00:00In fact, I should like to see it soon. Before our child come.
00:03Now?
00:04Mm.
00:04Welcome to Miss Mojo, and today we're looking at our favourite Bridgerton book scenes
00:08that wrongly ended up on the cutting room floor.
00:11I am simply enjoying the view of my ravishing wife, and soon-to-be mother of my child.
00:17Mm.
00:19Number 10. Daphne Advises Colin
00:21In Romancing Mr Bridgerton, Colin's first port of call when he starts deciphering his feelings for Penelope is Daphne.
00:28What are you both doing here?
00:29Did not think I would see you until tomorrow.
00:31Your mother called us in early.
00:33Thought you might want some marital advice.
00:36Colin instead talks to Anthony and Kate, and though their advice works,
00:40it's also very vague considering he doesn't bother telling them what's actually wrong.
00:45What is going on with you and Penelope?
00:47All is well between us.
00:49The smell of fermented fruit emanating from your person would indicate otherwise.
00:53But in the books, that's not what Colin is grappling with.
00:56He's conflicted because he thinks love should be instantaneous.
01:00Like a bolt of lightning.
01:01And that's not how his love for Penelope has grown.
01:04Daphne is on hand to be his confidant.
01:06While in the show, Phoebe Dinover did not return for Season 3,
01:10though we can't blame her.
01:12I do not wish to unburden myself to you two with your perfect marriage.
01:16You think our marriage is perfect?
01:17Is it not?
01:18Number 9. Colin's Journals
01:20Now, we did, of course, read some of Colin's journals in the show,
01:24but book readers know that this whole scene is very different.
01:27Not only does he cut his hand with a letter opener rather than a shard of glass,
01:30but the content of the entry Penelope reads is actually about Europe's picturesque beaches,
01:36not the many women Colin seduced in Paris.
01:39In those moments alone, as my fingers trace freckles from cheek to collarbone.
01:44We also see more of his writing in the books,
01:46as he presents Pen with long passages about his travels in Scotland,
01:50which would have been great to include.
01:53Were you reading that?
01:54No, I did not mean to.
01:55You did not mean to pick up my journal and read it?
01:57And the name of his book is different too.
01:59Colin's first book is called An Englishman in Italy.
02:03While in the show, they named it Travelling With Myself.
02:06It is better than I expected.
02:08Are you old enough to read that?
02:10Number 8. Michaela Falling For Francesca
02:13Like Julia Quinn herself, we're all for the gender flipping of Michael to Michaela,
02:18which is sure to add more layers to the Bridgerton universe
02:21and make it even more meaningful to underrepresented groups.
02:24It gives me great pleasure to introduce...
02:27Michaela Sterling!
02:29But it is a little odd that in the only scene that they've had together,
02:33it appeared to be Francesca who fell head over heels.
02:36Every sort of detail John has spoken about me is a lie.
02:40The truth is power.
02:42Admittedly, we're not seeing things from Michaela's point of view,
02:45but in the books, Michael falls for Francesca as soon as he sees her,
02:49which happens to be at her wedding to John.
02:51And you must be?
02:56I, um...
02:58Well, I'm Francesca Bridgerton Kilmartin.
03:02Michaela is not in attendance at the wedding,
03:05with the genderbend reveal coming at the very end of the finale,
03:08but it would have been nice to see Michaela's feelings blossoming first.
03:12Number 7. Felicity Featherington
03:15If we use our minds to read, there may not be enough wits left for the baby.
03:18Mama must have read a great deal when she was pregnant with you then.
03:21Now, this isn't a scene, but an entire character,
03:24who has never existed in the show.
03:26Readers know that there is a fourth Featherington daughter, the youngest, Felicity,
03:31and that she's a lot more palatable than Philippa and Prudence,
03:35and more popular in the ton than Penelope.
03:37This is how I hear of my daughter's engagement?
03:41You hide out in your room all day,
03:44and you let me read about it in Whistledown.
03:47But there's one great Felicity scene,
03:49where Colin announces to the Featherington household
03:51that he wants to marry Portia's daughter.
03:53Excuse me.
03:54Mr. Bridgerton is here, Marv.
03:56Mr. Bridgerton, what an unexpected delight.
03:58I will not be staying long.
04:00Despite the fact that he's just arrived at the house with Penelope,
04:02Portia assumes he means Felicity,
04:05and it takes a while for him to persuade her that he is desperate to marry Pen,
04:08and doesn't care about Felicity,
04:10who's about the same age as Hyacinth.
04:13And were you not so narrowly concerned over your own standing,
04:16you might see that Penelope is the most eligible amongst you.
04:20Number six, the sofa scene.
04:22I know it does not look like much now,
04:24but once we lay out some of our furnishings and decorations...
04:29It's true that Pollen do have a steamy scene on a sofa in the show,
04:33but this is an amalgam of two separate sex scenes in the book.
04:37In the book version of the sofa scene, they don't go all the way,
04:40though Colin desperately wants to and knows Penelope will let him.
04:44I will always stand up for you.
04:48Because I love you.
04:50They stop themselves though, and later consummate their relationship in Colin's room,
04:54in a bed.
04:55But with many fans feeling like there weren't enough racy scenes in season three,
04:59we can't see the logic in combining these two scenes into one,
05:02when surely people would be more happy to see both of them.
05:05You must tell me to stop, I do not wish for this.
05:08I do not wish for you to stop.
05:10But Nicola Coughlan had said there's no truth to the rumours
05:13about there being extra deleted Pollen scenes.
05:16Do I look a mess?
05:19Yes, but you are my mess.
05:25You make it sound so easy.
05:27Nothing ever rattles you, does it?
