a 212 lap everyone else 213 or beyond but that was earlier in the moto
14:13Now jet just ran a 213 and everybody else into the 214 Sexton trying to get back in there
14:20Yeah, this is where chase has got to be better at earlier part of the races and we saw it
14:25Tom be out in the same situation and whatever it is on this trace now
14:29He's starting to jump a little bit farther
14:30But whatever it is you get that gap is really hard to close down
14:34I think a lot of that comes to is one just how hard the conditions are
14:38You know
14:39You see these guys slipping and sliding and you're just taking a big chance and jet did a phenomenal job
14:44Getting that gap now. He's riding his own race. Those guys got to do everything to attack him again
14:49You know until I really started working with you
14:51I did not realize how much of the strategy within the strategy we see in these races
14:56We'll talk more about that in a moment
14:58We want to show you first how Lawrence put himself in that position will start it with the motorsport.com
15:03Whole shot replay. Well every race so far except for one this year. It's been the Honda's out front
15:08They don't figure it out and I guarantee you when they line up on the gate
15:12They feel like they're gonna pull the whole shot and that confidence is showing so again jet Lawrence hunter Lawrence
15:17They're both out front chase Sexton was right there, but it was a big number one and 96 right behind him
15:23Now let's go into the management of it
15:25So you talked a lot about you get out front you dictate you can set your own pace and all those parts and pieces
15:31Yeah, so the way jet Lawrence rides a motorcycle
15:34He's really patient and I feel like one of the strongest suits for him and what he does
15:39As he makes a little mistake over jumping that he gets out front and when he's out front
15:44Everybody has to dictate
15:45What he's doing and it allows jet to be able to be very patient as we saw Hayden Deegan like jump really far in some
15:51Of these sections be patient slow down and the way he rides the motorcycle
15:55He stands up quite a bit when he's out front. It's like a you know a
16:00basketball team shooting threes or
16:02Offensive football team you can't outscore him what you got to do if you're chase sex and you got to be in front of jet
16:08Lawrence you got to make him have to rot
16:10Faster and kind of do what you do and I feel like it's again using that same terminology of a football team
16:16It's almost making an offensive football team play defense run the ball
16:20And I think that's the only way you can do it and when you're watching jet Lawrence out front
16:24If he's out front his riding style
16:27He's gonna be hard to beat and I feel like the only way those guys gonna beat him is make him have to push make
16:32Him not be patient because what he does very well is why he's pulling away from you
16:38And I think for him it's gonna be up to the rest of those guys JT to stop it
16:42Well, I couldn't agree more and you watch him riding right now. Yes. He's leading the race. He has a six-second lead
16:47He's turning some of the fastest laps in the racetrack
16:49But I would estimate he's riding at about 80% right now and maybe it's a little higher than that
16:54Maybe he's looking at making it look very easy, but you see how easy he's entering the corners
16:58There's no real urgency in his riding
17:00He's not taking any risks whatsoever and to your point the only way to beat him is to get him out of that comfort zone
17:06You've got to put him on a pace that he's not comfortable with just like a high point sex to pass them
17:11Look to be pulling away before he made that mistake right here
17:15Jet Lawrence could do a thousand laps at this pace. No problem. So to beat him
17:19We've got to get him out of this zone and the green just to spend a little bit more on that
17:23It's not like he's feeling like he's like art. He's not trying. He's he's trying
17:28But what makes him good is
17:30being out front and be able to slow down to hop over to the berms and hop over these bumps and if you're having
17:36To catch somebody you're not doing that you're pushing and blowing through that stuff
17:40And so I think again, they got to be in front of him to start
17:43They got to be down here if we're watching the battle for 11
17:45You got to make him be back there to have a chance to beat him
17:49And I think that's what makes Jet Lawrence so good because he's never back there
17:52He's putting himself up front and he's dictating it's gonna be hard for anybody to beat him up front
17:57Bottom box is Dylan Ferrandez starting to work forward on the Phoenix Honda. It's caught Malcolm Stewart
18:02Now that is 11th and 12th Ferrandez saying yesterday at press day
18:06It's the first time this team Phoenix Honda has really raced with this level of effort a rider of Ferrandez's caliber
18:13450 champion two years ago and racing the full pro motocross campaign. They've had some engine issues been down on power
18:19Hoping they've made some strides. That was the hope after the weekend off
18:23Yeah, I mean, I I know Dylan's out there trying in the same thing with the team, but you know
18:28You got to start a wonder
