00:00Hi, I'm Mark Dunford and I'm here with today's Sussex World Daily Bulletin on Friday July the 5th
00:062024 and it's a momentous day. We're all waking up to the general election results so this is
00:12going to be a general election special. The exit polls when it came out at 10pm last night
00:18predicted a political earthquake in Sussex and it was almost spot on. There were two seats
00:25where they didn't quite get right. They predicted Conservative holds for Horsham and Chichester
00:33but Gillian Keegan, the Education Secretary and Conservative MP for Chichester lost out
00:40to Jess Brownfulla, Lib Dem and Horsham also went to Lib Dems with John Milne winning that seat.
00:49But all the other seats seemed to go with how the exit poll predicted.
00:56Bognor, Regis and Littlehampton, that was a Conservative hold. Arundel and South Downs,
01:00Andrew Griffith the MP there, he was also a Conservative hold. Peter Lamb, he won in Crawley
01:07so that was a Labour gain from the Conservatives. In West Worthing, Labour gain from Conservatives.
01:15In East Worthing and Shoreham, again another Labour gain from Conservatives.
01:20In the Mid Sussex and Eastbourne, Lib Dems gained from the Conservatives as did in Lewis as well.
01:28East Grinstead and Upfield was a Conservative hold. Hastings and Rye, Labour gain from Conservatives.
01:34Bexhill and Bassall, Conservative hold. Sussex Weald, a Conservative hold. Hovenport Slade was
01:41a Labour hold. Brighton Pavilion, that was a Green hold. And Brighton Kemptown, that was a
01:47Labour hold. So there was lots of gains there and Tories losing a lot of seats in Sussex.
01:55Some of them predicted, some of them were not. As we said on our story on Sussexweald.co.uk,
02:03a political earthquake hit Sussex and it has hit the UK today as well as Labour won
02:10the general election with a landslide. Reform, they gained four seats nationally and they gained
02:17a lot of votes as well so that was one of the main reasons why the Tories lost a lot of seats.
02:23So a really interesting general election, especially the effect it's had on Sussex.
02:31You can read all the latest on the general election. We had a live blog running for all
02:35the night so you can see all the results, who got in where, how many votes they got
02:39on that live blog and we've also done some analysis as well as why Chichester residents
02:46said yes to Jess. We have Jess Brownfeller beating Gillian Keegan and also more analysis
02:57just on what the exit poll meant and where the changes were and where it was right and where
03:03it was wrong. So you can catch up with all of that on Sussexweald.co.uk and there'll be
03:09more reaction throughout the day from each of the constituencies.
