00:08:59have a lovely home you live here with your husband no I am single it's my parents house
00:09:07well um it's actually it's my mom's house my uh my dad died last year sorry to hear that I I did
00:09:15see the sign on your farm out front the Raymond pick your own bouquet flower farm yeah that's our
00:09:22um our family business I I know it doesn't look like much right now but hopefully in a few weeks
00:09:29it'll be a cornucopia of color out there oh yeah the weather it's either a gardener's greatest
00:09:35ally or a worst enemy let me guess pink peonies and maybe a row of purple hyacinths to complement
00:09:43them and oh I can imagine a wide array of tulips perfect Easter flower and well maybe a hybrid or
00:09:51two when they cross pollinate okay Lori most people don't know the difference between a daisy
00:09:57and a daffodil what's your secret my whole life has been the business of flowers dear so you're a
00:10:04florist was for 40 years I'm officially retired now it's just a hobby I don't even compete in
00:10:11the annual Easter flower arranging competition anymore but you have have you have you ever won
00:10:16oh I haven't but I placed second last year in my highest finish so um I'm sitting with floral
00:10:22royalty is what you're saying certainly not the queen but perhaps in her royal court
00:10:30um I can go get my tractor and we can get you back on the road oh
00:10:33oh I certainly appreciate that thank you so much
00:10:40uh Amanda is there anything that I can do to repay you for your help with my car
00:10:48well can you pull a miracle and melt the ice out there you really need a bloom huh
00:10:52you know the flower business we make most of our money during certain seasons and
00:10:57with the Easter bloom being so far behind well sadly my alter ego is mother nature but
00:11:03what what about that Easter flower arranging competition I mean prize is twenty thousand
00:11:09dollars wow I mean that would be enough to get us through the season
00:11:17except there's just one tiny huge problem I'm a farmer not a florist I mean that's why we have
00:11:24our customers pick their own bouquets well that's where I come in I mean I know six weeks is not a
00:11:29lot of time but I can teach you what you need to compete if you're willing to learn the cost
00:11:35of flowers oh no no I can handle it and we can always practice with silk flowers I mean think
00:11:42I mean think about it we might even dethrone queen Constance Hughes
00:11:49Constance yeah she's won 10 years in a row oh and uh come on just take my number here
00:12:03there you go
00:12:03oh this is a very generous offer and I'm sure it'd be fun to learn but
00:12:15I couldn't compete I'd be going against people with years of experience
00:12:21thank you but I'll just have to find some other way to keep us afloat okay
00:12:27okay call me if you change your mind I will come on let's go get your car yes please
00:12:39no I understand you're just doing your job thank you hey is everything okay that was the bank
00:12:48Amanda our last two years of sales just aren't enough to give them confidence to approve the loan
00:12:57but that was our Hail Mary to get caught up
00:13:08I have to do it do what the statewide Easter flower arranging competition the first prize
00:13:15is twenty thousand dollars it's at least enough to keep us afloat until the bloom comes flower
00:13:21arranging is this a skill that you've been hiding from me hiding from everyone including myself
00:13:30but I met a florist yesterday and she's retired but she's competed before
00:13:35and she said she'd teach me your dad would love to hear that I have to at least try
00:13:42maybe our last hope well a little bit of hope is all we need
00:13:51Amanda I have to ask what made you change your mind about the competition
00:13:59our business loan application got denied so winning the competition prize money
00:14:07it feels like maybe the farm's last hope
00:14:11then let's not waste any time take a look at your blank canvas
00:14:19oh I know that look the I have no idea where to begin look
00:14:24yeah that one let's just have fun to start and we'll see what we're working with
00:14:29uh so peonies and ranunculus iris and go to a classic got some roses yeah you do know all the
00:14:41names of the flowers and how they grow but I I want to see you actually create something I think
00:14:46that my creative side is still hibernating for winter it's a good thing there's no pressure
00:14:52well I know that look the I have no idea where to begin I do know that my creative
00:14:58side is still hibernating for winter it's a good thing there's no pressure
00:15:03come on just have fun okay you asked for it
00:15:09Um, wrong with roses.
00:15:22I call it a thorn amidst roses.
00:15:27Mm-hmm.
00:15:28It's rough, I know.
00:15:31But I am ready and willing to do whatever it takes.
00:15:35That's the spirit.
00:15:36Don't be so hard on yourself, you got a lot to learn.
00:15:38There are five principles to floral design.
00:15:41You master those, you've got a chance to win.
00:15:43They are harmony, contrast, purpose, balance, and...
00:15:47Oh, I'm gonna keep the last one a secret.
00:15:50A secret?
00:15:51Well, I mean, don't I need all five to win the competition?
00:15:55A secret for now, at least.
00:15:57I mean, it's something that you can only learn
00:15:59after you've succeeded at the first four,
00:16:01but let's get on with it.
00:16:04No, the first principle is harmony.
00:16:07Harmony?
00:16:08Yeah.
00:16:10We're going on a field trip for this one.
00:16:12Come on, let's take a walk.
00:16:14Okay.
00:16:21Lesson of waits.
00:16:22Inside?
00:16:24Is everything okay?
00:16:27I...
00:16:29I haven't been back inside since my dad's funeral,
00:16:32and that was over a year ago.
00:16:35So it brings back a lot.
00:16:39A lot.
00:16:40Hey, Mom.
00:16:41Oh, Derek.
00:16:42Hey.
00:16:43Perfect timing.
00:16:44Meet Amanda Raymond.
00:16:45She's the flower protege I was telling you about.
00:16:49We've met, Mr. Lavender Latte.
00:16:53Mm-hmm.
00:16:54It's good to see you, minus the name tag.
00:16:58I'm Derek, your new pastor.
00:17:01It's a pleasure.
00:17:02Well, I don't want to get in the way of flower training.
00:17:04You know, I live for choir practice myself, so.
00:17:08La, la, la.
00:17:09Oh.
