Hughes MP Jenny Ware speaks in Parliament about the threatened closure of Woronora RSL and Community Club
Transcript
00:00I rise today to speak about some of the issues affecting my local community, those in Hughes.
00:06First, nestled down on the banks of the Warranora River, known by the 2,200 locals
00:13down here as the Wani, completely ringed by bushland, is the suburb or village
00:20better known as Warranora, the community hub of which is Warranora RSL Club.
00:26But this club is currently under threat of closure. I met with the board over the weekend
00:33and have been contacted by many Warranora residents. The RSL Club is an integral part
00:39of our local community. From hosting Anzac Day and Remembrance Day services,
00:44it is a venue for community meetings, an emergency evacuation point and also hosts
00:50many various groups, including our local Yooka-Laylee group.
00:55It is hoped that this important venue can continue to operate into the future.
01:01I have said to the Warranora locals and I said to the club directors that I will continue to
01:06advocate for this club to save this important local icon.
