Labour has held its constituency of Sheffield Hallam in a hard-fought contest in the general election. Olivia Blake successfully held off a challenge by Sheffield City Council LibDem leader Shaffaq Mohammed, winning 23,875 votes.

02:30Well, I just want to start by thanking everyone who has been involved in the smooth running of this election
02:39and to the returning officers, Kate Jones and all her team
02:43who have been overseeing both the election and the camps and the smooth running of all the elements of it.
02:49We know the long hours and sacrifice of time and energy it takes
02:55so I pay tribute to all the candidates in this election
02:58who aspired to serve our community and represent Sheffield Hallam in Westminster.
03:04In our Labour Party, we know that we are stronger when we work together, collectively.
03:10So to the hundreds of people who tirelessly knocked on doors, delivered leaflets
03:16and volunteered in countless ways to deliver this result, thank you.
03:20I am humbled by your dedication and discipline and care for the people in our community.
03:28I also want to thank my agent in Skype now and all my core campaign team.
03:34But my final thanks go to all those who looked around themselves after 14 years of Conservative vandalism
03:42who saw the damage the Conservative Party has done and said now is the time for change.
03:49Today, that change has come.
03:52I know this is the first time many of you have voted for Labour in Sheffield Hallam
03:57and I know that many people in the constituency will have put their mark in a different box.
04:02To you, I say it again.
04:04I am determined to be an MP for all in our community
04:07because the issues we face are huge and affect all of us.
04:11Our public services crumbling, the cost of living soaring and our NHS on life support.
04:18All while the climate and nature emergency deepens
04:21and the populist riot seeks to exploit fear and create scapegoats.
04:25We face enormous challenges.
04:27Today, this vote is for the new politics focused on addressing them.
04:32Fighting for economic security, cheaper bills, safer streets, the NHS at back home speeds,
04:40better opportunities for our children and young people and action to protect our environment.
04:46Together, we have worked to build a movement of change across our community in Sheffield Hallam.