18:30with Dylan
18:32Is it becoming mental on on his side because he is a champion he wants to be out there battling and I said a few
18:37Weeks ago if you're not up there competing to win or have a shot
18:41It's hard once you won these things to be out here battling for 10th place
18:45So I know the team they're obviously learning and Dylan is phenomenal on a motorcycle and they're trying but I'm sure a little bit of
18:52This is probably the mental side of things to not being able to compete and just seems like everything else
18:57Just a little bit worse when you're in that zone as well
19:00Yeah, Southwick historically has been one of Ferrandez's best tracks went 1-3 to win the overall in the 450 class in
19:082021 and now just trying to break the top 10
19:11Yeah, when we're talking about the the fluctuation in time that one mistake
19:15Look how far Malcolm is ahead of Dylan and he made one mistake in the corner
19:20So when we're looking at the lap times and guys are right there and they go two seconds back
19:24You just saw it play out right in front of you. And that's why the times fluctuate so much
19:29Give you a monster energy racer update. We mentioned Ferrandez. He's in 12th
19:33Justin Cooper fifth and Jason Anderson fourth
19:37Anderson was running the sand track at
19:40Club MX has been stationed there for a while
19:43To get some testing in. I saw the whole Kawasaki team there the week after high point everybody
19:50ECU and mapping
19:52Crew chief Theo the suspension guys were there mechanics
19:56Testing the Kawasaki in the sand and in the East Coast terrain got Anderson up the fourth right now as Ferrandez goes back to work
20:02Yeah
20:03And a lot of reason the teams do that is because again, they try to make sure when they get here
20:08I remember always having to change different likes
20:11Cylinder heads and in the engine package because the bike will run a lot hotter here
20:15So while the whole team is going down and they're rotting sand tracks
20:18They're doing that to make sure the bike can last and at the same time they'll work on the suspension
20:24But it really comes down to it just the team itself making sure they they got the right parts a lot of these teams
20:29Have built certain bikes. I mean certain parts for this racetrack here, and they like to test it before they get out here
20:34Hey JT mentioned earlier the international battle. We have it the Swedish rider Auslan has caught the rider from Estonia
20:41Kulas, and this is for 9th and 10th. That's no joke
20:46And Auslan around the outside of the red jersey gonna try to make the pass
20:50Yeah, he looks like he had some pace when he was behind my brother and shout out to Nicoletti
20:55He's out there battling doing his thing, but I'm a I'm thinking that Auslan's gonna get around here in a little bit
21:01He's starting to move forward
21:04Yeah, I like this line right here because it gives him the option they're gonna funnel back in here
21:10Or no, is that 79? Yeah, that's Kulas right in front of him. Yep, and then Auslan right behind gotcha
21:16Yep
21:18Buried it in now
21:19He's gonna be an option to build a passes right here as we've seen most of these guys they funnel in and then now
21:24Either go inside or outside. Let's see if he can
21:27Let off the brakes to get beat him to the inside
21:30Nope, Kulas said not today son not today
21:33And now you've seen us bringing Malcolm back into this battle and Ferrandez as well
21:36So it could be a four or even five rider battle because Nicoletti not too far ahead in seventh
21:47I
21:48Just love to hear them dig it in in the sand here. Yeah
21:53If bikes are just laboring so hard, yeah, they're laboring
22:04Kulas doing a good job fending him off. Yeah, I know he's doing a great job and he's you know
22:08There's only certain parts of this racetrack that you know a guy can pass you so he just beat the two parts now
22:14He can slow down let him catch him throw a little bit of roost in his face
22:18You know, it's hard to breathe when you got a face full of roost and it's part of the game
22:23You can see his number plate. You still read it
22:25Got behind you can't read his
22:28I'll go back to that. That's what I've learned from you
22:30The last few years beam pump shows how many tricks you guys have of I know when I need to go fast
22:35And I know what I don't because he can't pass me here. I'll rush when I need to
22:38Oh, yeah, and if you ever wonder just for everybody at home if you watch these guys, you'll see somebody catch him
22:44And all of a sudden like there's certain parts where they're following each other
22:47They'll be really close when there's an opportunity to pass. You'll see the guy in front. They'll start charging. Oh right here
22:53Honestly goes down. That's exactly what you wanted to do. You knew you couldn't pass him
22:57So throw the roost get him frustrated now, you see the bike smoking, but earlier
23:02Where you can pass you go a little bit faster at him block his line in there
23:06Yeah, because it looked like Austin was gonna get him a lap ago
23:09It looked almost inevitable that that passes could come
23:12Kulas fights him off for a lap and a half and now
23:15What up to deal with him for the rest of the moto now?