00:17:10As you can hear, I need all the help I can get.
00:17:13We're on our way there as well.
00:17:15All right, I'll see you inside.
00:17:18Um, only, of course, you're ready.
00:17:25Yeah.
00:17:33I just need a moment.
00:17:35Take your time.
00:17:46♪♪♪
00:17:56Thank you.
00:17:57Just thank you.
00:17:59Thank you.
00:18:00Just thank you.
00:18:02Pink was Sonny's favorite color.
00:18:05Yeah.
00:18:06♪♪♪
00:18:16Laurie, I, I'm, I just can't.
00:18:19♪♪♪
00:18:34I know, I'm, I'm ruining the lesson.
00:18:35I...
00:18:36No, no, don't feel bad for one sec.
00:18:39You know, it's not one of the five principles,
00:18:41but the key to any successful arranger
00:18:43is the ability to adapt.
00:18:44It's not, not every arrangement's gonna go
00:18:47exactly as you want it to.
00:18:50Amanda, everything okay?
00:18:52Yeah, I...
00:18:55I'm just not ready to go back in there, Pastor.
00:18:58Please, it's only past around Sundays.
00:19:00It's Derek.
00:19:02Don't be so hard on yourself.
00:19:04If you're not ready, it's on your time, okay?
00:19:07And I'd be happy to open the door for you
00:19:08if and when that time comes.
00:19:11I appreciate it.
00:19:13It's, um, it's very chivalrous.
00:19:17Well, I was raised well.
00:19:20I'll let you two get to it.
00:19:22Hope to see you again.
00:19:23♪♪♪♪
00:19:30This is like an antique.
00:19:31Well, it's very retro.
00:19:33Now, for your lesson,
00:19:35I want you to pay special attention
00:19:37to each person's solo.
00:19:40♪♪♪♪
00:19:43Soprano.
00:19:46Alto.
00:19:49Tenor.
00:19:51Bass.
00:19:54Right, okay, I'm following.
00:19:57Here's the best part.
00:19:58♪♪♪♪
00:20:02The harmony.
00:20:04Yes.
00:20:05So, I think...
00:20:10we can agree that individually,
00:20:14these flowers are lovely, right?
00:20:17Right.
00:20:17Now, I want you to close your eyes.
00:20:20Close your eyes.
00:20:21And I want you to imagine
00:20:23that the quartet is singing.
00:20:25♪♪♪♪
00:20:34Voila!
00:20:37How did you...?
00:20:39Your first lesson, grasshopper.
00:20:42I'm more of a ladybug person.
00:20:45Noted.
00:20:47See, the key is to look for ways
00:20:50for the flowers to complement one another.
00:20:54Now, you give it a try, ladybug.
00:21:00Okay.
00:21:03So, as you can see,
00:21:04we've substantially upped our offer,
00:21:06really taking into consideration
00:21:08the value and acreage of the land.
00:21:10Tom!
00:21:12We've told you before,
00:21:13and we will tell you again.
00:21:15It's not for sale.
00:21:16Hi, Amanda.
00:21:17Your father was a good friend of mine,
00:21:18and I'm trying to help you and your mom
00:21:20by providing another alternative.
00:21:24Is that a letter from the mortgage company?
00:21:27We're getting more and more behind.
00:21:30And without the business loan,
00:21:32it's a notice of foreclosure.
00:21:34Again, I don't want to be in this position,
00:21:36but I'd like to give you the option
00:21:38to earn something substantial and fair
00:21:40based on what you've built,
00:21:42as opposed to other options.
00:21:46We still have time, Tom.
00:21:47And you're right.
00:21:49You and Craig were close,
00:21:51so you'd know that he would...
00:21:52Decline my offer.
00:21:54Respectfully.
00:21:57I'm rooting for you.
00:21:58Reach out to me before you hear from the bank again.
00:22:04You know where to find me.
00:22:11Foreclosure?
00:22:14How did this happen?
00:22:15No reserves.
00:22:16And bad weather.
00:22:18And your dad was the flower whisperer.
00:22:20I should have put back here when dad asked me to.
00:22:23Maybe then I would know more about the business and...
00:22:26Listen to me.
00:22:28This is not your fault.
00:22:30Have faith that things will turn around.
00:22:32Why would God do this to us?
00:22:34After everything we went through with dad,
00:22:36and Frost, and now foreclosure?
00:22:39God doesn't work like that, Amanda.
00:22:44I'll tell you what.
00:22:45I'll get more hours at the accounting firm.
00:22:48And I'll keep baking.
00:22:49And I'll give you time to practice
00:22:51so you can win that competition.
00:22:55How'd it go today?
00:22:57Yeah, um...
00:22:59Sorry, but um...
00:23:02I wouldn't count on winning the competition.
00:23:10God wants us to be joyful.
00:23:14But that doesn't mean we have to be happy all the time.
00:23:17There will be times in our lives of struggle.
00:23:21Of loss.
00:23:23But even when there are tears rolling down your cheeks,
00:23:26there can still be joy in your heart.
00:23:29Ultimately, I want you all to remember that
00:23:31during the Easter season.
00:23:33Joy can be steadfast in sorrow,
00:23:38and triumphant in tribulation.
00:23:41Amen?
00:23:42Amen.
00:23:44Amen.
00:23:44Amen.
00:23:46James, it's a pleasure.
00:23:49Thanks for being here. Good to see you.
00:23:51Sweetheart.
00:23:52Oh, sweetheart. Great.
00:23:53Ah, thank you.
00:23:55Papa, thank you.
00:23:57Wonderful sermon today, D.
00:24:00Or should I say, Pastor D.
00:24:02Samuel Stevens, in the flesh.
00:24:04It's good to see you, my friend.
00:24:05Don't tell me you came all this way just to hear me preach.
00:24:07I know you're busy now, but hear me out.
00:24:10I'm starting a new venture that could be a really exciting
00:24:13opportunity for you.
