00:00We are doing a series on memory, as I told you, to increase memory, I talked about 4 approaches.
00:17The third approach is how you can improve your memory through mind techniques.
00:29Mind techniques mean that you can memorise more if you learn things psychologically.
00:38I will share a technique with you, which is called chunking.
00:42Chunking means to make small chunks.
00:47We use this technique when you have a lot of information to memorise.
00:55For example, if you want to memorise 10 points, or if you want to memorise 14 points of Quaid-e-Azam.
01:06It has always been a problem for us that it is very difficult to memorise 14 points.
01:12In this, you can do chunking.
01:14In chunking, you can make 3-3 chunks.
01:20First, you memorise 3, then the next 3, then the next 3, and then the next 3.
01:26If you do this in chunking, you will know that you are missing a chunk.
01:34You know that there are 3 in one chunk, so it is easy to retain all 3.
01:39Basically, when there is a lot of information, the working of the mind can memorise 6-7 information quickly.
01:52So, if you chunk the long information,
01:58For example, you have information 20,
02:00If you make the information of 20 in 5 groups, it will be a favour for you.
02:06We also remember phone numbers.
02:08As you must have seen, people remember phone numbers in chunks.
02:12If you ask them in such a way, they may not be able to tell you.
02:16For example, there is a mobile number, 0300 767 910.
02:22If you ask someone to tell you in such a single way, you may not be able to remember it.
02:27You will not be able to tell them.
02:29Because your memory is in the subconscious mind.
02:35As I told you, the subconscious mind likes chunks.
02:38It takes small information more quickly.
02:41So, to memorise things well, I would suggest you to make chunks.
02:48There is another technique after chunking.
02:52The second important technique is spaced repetition.
02:58How do you use it?
03:01For example, I am introducing a student.
03:06I ask the name of the first student, I ask the name of the second student.
03:09When I go to the fourth student, I forget the name of the first student.
03:14Let's suppose there are 30 students in my class.
03:18I ask the name of the first student, the name of the second student, and so on.
03:22Once I go to the fourth student, I verify the name of the first student.
03:26This is your name.
03:28If you go to the 6th or 7th note, verify the 2nd note once.
03:35Believe me, if you go a little bit ahead and touch the previous note once again,
03:43after a little while,
03:45it means that you are giving an interval and going towards repetition.
03:50So the repetition after the interval will stay in your mind longer.
03:56And with this, I will give you one more information, one more technique,
04:01which is called Mind Mapping Technique.
04:06Now what you have to do in this?
04:08Obviously, the issue of memory occurs when you have a little more information.
04:15Whatever information you have, try to make a map.
04:20Try to make a hierarchy.
04:22Sometimes a hierarchy is being made.
04:25Suppose you can make categories.
04:29Suppose you have to remember the names of some food items.
04:33So you make a basket of fruits on one side and a basket of vegetables on the other side.
04:40This means that you can make this thing in your mind as well.
04:43It is not necessary that you write it on the page and make it.
04:46Even if you write it on the page and make it,
04:49it requires a lot of imagination.
04:51Remember one thing,
04:53learning is based on imagination.
04:57Because imagination is related to the subconscious mind.
05:01Even if you imagine something, you go into that mind.
05:07That mind caters more to visual information.
05:13Suppose you have a long text.
05:21Put that text in the map.
05:24And that map will basically remain in your mind.
05:27You can make a table of it.
05:30You will remember the table more comparatively.
05:36Because it is a structure of the table.
05:39I will make a separate video on the learning mind.
05:46The mind of memories, which we call the subconscious mind,
05:50prefers things in images.
05:55It does not prefer things in words.
05:57So if you have ever noted,
05:59if you have a structure with a word,
06:04then you remember more things.
06:07So with this, I am giving you the fourth technique.
06:10The fourth technique is associations.
06:13If you associate something with some information,
06:21then you remember that thing more.
06:25For example,
06:27you can replicate this anywhere,
06:32but I will give you a simple example.
06:34You experience it.
06:36Suppose,
06:37you go somewhere and ask someone for directions.
06:43Suppose,
06:45you go straight for a kilometer,
06:50then you go left,
06:52then you go right,
06:53and then you go left,
06:54and that is your destination.
06:56This is one way.
06:57Now, this has all the words.
07:01There is no association in this.
07:03If someone tells you a way,
07:06you go straight,
07:09and after a while,
07:11you will get a signal.
07:13It is the first signal.
07:14You have to go right from the first signal.
07:16Now you have to stay right.
07:18As soon as you see a gourmet bakery,
07:21you have to go left from there.
07:25As soon as you go a little further,
07:27there is a Shell petrol pump.
07:29With the Shell petrol pump,
07:31we have a third office.
07:33Now, look here.
07:35The signal,
07:37the bakery,
07:39the Shell pump,
07:41these are all associations.
07:43If you teach someone with associations,
07:47you will remember it more.
07:49Teachers can also do this.
07:51When you are teaching,
07:53give an example with associations.
07:57It can be a picture.
07:59For example,
08:00I will tell you a very simple example.
08:02When children are around,
08:04their subconscious mind is active.
08:09That is why when you teach ABC to a child,
08:12we call it A for Apple.
08:15The child's mind does not capture A,
08:19as much as it captures Apple.
08:23That is why,
08:24when you sit in front of me as an adult,
08:26even today you will say,
08:28A for Apple.
08:30You will remember it like this.
08:32Because you have read Apple.
08:34This is the power of the subconscious mind.
08:36This is the power of association.
08:38Even today you remember the things
08:40you read in primary school.
08:42Because you used to read with associations.
08:45All the things we have read with associations,
08:49they do not forget us.
08:51For example,
08:52listen to a story.
08:54It does not forget us.
08:55Because you have taken the image of a tortoise.
08:57You have taken the image of a rabbit.
09:00It does not leave our mind.
09:02Because it tells you that
09:04the mind that keeps memories,
09:07which we call the subconscious mind,
09:09does not give so much importance to words.
09:12It gives importance to images.
09:14So I would request you,
09:16if you want your memory to be very good,
09:21then you can use these mind techniques.
09:24In which I have told you about chunking,
09:26space repetition,
09:28mind mapping,
09:31and use of associations.
09:34I will give you one last bonus tip.
09:38If you want to remember something important,
09:41close your eyes and focus on it.
09:45This thing will not forget me.
09:50It will remember you.
09:52Thank you so much.