23:17He doesn't have to deal with him and especially all these tracks, you know as a rider
23:20You know what parts of the racetrack that look if somebody's battling me and I don't want him to go around
23:25I got to go fast in these two or three sections everywhere else. I'm gonna slow down
23:29I'm gonna get my energy just to get back to that section to go fast again to hold them off
23:35It's a game. It's a game within the game
23:37And then if you're the rider behind like Austin was you know, he's playing that game, right?
23:42Oh, you know, he's playing it. Eventually. That's why you see guys get knocked down. They get frustrated
23:49as we go back to jet Lawrence and
23:53He might be the master of playing it that way
23:55But also how does the mind not wander when you're in a situation like this you stay completely 100% focused?
24:02Well, I think with jet there's just so many, you know again the way he rides a motorcycle
24:07I think it's easier for him to stay focused because you know, he's picking this track
24:11It's not like you're just riding around the whole track. Just he's picking certain spots. He's jumping
24:16He knows his bumps that he wants to hit. He knows a lot of things
24:20so I think for him is keeping his mind preoccupied because he's breaking this track down piece by piece and if not
24:26He'll have an incident like that JT
24:28Yeah
24:28And I think you know people often wonder why the mechanics give them lap times each and every time they come by on the pit
24:34It's exactly for that reason to keep them focused just think about the lap time and if they start to drop off a lot of time
24:39They know they're losing focus. So it gives them something to focus on keep lowering that lap times
24:44So they don't start daydreaming so they don't lose that laser focus that they need
24:51I think it's inevitable that your mind wanders out there. It happens from time to time
24:56It's really about how quick you can bring your attention back to the moment
25:01Those are the guys like jet that that don't make mistakes that know when to refocus. We're all human, right?
25:07We all can daydream the mind can wander especially and watching jet ride. It's beautiful. It looks easy
25:14So I'm sure his mind goes here and there sometimes but it's just about how quick you can bring the attention back
25:21Yeah, just to talk about that. I think the way jet routes a motorcycle. We think that it's a lot easier than what it is
25:28I mean, he's trying and if you're trying and something's hard you're focused in on it and as well every you know
25:35A few corners Jets looking back and seeing what hunter Lawrence is
25:38So it's not like he has a six-second lead and he's like, oh, I don't have no ideal
25:42He's looking back
25:43So the fact that he does that is keeping his mind focused in and driving forward because hunters still right there
25:49Once to keep it going
25:51Yeah, it could be another Lawrence one two
25:53They'd be the fourth moto this year where it was some combination of them one two
25:57Want to mention that all 31 rounds of the supermoto cross world championship
26:02You can listen live on the Sirius XM NBC Sports audio channel 85
26:07You can listen to this very broadcast as it happens every Saturday in all 31 rounds of the SMX World Championship
26:15Jet Lawrence six point nine second gap and it looks like Sexton's challenge to hunter has expired
26:22He's all alone in third than Anderson Ford
26:25Yeah, you can see jet getting caught up with these lap riders and that's why I said for him
26:30You know
26:31He's keeping an eye up on his brother because we saw you can lose two seconds in one corner out here if you get caught
26:37Behind his lappers, but now it's like he's got around nose hunter has to get around him as well
26:41And he's got a clean track in front of him. So jet to me looks a hundred percent
26:45He actually looks really comfortable more comfortable this weekend as far as his shoulder than he did last weekend
26:51A couple weekends ago. So it's like he's healing and right now. He's definitely just managing that lead
26:58All right. This is my brother going after Harry again. Oh
27:02He's going after him indeed. Yeah, it's gonna work. Yeah, big James must have stepped on that track out there
27:09You don't want to go back down to I for with him a nice move by Malcolm
27:14Keep working on him eventually you can hopefully own get him but Harry's been riding really good. Oh
27:19Malcolm a mistake. Is he gonna give it back? He does. Oh, this is fantastic
27:25Yeah, this is good. And Harry thought I think he thought he was like, all right Malcolm's done and Malcolm slides out
27:31He's like, all right now. I don't want that. I don't want that. That's good move by Malcolm stay into it a seat