05:30Oh, I believe your mother would have quite a few things to say about that.
05:34While we saw a lot of Anthony's trauma over his father's death,
05:37and he does believe that he shouldn't fall in love
05:39because he doesn't want to subject anybody else to the kind of grief Violet went through,
05:43it goes even deeper in the books.
05:45Help!
05:47What happened?
05:48I don't know, I don't know, I don't know.
05:50Is it a bean? A bean, I think.
05:54In the books, Anthony is convinced that he's the victim of some sort of curse,
05:58and that he's not going to live beyond the age of 38,
06:01the age Edmund was when he dies.
06:03I'm so sorry that it was you who was with your father that day, Orion.
06:09Sorry for everything that happened in the days that followed.
06:13He just can't perceive outliving his father,
06:15and finds it hard to come to terms with the fact that he's A, in love with Kate,
06:19and B, not actually destined to die in his 30s.
06:22And indeed, he lives far beyond 38.
06:25And I would undoubtedly feel the same pain I felt all over again if I had to,
06:30because real, true love is worth it.
06:34Number four, Lady Danbury's bounty.
06:36Take a seat, and enjoy this momentous day with me.
06:40What is it that we are celebrating?
06:44The demise of Lady Whistledown.
06:46Queen Charlotte is not a character in the books whatsoever,
06:49and even Lady Danbury is nowhere near as essential,
06:52though we don't want to watch Bridgerton without them.
06:54Oh, Lady Danbury. We are going to have so much fun.
06:59Lady Danbury does play a vital role in book four, though,
07:03because she's the one who puts the bounty on Lady Whistledown's head,
07:06not the Queen, as in the show.
07:08Dearest members of my most esteemed ton,
07:11I hereby declare that whoever brings legitimate evidence
07:14of Lady Whistledown's identity to the palace
07:17shall receive a £5,000 reward.
07:20It makes sense that the Queen would place the bounty
07:22since she's so involved with the Whistledown mystery,
07:25but it's a shame to see Lady Danbury sidelined
07:27in one of the few books where she's integral to the plot.
07:31She also says she believes Penelope is Lady Whistledown much earlier,
07:35instead of saying this only after Pen has revealed herself.
07:38There is only one person who loves the Bridgertons more than I.
07:44You knew it was me?
07:46I suspect it.
07:47Number three, Simon's stutter.
07:49Why is he not saying anything?
07:51He's four years old, he should be able to speak.
07:54He is quite advanced in his letters.
07:56Like Collins' journals, Simon's stutter does appear in the show as well,
07:59we see a lot of flashbacks about his childhood
08:02and how he learned to manage his stammer,
08:04though it does re-emerge one or two times
08:06when he's particularly stressed or upset.
08:08What did you do?
08:11It's much more present in the books though,
08:13even in his adult life,
08:14and is one of the reasons the Duke chooses to isolate himself from society.
08:18Let us hear it, boy.
08:20Give me a word, a grunt.
08:23Talk to me, damn you!
08:25He's so self-conscious of his stammer
08:27that he grows extremely antisocial and enigmatic,
08:30while in the show, he's antisocial because he's a notorious rake
08:33with no interest in the marriage mart.
08:36Do... not...
08:41What is he doing?
08:44It would be nice to see more of his stutter
08:46and showing it affecting him into adult life.
08:49Number two, Anthony and Kate's wedding.
08:51While we did almost get to see a wedding in season two,
08:54we still feel short-changed that we missed the Cantoney wedding.
08:57You cannot imagine how charming our town in India is.
09:01It has been so long since I have ridden there.
09:04I should like to see it.
09:06This is because in the books, Kate and Anthony are made to get married
09:10after they're caught in a compromising position
09:13when Anthony tries to suck the venom from Kate's bee sting.
09:16We're not too sore that that scene was changed,
09:19but it does mean that Anthony goes ahead with his courtship of Edwina,
09:23getting all the way to the altar until she dramatically discovers the truth.
09:27Our child will always be a Bridgerton.
09:33But I should like them to know that they are a Sharma as well.
09:36These changes ultimately served the story better,
09:39but we still wanted to see the wedding.
09:41After all, we got to see Daphne and Simon's wedding and Pollen's,
09:45and those were much more fraught.
09:47I, Colin Bridgerton, take thee, Penelope Featherington,
09:54to be my wedded wife.

10:121. Colin and Penelope first meet
10:15Do you remember when we first met?
10:17I was riding my horse, minding my own business,
10:19when I was assaulted by a devilishly yellow head covering.
10:23It was not my fault, the wind blew it clean off my head.
10:25One of the most glaring omissions in Bridgerton
10:27is the scene where Colin and Penelope first meet.
10:30In Book 4, the prologue gives us a flashback of Colin falling off his horse
10:34after Penelope's bonnet blows into his face.
10:37A wind or not, you certainly seemed pleased when I landed in the mud.
10:40I apologise.
10:42And you were so very charming about it, teasing me mercilessly in fact.
10:46In the show, he merely recounts this as an anecdote at the market
10:50and at their engagement party,
10:52making fans even more annoyed that it was referenced but never shown.
10:56After all, the previous two seasons did show us flashbacks of key events,
11:01Simon's vow to his father and Edmund Bridgerton's death,
11:04so it's baffling that this scene wasn't included.
11:06Most people, when they fall off a horse, are counseled to get back on it again.
11:11I say, stay down.
11:13For in the mud, you may happen to be blessed with your future bride.
11:16It's a slap in the face considering what little screen time Colin had together.
11:20Let us know in the comments whether you want the Colin cut of Bridgerton Season 3.
11:25Your writing...
11:29is very good.
11:33Do you agree with our picks?
