00:00A year ago, I didn't even think this was possible.
00:04Please welcome the five members of the 2024 Women's Artistic Gymnastics Olympic Team.
00:15Suni Lee!
00:17Suni Lee is headed to Paris for the 2024 Olympics.
00:31The women who made the team were named Sunday evening following two days of women's competition at the U.S. Olympic team trials.
00:38Suni was visibly emotional as she walked out, and during the post-interview, she broke down in tears.
00:44I am with the five women that will be heading to Paris, who have earned a spot on Team USA.
00:51We have to start with the hometown hero, Suni Lee.
00:58Suni, only you know what you've been through in the past few years.
01:04How have you persevered and earned another chance to represent this country?
01:09Well, I was just reminded of my goals every day and constantly surrounded by people who never let me give up.
01:16And I'm so thankful because a year ago, I didn't even think this was possible.
01:40Yeah, I didn't think this was possible.
01:43So I'm so grateful.
01:45And all of these amazing ladies are absolutely incredible.
01:49So I can't wait to be in Paris.
01:55It's been a tough year for the 21-year-old.
01:57She was diagnosed with a rare incurable kidney disease in 2023.
02:01After the diagnosis, Lee shocked fans when she decided to retire from her college gymnastics career.
02:07While she stepped away from competing with Auburn University, she always expressed a desire to be in Paris in 2024.
02:14She spoke with Access Hollywood earlier this year about the journey.
02:18Right now, dealing with the kidney disease, I think the goal is to just make it there.
02:22It's really discouraging when the doctors are like, oh, we don't know if you're ever going to be able to do it again.
02:27But, you know, I don't listen when people tell me stuff.
02:30So I'm just like, I'm just do my thing.
02:32But obviously, I take it seriously.
02:34It appears prioritizing her health and modifying her training to accommodate her condition is leading her to her second straight games.
02:41And she'll compete once again with Simone Biles, who she's previously revealed is her favorite Olympian of all time.
02:51Simone Biles, the GOAT.
02:52She's just such an inspiration.
02:54She's so down to earth and somebody that you can really count on.
02:57Watch the 2024 Paris Olympics starting July 26th on NBC and Peacock.