27:37What you guys saw with Malcolm in that left-hand turn how he was
27:41You
27:44Is going into a turn you want to be looking up and you want to be finding
27:49finding some part of the berm where you can make most of your turn so you can be up on the top of the
27:55Knobby's and be going as straight as possible when you are on that hard base and Malcolm just got a little caught out there. Oh
28:03There's big James. There you go. I knew dad. I knew it was going to be a sighting of Bigfoot out there. There you go
28:11Is that a nod of frustration or happiness no, he's happy. Okay made the move we're good. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. No, he's still happy
28:18I mean Malcolm still fighting going so, you know big J JT
28:23So James when you would get out front, I used to watch this all the time
28:26We would go back and watch tape and try to understand what was happening
28:29Your dad would give you signs almost like we thought you wanted to steal home
28:33Like we couldn't understand there like baseball signs
28:35He would like rub down his forearm when he got out front one time. He was wet flapping his arms like a bird
28:39We could not figure out what these were and now here's my chance. I'm gonna ask you
28:43What was he telling you to do because you were just annihilating all that's doing like you needed to look like you needed any help
28:48At all. Well, if you saw that big chicken out there flapping his arms
28:52He was telling me to beat like keep loose keep loose
28:55And okay, if he was rubbing his arms like down the side, he was telling me to stay smooth
29:00So my dad had a huge part or even just just like my mechanic
29:04I used to look at my dad every you know, every lap going by because he would tell me okay
29:08Hey be smooth. We had our own little like tricks, but yeah, that's why I was saying big James
29:13He was gonna pop out on that racetrack if Malcolm wasn't moving forward. So I saw that head shake. He's good
29:19But we we had our baseball signs you you caught on to it
29:22We waited 22 years
29:25That was 2002 when you first jumped into the pro ring
29:28We waited 22 years to get the answers to those questions
29:30Yeah, and he did it every race of my career only time I didn't see him. I knew I was riding bad
29:36He was walking back to the truck. So if there was no signs to be held I was in trouble
29:41Malcolm now into the top 10. Oh
29:47Hold on to it, buddy
29:54Super motocross playoffs return September 7th get your tickets to history go to super motocross dot-com now
30:03Super motocross our three playoff rounds taking place in North Carolina, Texas and Las Vegas, Nevada. Oh
30:11Harry Kulas is staying close. Harry's not done with a mouth. We better recognize that
30:17But there's big James right there. It's just an outside of that berm. He recognizes that yeah
30:21Let's see what sign comes up because he's gonna tell him that Harry's coming
30:26This is good. And that is 11th
30:29And that is 11th
30:30Krestinov the other Estonian. It's Kulas buddy. He is in 12th and Oselin the Swedish rider who fell
30:3713th
30:39Pleszinger is climbed back up to 14th after the goggle swap
30:42Now let's update you on the points if it ends like this jet will take second of the points away from
30:48Chase Sexton, but Hunter Lawrence will continue to hold the point lead. There he is with the blue jersey
30:54Yeah, Hunter's doing exactly what he needs to do right now
30:56Maybe his brother he knew his brother was going to be really strong at this track
31:00I think Jets grew up riding in the sand. So if you had to pick I would lean towards jet and
31:06Obviously, he's getting healthy, but I think hunter has been very smart all year when he's not feeling it
31:11He stays on the podium. So for him, maybe make a couple bike changes
31:14He's right there and I don't think jet minds going down and knock down for the championship
31:20Going down to the wire with his brother as long as chase Sexton is
31:23Is behind both of those guys so hunter doing exactly what he needs to do
31:27It's got another moto. Maybe you can go one step above
31:30let's talk about the different riding styles with hunter and
31:34Jet and my theory is they both moved to Europe at the same time, but hunters almost five years older
31:39So it's a little earlier in the riding development then jet and then they started riding all those gnarly bottomless famous sand tracks in Europe
31:46Yeah, and that's what exactly what you see when I say hunter
31:49He sits down a little bit more than jet and it works on hard pack tracks. It works a lot of places
31:55I mean it works here at Southwick, but when you talk about a sand rider and saying, okay
32:00What makes a good sand rider?