00:24:14A way to connect your two passions.
00:24:16Okay.
00:24:17All right, well, we should find time to chat.
00:24:19Catch up. We'll talk soon.
00:24:21Good seeing you.
00:24:22You too.
00:24:25Pastor?
00:24:28It's so sunny.
00:24:29Okay, you get a hall pass.
00:24:31Lavender latte.
00:24:32Just the way you like it.
00:24:33And what did I do to deserve this?
00:24:36Token of my appreciation for your very generous tip the
00:24:40other day.
00:24:41But I don't want to keep you from the congregation.
00:24:43Please, my congregation's too busy gobbling up your mama's
00:24:46banana bread.
00:24:47So, I've got an hour until my next service.
00:24:51Do you care for a walk?
00:24:55Sure.
00:25:05So, how are you liking town so far?
00:25:07I love it.
00:25:08Although for me, it's a bit cold.
00:25:11Yeah, my parents grew up in Vermont, so they're used to it.
00:25:14But I was raised mostly in the South.
00:25:17You know, come to think of it, people here are like the
00:25:20weather there, warm.
00:25:23Your mom said that you are a bit of an outdoorsy type.
00:25:27That's my mom.
00:25:28Loves talking about her son.
00:25:31But she's right, I do love being outside.
00:25:34It's my happy place.
00:25:36She also mentioned four-wheeling.
00:25:40Did she?
00:25:42And axe throwing.
00:25:45Of course she did.
00:25:45Mountain biking.
00:25:47What else?
00:25:48Skydiving.
00:25:48That's actually a lot of fun.
00:25:52If I met you today, I never would have guessed.
00:25:56Is it the clean-shaven, tailored suit jacket, polished
00:26:00dress shoe thing?
00:26:01It's not your typical mudding outfit.
00:26:05Can't say I've met too many pastors who like axe
00:26:08throwing and skydiving.
00:26:10Well, if you can't tell, it means I'm doing a good job.
00:26:13What does that mean?
00:26:15I'm new to this town, so I don't want people, you know,
00:26:20knowing about my extreme adventure side just yet.
00:26:24You think that they'd really care what you do for fun when
00:26:27you're not working?
00:26:28They have a lot of trust in me.
00:26:30And being a pastor is a big responsibility.
00:26:32I don't want people thinking that I'm reckless and
00:26:34irresponsible during my downtime.
00:26:36I hope you can understand.
00:26:39Can we just keep this between us?
00:26:42Seriously?
00:26:44Seriously.
00:26:45Uh, sure.
00:26:49Only if you tell me more about skydiving.
00:26:53I never prayed so hard in my life.
00:27:01Amanda, it's 6 in the morning.
00:27:03What are you doing?
00:27:04I couldn't sleep and wanted to start prepping things before
00:27:07heading to Lori's later today.
00:27:09Well, let me help.
00:27:14Saw you got to meet her son.
00:27:17Mom, it's not like that.
00:27:19He's the pastor.
00:27:21And I don't know, we're just in two different places.
00:27:27You know, when I met your father at the farmer's market,
00:27:30we were both searching for the perfect bouquet.
00:27:32I both found it exactly the same time.
00:27:35And he insisted on buying it.
00:27:38And I let him.
00:27:40Only to have him purchase it and give it to me.
00:27:43But while your father was a man who was incredibly firm in his
00:27:47faith, he was also a man who was always willing to meet me
00:27:51wherever I was in my faith journey.
00:27:54Wherever I was in my faith journey.
00:27:57And I just met Derek.
00:27:59I don't know that much about him.
00:28:01Well, and I'm sure he has a lot to learn about you, too.
00:28:05Just do yourself a favor.
00:28:06Don't let your own fears get in the way.
00:28:15You were always dad's ladybug.
00:28:19The ladybugs are returning.
00:28:21There's a slight bit of hope that the ground
00:28:23will soften soon.
00:28:27Well, a slight bit of hope is all we need.
00:28:41Amanda, are all of these table arrangements yours?
00:28:45Yeah, I'm practicing for a flower arranging competition.
00:28:49Why are you using fake flowers?
00:28:51Well, the frost and I, uh, don't have the budget for a
00:28:55fresh one, so I've just been using fake ones to practice.
00:28:58Practicing with fake flowers?
00:28:59That just won't do.
00:29:00Please, let me donate to your flower fund.
00:29:02And I'll take all of your mom's cookies, too.
00:29:05No, no, you can't.
00:29:07It's too generous.
00:29:09Of course I can.
00:29:10Consider it an investment in you and your talent.
00:29:14My reward comes in the beautiful arrangements I get to see
00:29:16from you here and at church.
00:29:20Thank you, Gladys.
00:29:32Okay, as much as I would love to take a break and go shopping,
00:29:36shouldn't we be focusing on flowers?
00:29:39Ladybug, you have much to learn.
00:29:41Lori, right on time.
00:29:43Amanda, so good to see you.
00:29:46I am so excited that you came in today.
00:29:48Our spring line just came out, and let me tell you, it is amazing.
00:29:52Feels like you should be focusing more on pushing scarves and
00:29:55jackets with the current weather.
00:29:57Well, you know what?
00:29:58If you think spring, then it will come.
00:30:01But?
00:30:02What do you say we try on some outfits?
00:30:03Yes.
00:30:04Amanda, I want you to pick out an outfit.
00:30:07Any outfit?
00:30:08Whatever moves you.
00:30:19Very cute, bright.
00:30:22Oh, it's bright.
00:30:23No, no, no.
00:30:24What do you think?
00:30:26It's lovely, but, you know, follow me.
00:30:40There you go.
00:30:44Yes.
00:30:46Oh, yes.
00:30:51Angelic.
00:30:52Yes.
00:30:59Okay.
00:31:04Try something else.
00:31:12Please, twirl, twirl.
00:31:15Oh.
00:31:18Oh, yeah, baby.
