00:00The richest man now in the history of the NBA. His name is Jason Tatum. Five-year deal worth
00:09314 million dollars. When the extension kicks in that's nearly 63 million dollars per year.
00:1662.8 to be exact. That is the richest contract we have ever seen in the NBA.
00:23DRS last offseason his teammate in the NBA Finals and Eastern Conference Finals MVP award winner
00:29Jalen Brown made headlines despite the struggles in the postseason for the Seas getting a huge
00:35offseason extension. Five years worth 304 million. A little bit of financial maneuvering there.
00:41It never actually hit its peak of 304 but still one of the richest contracts in the history of the NBA.
00:47Jason Tatum surpasses Brown's number from a year ago. Again, that is the highest paid player
00:54in the history of the Association and his name is Jason Tatum.
00:58But again, it's wild man. You're taking you see we take a look at NFL teams.
01:02I like a 53-man roster. You got to pay a lot of guys including the quarterback here,
01:05but they don't make as much money obviously per man as NBA players do.
01:09But when you take a look at the Boston Celtics at this point, and I know it's probably not a correlation
01:13like heavy sellers getting out of control because you've made so much money on your investment
01:17for the Celtics talking about the ownership group since 2002 and that money is going to be so big
01:21from the TV contracts, which is why these salaries are elevated.
01:24These salaries just don't go up because we said they go up despite revenues, right?
01:28The revenues have to correlate with the salaries. But when you take a look at the roster,
01:32you know, five or six guys making up like 750 to 850 million dollars worth of contracts
01:38over the life of those players here. It's kind of amazing to look at but if there was a team
01:42that you know, you should be paying that money to it's the Boston Celtics.
01:45They achieved success last year winning that championship.
01:48You do know you have great young players. You want to take care of those
01:51because what's going to happen when you say with Jason Tatum?
01:54Wow, he makes that much money wait till five years when guys are making 75 80 and 95 million dollars a year.
02:01You'll figure it's a bargain. It's the same way. We take a look at the quarterbacks in the NFL.
02:05That guy's not worth that money. No, he is because he's coming up for a contract at a time
02:09when the money is really good and you just stack chips on top of chips at that point here,
02:13but I have no fault here. If you're hating that Jason did that's way overpay.
02:17It's not it's just what the salary cap is the Celtics can afford it.
02:21They'll be right back in the mix as favorites next year to win it all take care of your players
02:25who take care of your organization. That's what the Celtics are doing.
