On the opening night of the Malaysia-Taiwan Crosstalk show at Wisma MCA in Kuala Lumpur on July 2, waves of laughters and cheers erupted across a packed hall as several comedians took turns performing on stage.

Similar to Western stand-up comedy, crosstalk also known as xiangsheng or comic dialogue is a traditional Chinese comedic performance art, where performers partake in comedic banter rich in puns and allusions.