00:31:28So what seems like a fun fashion show is actually a valuable lesson in floral design,
00:31:33and you're going to learn that very soon.
00:31:42Come on.
00:31:45Come on.
00:31:48So is there a reason you're avoiding the Constance?
00:31:55Constance and I, well, we used to be best friends.
00:31:59You used to be?
00:32:00Yeah.
00:32:01We worked in the same florist shop for years.
00:32:04Why, she had such an eye for design.
00:32:07There was so much laughter.
00:32:09We worked so many hours in that shop, creating arrangements for every occasion.
00:32:14It's missing something.
00:32:16Something bright.
00:32:18And yellow.
00:32:21A sunflower.
00:32:24There was a signature to all our designs.
00:32:26It was a single sunflower.
00:32:29I like to think that it represented the brightness of our friendship.
00:32:33Until, um, circumstances changed that forever.
00:32:39You see, we had a plan.
00:32:43We were going to open our own floral shop.
00:32:46And then I, then I met Don, fell in love, got engaged.
00:32:53He relocated for work, and I had to make a choice.
00:32:58Follow my fiancé, or keep my promise to my best friend.
00:33:05And it broke Constance's heart.
00:33:09She stopped talking to me, and I did the same.
00:33:11And there was no coming back from it.
00:33:14I'm sorry to hear that.
00:33:15You can imagine how tense it is when we see each other every year at the competition.
00:33:19And now, thanks to my son, we're practically neighbors.
00:33:24Why haven't you ever tried to reconcile?
00:33:26I think we're both just too proud to forgive.
00:33:35So, take a look at this first outfit.
00:33:37You see how the black skirt really makes the red top stand out even more?
00:33:42Yeah, it pops.
00:33:44Yeah, it doesn't have to be just color.
00:33:45I mean, look at this one with the free-flowing skirt and the fitted top.
00:33:49So, shapes.
00:33:51And, and the stripes here, with the solid color.
00:33:55Patterns.
00:33:56Yes, right, you're learning.
00:33:58The second principle is contrast.
00:34:00How contrasted are you?
00:34:03How contrasting colors, patterns, shapes, textures can all make things stand out even more.
00:34:10Now, look, I made this one earlier.
00:34:14It's not terribly exciting, is it?
00:34:16Use a boost.
00:34:18Yeah, I think so.
00:34:21Okay.
00:34:30So, what you're saying is that contrasting things can come together to create something that is beautiful.
00:34:40Exactly.
00:34:42Kind of like you and Constance.
00:34:45You.
00:34:47You caught me in my own lesson.
00:34:50Maybe you have something to learn, too.
00:34:57I think it's too late for that.
00:35:01But you know what? I am going to go make us some lunch.
00:35:04You're going to practice contrasting arrangements.
00:35:06And then I'm going to see what you have when I get back.
00:35:10Okay.
00:35:12Okay.
00:35:21Hey.
00:35:23Oh, hi.
00:35:24Are you in the floral zone, or can I say a quick hello?
00:35:27I think I would have to be skilled to be in the zone.
00:35:31So, come on in.
00:35:34So, I have to ask.
00:35:36Which one of these flowers is your favorite?
00:35:41Uh, favorite flower.
00:35:43That's like picking a favorite child.
00:35:46I mean, I guess I would have to say the hydrangeas.
00:35:51Oh.
00:35:52Or, maybe on second thought, carnations.
00:35:54Or, no, maybe roses.
00:35:56I don't know. It's too difficult to do.
00:35:59I love seeing how passionate you are about them.
00:36:04Well, flower protege, I'll leave you to your craft.
00:36:09But I do have one very important question.
00:36:19Will you accept this rose?
00:36:28Well, after careful consideration,
00:36:34I will gladly accept this rose.
00:36:38My heart pounded for a second there.
00:36:43I have another question for you.
00:37:02Hi.
00:37:03Is this because of you, Pastor?
00:37:07It's your daughter.
00:37:15All right, everyone. Right this way. Don't be shy.
00:37:21Sorry.
00:37:34So, what's up?
00:37:35Like I said Sunday, I'm starting a new venture.
00:37:37It's a new mountain retreats program.
00:37:39We're doing week-long spiritual retreats
00:37:41for young men up in the Shenandoah Valley.
00:37:44It's a great experience for our retreatants
00:37:46to be in nature and pray.
00:37:48I've actively been looking
00:37:51for a spiritual leader to guide them.
00:37:54But then it hit me.
00:37:56You're the perfect guy for the job.
00:37:58God, the mountains,
00:38:00it has Derek Matthews written all over it.
00:38:04Sammy, you know I would do just about anything for you.
00:38:07I mean, I wouldn't be here right now
00:38:09if it wasn't for you.
00:38:11It's just...
00:38:13I know relocation is inconvenient
00:38:15given you just moved here,
00:38:17but this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
00:38:19Come on, don't you miss the mountains?
00:38:21More than anything.
00:38:23But I...
00:38:26I don't rock climb anymore.
00:38:29That's not the only thing this is about.
00:38:33Your story is powerful.
00:38:35The agony, the tears.
00:38:37I want to be able to use your story
00:38:39to draw others closer to God.
00:38:46Please really think on it.
00:38:48Our first retreat starts shortly after Easter, so...
00:38:51So, you need answers, too?
00:38:55A new concoction?
00:38:57Why not?
00:38:59I want to see what your creative side's been brewing up.
00:39:01Vanilla.
00:39:03Solid.
00:39:05Ooh, cardamom.
00:39:07Okay, I know that you, Amanda,
00:39:09are still kind of a coffee novice,
00:39:11but I just...
00:39:13Let me let you in on a little industry secret.
00:39:15You never combine vanilla with cardamom.
00:39:17They're just...
00:39:19They're just...
00:39:21They're just...
00:39:24They're totally different.
00:39:26Opposite flavor profiles.
00:39:28They don't work together.
00:39:30Okay, don't think.
00:39:32Just experience it.