32:01You look at jet because the guy who can stand up and just be very patient and both of them are I think the style fits
32:09Jet Lawrence a little bit better because he grew up in that and as you said hunter Lawrence was racing in Europe
32:15He wrote a lot of hard pack track sand tracks, you know
32:18Mud where jet was coming up and he spent a lot of his time on the sand and whatever they did is working out
32:24But hunter sits down a little bit more which overall
32:28It's working out better for both them, but jet has a little bit covered on this one on this one
32:32Yeah
32:32But I've heard you say it on your podcast that you think hunter in some ways might be more versatile when you get to the harder
32:37Tracks. Yeah, I do think so early in the year that we saw hunter
32:41I thought he got a lot more he looked a lot more comfortable on the Honda in the beginning part when they were struggling a
32:46Little bit for our setup then jet did and the reason that was because hunter once you sit down you can put your weight down
32:53on that motorcycle to make it work and because hunter had more of a
32:58Versatile of his style. He's a little bit more versatile
33:01I think he made some of the efficiencies the deficiencies of the Honda
33:05He made it work by sitting down and I think jet struggle a little bit more, but now they don't figured it out
33:10Now they're gonna have a hard time trying to beat his brother
33:12But that's just because his riding style for sure and honestly what the Honda team figured out is
33:17Go back to what they had last year
33:19They had made big changes to the bike for supercross was much better in supercross and they assumed it would carry in a motocross
33:25But they found out after the first two rounds it did not but by then they'd already ordered all those new parts for 24
33:31So they have been scrounging around to find every leftover piece from 23
33:37Get these bikes where they want them and get to the end of the year
33:40Hunter almost goes down there. Yeah, he tried breaking out of that corner a little bit earlier
33:44And again, that's you just that hard pack and how slippery it is just caught up to him
33:49But for this guy chase Sexton the tracks completely different than it was in practice
33:54So we were watching him make some changes and whether he was speeding up the rebound or doing some changes
33:58Definitely looks like chase Sexton struggling a little bit more and out of all the races
34:03Especially after hang town that second moto this is gonna be frustrating for him because he was right there with jet
34:09He started right behind those two and not only lost a tow to jet
34:13He lost a tow to hunter as well and for a KTM and chase Sexton coming off a weak break
34:19That's not what you want and that's gonna hurt chase for sure
34:24And this is gonna hurt as jet Lawrence guess what everybody
34:29It's another moto win streak in route here three in a row this would be four I
34:35Get a long way to go to where he was he had 124 straight
34:39But what's crazy you and I were talking about this yesterday?
34:42He's still only lost one of these races overall in his career on a 450. Yeah, he's raised 15 races
34:49He's won 14 of them and the one he lost was this year. It seems like he's had a hard time. I
34:55Was finally for Andis got March banks, by the way, it's up to seventh
35:00Yeah, I mean for Dylan first for sure not where you wanted to be at, but he's fighting his way up
35:05I mean we saw him go down as well
35:07So he picked the bike up and started working his way and now he's got a pretty good pace
35:11He's running basically the same lap times as jet Lawrence them about a second off jet same as hunter
35:18Nice to see Dylan out here still fighting
35:21Yeah, that actually is a pretty good comeback
35:23I mean he was way off the radar way out of the top ten early. I'm not sure exactly what spot he started in
35:31But seventh now for Ferrandez Barsha digging it out
35:35That actually looked like it whipped for style, but I think he was just saving it
35:38I don't know if you saw that he got kicked on the takeoff of that
35:42Jump, I'm just saying style points anything that he does sure
35:46Let's just say that's what I meant to do and what I mean to do is go out here and win another moto
35:51Plow him back in this points lead
35:53This championship. Yeah, it's gonna move into second at the end of this moto of course. There'll be another one in a little over an hour
36:04And
36:06They had their shot. He was definitely beat up after the crash at hang town
36:09He figured out a way at Colorado and high point to as we were saying engineer a win
36:15Maybe he didn't quite have his best stuff physically and the weekend off
36:19He might be back to the old level this afternoon although there will be a second moto that will be an even tougher test
36:27Looks good right now
36:30Jet Lawrence
36:32Closing in on four straight moto wins a championship rebuild and a big moto win at Southwick
36:45It was
36:49Hunter gonna come across six point four seconds back. Here is Sexton third and
36:55A huge gap back to the rest of the field as these three begin the breakaway