00:39:34Yes.
00:39:36It's just that the sweetness of the vanilla...
00:39:40Hm.
00:39:42Contrasts perfectly with the spice
00:39:44and complexity of the cardamom.
00:39:46You're a genius. What?
00:39:48No, just a good student.
00:39:50We have to put this on the regular menu, like, right now.
00:39:52Maybe I'll have a ladybug latte.
00:39:56Ooh, two pumps extra handsome.
00:39:58Incoming.
00:40:00Mr. Lavender Latte.
00:40:02Ooh.
00:40:04Hello. Hi.
00:40:06Good morning, Amanda, Effie.
00:40:08I'll do my usual please and thank you.
00:40:10Oh, you know what? Actually, you should try
00:40:12Amanda's new creation,
00:40:14the ladybug latte, Mr. Laven-pastor.
00:40:16Right.
00:40:18Sure, ladybug latte.
00:40:21It sounds very unique.
00:40:23It's Amanda's creation. I'll try it.
00:40:25Mm.
00:40:27Mm, that is...
00:40:29That is divine.
00:40:31Well, thank you. It's delicious.
00:40:33Oh, um, Amanda, great shift today.
00:40:35You should go home.
00:40:37But don't I...
00:40:39No, no, no, no. Actually, we're out of your mom's cookies,
00:40:41so I'm gonna need you to make another batch of those.
00:40:45Uh, yes.
00:40:47Ah, cookies. Mm-hmm.
00:40:50It would be so much easier
00:40:52if there were two pairs of hands
00:40:54helping you do that.
00:40:56I have to stay here, though,
00:40:58so I just wonder if there's anyone else
00:41:00who could help you.
00:41:02Mm-hmm.
00:41:04Oh, um, yeah, I mean,
00:41:06the whole reason I came in today
00:41:08was to get a little break
00:41:10from my Sunday preparations.
00:41:12I'd be happy to lend a stirring hand.
00:41:14Of course, if you don't mind.
00:41:16No, she doesn't mind.
00:41:19Have you done this before?
00:41:21What?
00:41:23Have you done this before?
00:41:25Oh, um...
00:41:27Have you done this before?
00:41:29Is it that easy to tell?
00:41:31It's just a little.
00:41:33My mom normally takes charge in the kitchen.
00:41:35I just kind of follow her lead.
00:41:37Yeah, I never would have guessed that.
00:41:39Mm-hmm.
00:41:41Uh, so, uh,
00:41:43how did you get into the business of God?
00:41:45Ah, I see you're changing the subject now, huh?
00:41:48Oh, just, you know,
00:41:50redirecting away from this flowery fiasco.
00:41:52I'm just, um,
00:41:54I was just kind of curious.
00:41:56You know, to tell you the truth,
00:41:58I never thought I'd be a preacher or a pastor.
00:42:00I, um, I went to business school
00:42:02of all places,
00:42:04quickly found out the corporate world was not for me,
00:42:06so I decided to follow
00:42:08my passion for the great outdoors
00:42:10and teach rock climbing.
00:42:12I loved it. For years.
00:42:14But, um...
00:42:16In one event,
00:42:18I changed my life.
00:42:20I fell.
00:42:2260 feet.
00:42:24I, uh,
00:42:26cracked my vertebrae in multiple places.
00:42:28I had five surgeries.
00:42:30Doctor said I'd never walk again.
00:42:32Eric,
00:42:34I'm so sorry to hear that.
00:42:36Yeah.
00:42:38Yeah, that time
00:42:40in the hospital
00:42:42was like my desert.
00:42:45I didn't have much to turn to.
00:42:47But then I met
00:42:49Samuel Stevens.
00:42:51He was, uh, my occupational therapist.
00:42:53He not only taught me how to walk again,
00:42:55but he taught me about God.
00:42:57He saved my life.
00:42:59I'd do
00:43:01just about anything for him.
00:43:03He, uh, he gave me his granddaddy's Bible.
00:43:05I started reading and haven't put down since.
00:43:07That book,
00:43:09it gave me hope.
00:43:11Hope turned into healing
00:43:14and before I know it,
00:43:16I was walking again.
00:43:18Wow, I mean, that's
00:43:20an amazing story.
00:43:22Yeah.
00:43:24But do you ever
00:43:26wonder how you would
00:43:28feel if you were never healed?
00:43:32Of course I did.
00:43:34But I'm a firm believer
00:43:36in faith.
00:43:38You see,
00:43:40things happen for a reason.
00:43:43Even if you can't
00:43:45see it in the moment.
00:43:47Faith, yeah, that's a
00:43:49that's a hard one.
00:43:51Yeah, it is.
00:43:53Especially
00:43:55when things aren't going your way.
00:43:57Kind of like now?
00:43:59Yeah.
00:44:03Care to share?
00:44:05It's just, uh,
00:44:07me and a big pile of dough.
00:44:10Um,
00:44:12so
00:44:14I've been
00:44:16struggling a lot with that because
00:44:18every year my dad
00:44:20would pray for a bountiful
00:44:22Easter harvest and
00:44:24every year it
00:44:26seemed that his prayers were answered.
00:44:30So why did he
00:44:32of all people have a heart
00:44:34attack?
00:44:36When he died, I
00:44:38came home to put my mom
00:44:40on the farm.
00:44:42And after his funeral, I just
00:44:44I stopped praying.
00:44:46I stopped
00:44:48going to church.
00:44:50And then
00:44:52this year of
00:44:54all years when we
00:44:56needed our biggest
00:44:58Easter bloom yet,
00:45:00we've had the worst winter
00:45:02in decades.
00:45:04So am I supposed to trust that's just a coincidence?
00:45:07Or is that a punishment?
00:45:09I don't think God's waiting for us
00:45:11to get out of line just so he can reprimand us.
00:45:13It's not punishment.
00:45:15Look,
00:45:17I like to believe that
00:45:19God, he loves us just as much
00:45:21in good times as bad.
00:45:23Maybe during hard
00:45:25times he just wanted us to get a little closer to him.
00:45:27Comfort.
00:45:29Support.
00:45:31Love.
00:45:33God loves us always.
00:45:36I mean,
00:45:38you're a pastor so you have to say that, right?
00:45:40Technically.
00:45:42I am.
00:45:44But I still
00:45:46make mistakes.
00:45:48Also,
00:45:50I'm supposed to take care
00:45:52of people and
00:45:54right now,
00:45:56I'm getting this flower.
00:46:00There.
00:46:03There.
00:46:13So, these are
00:46:15winners from previous years
00:46:17and then there's
00:46:19mine.
00:46:21Well,
00:46:23there's still time till Easter.
00:46:25Oh,
00:46:29good timing.
00:46:32Good morning, Ladybug.
00:46:34Can you please tell me that you have another lesson ready
00:46:36because I still don't feel like I'm getting it.
00:46:38Patience makes perfect.
00:46:40It's time for your third principle.
00:46:42Purpose.
00:46:44Now, we've been working on floral arrangements
00:46:46but it's important that
00:46:48every design says something on a more
00:46:50deeper personal level.
00:46:52You have to find inspiration
00:46:54outside the flowers to put into the flowers.
00:46:56Okay, I'm
00:46:58following.
00:47:00The church is hosting an Easter basket raffle
00:47:02tomorrow evening at Parish Hall
00:47:04to raise money for the local food bank.
00:47:06Church members and non-church members
00:47:08are creating and donating individualized
00:47:10baskets.
00:47:12Now, the items in these baskets,
00:47:14they all mean something very personal to their curators.
00:47:16So,
00:47:18you want me to arrange an
00:47:20Easter basket, but how is that
00:47:22supposed to make me a better floral arranger?
00:47:26Lori?
00:47:29Sorry, dear.
00:47:33Not every lesson reveals itself right away.
00:47:37Okay, I will
00:47:39do my best.
00:47:41You always do. I'll see you tomorrow.
00:47:53Any ideas on where I'd get some inspiration
00:47:55for an Easter basket?
00:47:58I just might.
00:48:04Oh, here's a good one.
00:48:06I used to love it when Dad would push me around
00:48:08in the wheelbarrow.
00:48:10And you always came in needing a bath.
00:48:16Remember that Christmas?
00:48:18That's probably the best Christmas ever.
00:48:20You know, I still use those pruning shears.
00:48:23Feeling inspired?
00:48:27I think I've got an idea.
00:48:31Oh, thanks so much
00:48:33for coming. Don't forget your raffle tickets.
00:48:37So, what do you have?
00:48:39I did a
00:48:41My First Garden basket.
00:48:43I got something like this
00:48:45many, many moons ago,
00:48:47and it really meant a lot to me.
00:48:49It gave me a sense of independence
00:48:52and purpose, so hopefully it'll do the same
00:48:54for someone else.
00:48:56You, Ladybug, have aced the assignment.
00:48:58When you have a special connection to your arrangements,
00:49:00it's going to show in the final product.
00:49:06Grace,
00:49:08can I have your help, please?
00:49:10Sure.
00:49:14Well, well, well, look at that.
00:49:16Garden basket.
00:49:18Where's the mulch?
00:49:20Where's yours?
00:49:22Uh, it's a faith-based
00:49:24basket
00:49:26complete with mustard seeds.
00:49:28Very on-brand.
00:49:30But why don't you do something that's,
00:49:32you know, like a rock-climbing
00:49:34basket with some ropes,
00:49:36carabiners...
00:49:38I know, I know, I can't control everything,
00:49:40but one thing I can control is how people in the church see me.
00:49:44Maybe there's something important
00:49:46about sharing all sides of yourself.
00:49:50It's a little more complicated
00:49:52than that.
00:49:54But of course,
00:49:56I'm here to meet you where you're at.
00:49:58I'm sorry, are you coming
00:50:00for my job?
00:50:02I'll stick to farming.
00:50:04For now.
00:50:06Alright, well, for now, I should
00:50:08go emcee the event.
00:50:20Alright, and now
00:50:22for all the green thumbs in the church,
00:50:24we have a basket
00:50:26donated by the
00:50:28wonderful Amanda Raymond.
00:50:30A beautiful starter set for
00:50:32the next great gardener out there.
00:50:34Would you look at all those tickets?
00:50:36Alright.
00:50:38And
00:50:40the lucky winner is
00:50:422842.
00:50:442842.
00:50:4628...
00:50:49Well, there we go.
00:50:51Constance Hughes.
00:50:53Constance Hughes, everyone.
00:50:55Thank you, Constance.
00:50:57You enjoy. Okay, everyone, I think that wraps up
00:50:59our event for today.
00:51:01Thank you all for coming out.
00:51:09Hey.
00:51:11Look over there.
00:51:13This is for you.
00:51:15Really?
00:51:18You're welcome.
00:51:20Hey, look at that.
00:51:22Uh-huh.
00:51:24That right there.
00:51:26The power of God's love.
00:51:28I, um,
00:51:30I do have to get home
00:51:32and practice, but, uh,
00:51:34I was wondering if I could
00:51:36show you something first.
00:51:38Yeah.
00:51:40Yeah, of course.
00:51:48Okay.
00:51:54And voila.
00:51:56Wow.
00:51:58You got good secrets.
00:52:02Wow.
00:52:04Look at those stars.
00:52:06God's freckles.
00:52:08That's what my mom used to say.
00:52:12Can I ask you something?
00:52:14Sure, anything.
00:52:17I haven't been to church in
00:52:19a year, and
00:52:21you're a pastor.
00:52:25What do you see in me?
00:52:27So much.
00:52:29I don't look at someone
00:52:31and wonder how often
00:52:33they're going to church or
00:52:35praying every day.
00:52:37The size of someone's faith,
00:52:39that can change as life changes.
00:52:41But
00:52:43the size of someone's heart,
00:52:45I see.
00:52:47I see that in you.
00:52:51The way you love your family,
00:52:53your farm,
00:52:55those flowers.
00:52:59And I might be
00:53:01losing all that soon.
00:53:05I know the stress of all this must be a lot,
00:53:07but I have faith.
00:53:11I see that in you, too.
00:53:13You do?
00:53:15I do.
00:53:19I'm praying for you.
00:53:21Be patient with yourself.
00:53:23That's my
00:53:25sermon for tomorrow.
00:53:27The fruit of patience.
00:53:29Now that's a tough one.
00:53:31Yeah?
00:53:33It is.
00:53:35But it's worth it.
00:53:37It's worth it.
00:53:45You probably have some flowers
00:53:47that need to be arranged.
00:53:49Yes.
00:53:51We should probably get going.
00:53:53Thank you
00:53:55for bringing me here.
00:53:57Yeah.
00:53:59Okay.
00:54:03Patience.
00:54:07Patience.
00:54:11Alright. Everything's set.
00:54:13Amanda!
00:54:15Hi, Lori.
00:54:17I remember doing these eight races
00:54:19back in the day.
00:54:21This is your fourth principal. Balance.
00:54:23Oh!
00:54:25Alright, kids.
00:54:27Oh, and Amanda.
00:54:29Welcome.
00:54:31The first race is a practice race.
00:54:33Okay? Time to perfect your strategy.
00:54:35Don't worry. It's a hard roll that you just pick it back up and keep going. All right, come to the starting line on
00:54:40your marks
00:54:42Get set
00:54:44Go
00:54:48You got it go go go
00:54:53That's it, that's it Timmy go go go. Yes
00:54:58Great effort
00:55:00Great practice round. Okay, the real race starts in a few minutes. Do you stretches?
00:55:04How did I used to be so good at this as a kid?
00:55:06Think of it like this
00:55:08Look at your floral design and you have an imaginary axis going right down the middle of it and you can distribute flowers on both
00:55:14Sides. Well think of it the same way with the race
00:55:18Center the egg on the spoon on that same axis
00:55:21Center on the axis to create some balance
00:55:25so
00:55:26feeling confident
00:55:28About as confident as I can be after one attempt. Well good cuz I'm racing too. Oh
00:55:36Gotta make a friendly wager. I'm listening. Well, if you win, I'll make you lunch
00:55:43If I win you have to listen to my Sunday sermon
00:55:49You know what
00:55:50Hey, you're on. All right, line up in the starting line first one to the finish
00:55:56Wings and get ready because this one's gonna be a lot faster than last one. Are you ready?
00:56:02on your mark
00:56:03Get set
00:56:05Go. Oh
00:56:07Gosh don't drop it. Oh
00:56:10I'm not I'm a pastor. I mean never cheat
00:56:14Oh
00:56:18Good job guys
00:56:23Good work Wow, you really got me. I
00:56:28Don't think I've ever seen somebody look so happy to lose a bet. Well losing means I get to take you to lunch
00:56:36Well ladybug those are the four principles that I can teach you
00:56:41Harmony contrast purpose and balance, but there's still one left master four and earn the fifth though
00:56:48That one's in here. My dear you you have to discover it
00:56:51And in the meantime, you need to do the three P's of an expert floral arranger
00:56:56the
00:56:57three P's
00:56:59practice practice practice
00:57:07All right
00:57:09Almost there
00:57:17It's incredible
00:57:27So this is what I wanted to show you
00:57:32There's snowdrops I had no idea what they're called it just thought they're pretty
00:57:40They're perfect
00:57:43Snowdrops can grow in adverse conditions like frost, but they also tend to be the first flowers to bloom in spring
00:57:51hmm, they
00:57:53Kind of remind me of you
00:57:59Thank you for taking me here, oh we're not done yet. Nope. We just getting started
00:58:10So
00:58:12The other day at the raffle you were talking about how?
00:58:17It's complicated your image and how the church saw you
00:58:22What did you mean by that?
00:58:24Yeah
00:58:26when I told you about my accident the other day I
00:58:31Wasn't able to tell you the whole story
00:58:34you see
00:58:36when I fell I
00:58:38Lost my footing
00:58:40And one of my students
00:58:43He was tethered to me. He fell even further than I did and
00:58:50He wasn't as lucky
00:58:53He didn't make it no he did thank God he did
00:59:00Just
00:59:03He's in a wheelchair now
00:59:08That day goes by I don't think about that poor kid blame myself I
00:59:15Can't even bring myself to rock climb again
00:59:20Sorry
00:59:24You know many ways I feel like moving out here it was just my attempt to
00:59:29Get away from the memory of it all I
00:59:33Feel like such a hypocrite sometimes I'm asking people to
00:59:38Find joy in their sorrow and here I am running from my own
00:59:45We all have chapters of our lives that we wish we could rewrite
00:59:52My dad would say without tests there could be no testimony
00:59:59Being open and vulnerable
01:00:03Shows your humanity
01:00:06It gives people hope I
01:00:10Really like that
01:00:13Thank you
01:00:36I
01:00:39Have you decided your great word will reach so many young people. I know I want to help and
01:00:47You more than anyone know about my adventurous side what better way then
01:00:52There's no way around this relocation thing
01:00:54Unfortunately not given the need to be near the mountains
01:00:58But think of all the upside
01:01:01Too good of opportunity to pass up isn't it
01:01:06You
01:01:10Well it's a pleasure Samuel's always it's good to see you take care friend you do
01:01:16You
01:01:33Amanda
01:01:37Amanda
01:01:46You
01:01:50So
01:01:57You got this
01:02:04Good morning, Amanda
01:02:07I'm afraid I had a bit of a fall carrying groceries this morning at the hospital now getting some x-rays. Don't worry
01:02:13I'll be fine keep practicing. I believe in you ladybug
01:02:18Really is this part of your master plan
01:02:27Here's the good news
01:02:31You are the creator of your own garden
01:02:34Yeah, there might be a weed here or there those you just pull out
01:02:39We're supposed to be there in the first place
01:02:43But with what's left
01:02:45Why not water that with love
01:02:48Let the light shine down on that
01:02:51It'll grow into a life. That is beautiful
01:02:56You're right, thanks dad I needed that
01:03:01You
01:03:09Hi Amanda you and Derek you just missed crossing paths, oh my
01:03:16You did these
01:03:19This morning
01:03:21Well ladybug. I think you are ready to go win a competition
01:03:25Competition
01:03:27Well, there's still one missing piece, but I think I know what that final lesson is
01:03:33You do
01:03:35True beauty comes from the heart. So the key to a winning arrangement has to be
01:03:41love
01:03:45Oh
01:03:47the final principle of love a
01:03:51Winning floral arrangement is filled with the love that you put into making it
01:03:56Oh
01:03:58Amanda I
01:04:00Very likely won't be on my feet in time for the competition, but I promise you I am gonna be there in spirit
01:04:07Thank you, but that really needs a lot
01:04:11So
01:04:15What's going on with you and Derek
01:04:19You know when when someone shows you who they are
01:04:23Just believe them not just the bad traits, but the good ones, too
01:04:31Forgive him
01:04:37It sounds like you could all use a little more harmony in our lives
01:04:44It's all right

01:11:26Oh, he left big day tomorrow
01:11:32Lori I just wanted to say thank you for teaching me the five principles. I I
01:11:39Realized that they're all things that I've been missing in my own life. You've given me a
01:11:46Renewed sense of purpose on Easter. That's the most important lesson of all
01:11:56You
01:12:00Congratulations, it's really beautiful
01:12:03Thank you. We're having an Easter brunch at the farm tomorrow
01:12:08And we wanted to invite you. It's sort of a final send-off

01:12:21We'll see
01:12:25Thank you for the sunflower
01:12:28You're welcome
01:12:31Happy Easter to both of you. Happy Easter Easter
01:12:47That warm weather on an Easter Sunday doesn't get much better than that
01:12:51It's just wonderful to see the best version of my daughter back
01:12:55joyful
01:12:56and hopeful
01:12:59You're my mom you have to say that
01:13:18That did so many of these for other people and we never did one for him
01:13:23Thank you for organizing this Oh wasn't just me
01:13:29It wasn't no
01:13:33Pastor Derek called me and asked if it was okay
01:13:52I'm gonna go get our seats Amanda pastor
01:14:09On this Easter Sunday, there is just one more fruit of the Holy Spirit left to talk about
01:14:19Love
01:14:22Today it's about a resurrection and in that resurrection
01:14:28love
01:14:30Wins, you see God
01:14:32Loves all of us after all we are made in his image
01:14:42And yet I yeah, I
01:14:46Realized I haven't been completely open about my own journey
01:14:53I
01:14:56Got places people in our lives for a reason
01:14:59And someone very special my own life taught me the importance of being who God created me to be
01:15:12Before God's path led me here. I
01:15:17Was involved in a terrible rock climbing accident
01:15:21It was a moment that irrevocably changed several lives mine included
01:15:26And though I was lucky enough to have forgiveness from those around me. I
01:15:31was unable
01:15:33To find it in my heart
01:15:36To forgive myself
01:15:40But today in the spirit of the resurrection
01:15:46I forgive
01:15:49Myself
01:15:54And I'm committed to embracing who he created me to be
01:15:58Including my love for rock climbing gift from God
01:16:03You see our relationship with God is rooted in love and forgiveness
01:16:09And just as God forgives us we too must learn to forgive each other and
01:16:15Ourselves
01:16:18After all forgiveness is the purest expression of love
01:16:26So on this Easter Sunday, let us walk this path of love together
01:16:45I
01:17:00Get waking up early
01:17:07Hey
01:17:09Happy Easter happy Easter
01:17:12Listen I uh, I just want to let you know how much it meant to me
01:17:17Seeing your face at church this morning. It really warmed my heart
01:17:21And uh, congratulations
01:17:24By the way on yesterday
01:17:26Thank you. I am
01:17:29Couldn't save the farm but um
01:17:32It did my best. I'm proud of you and
01:17:36I'm proud of you for showing the church your authentic self
01:17:41I
01:17:44Am um, I'm gonna miss you
01:17:47Miss me. Yeah, aren't you taking the job?
01:17:52Turn it down
01:17:54Why because there's something here
01:17:59something special
01:18:01with you
01:18:04With us and I feel like it's just begun and I
01:18:09I can't wait to see where it goes
01:18:12Grows or blooms. Okay, I'll stop that is of course if
01:18:19If you're open to it
01:18:23Constance Constance you made it. I did come inside and give you a tour
01:18:33Come on thank you
01:18:39I
01:18:44Have to do it. Yes
01:18:47Thank You Loretta, and I just have to say I'm so sorry
01:18:52Please forgive me
01:18:55We both played an equal part Constance, so I ask of you the same thing
01:19:09I have an announcement. Mm-hmm
01:19:16This is such a beautiful farm
01:19:18run by a beautiful family and
01:19:21Amanda you are the most talented young farmer. Well now farmer and florist that I've ever seen and
01:19:30I might have won first place in the eyes of the judges, but you won first place in my eyes
01:19:39And I would love nothing more than to pass the prize money to you
01:19:52I don't say you don't have to say anything. You deserved it. I
01:19:58Just ask that you name the sunflower section on the farm after me and Laurie
01:20:06It would it would be an honor
01:20:10Thank you welcome, thank you so so much
01:20:18What incredible timing so this
01:20:22$20,000 it it would be enough to tide us over until the bloom comes in and I
01:20:27Was thinking that in order for us not to be in this position again
01:20:33How would you feel about the Raymond family farm?
