Chichester host Bike Project open day 'aimed at everyone' and looking for volunteers
Transcript
00:00Hi, I'm Elizabeth Stoughton. I'm working here with Chichester Community Development Trust
00:04and we're here for our bike project. It's the Chichester Bike Project and it's a new
00:09set up here. It's on CrowdFunder. We're doing a charity share offer which is really amazing. So
00:15it's going to be a truly community-owned asset. So from £100 you can get some shares, you get
00:21access to this space and we're really, really passionate about the fact that it's for the
00:25community that earn-a-bike schemes, buy-a-bike schemes, bikes will be for sale at really
00:31reasonable prices, making it truly accessible. Plus there's a cafe and a meeting room and it's
00:36going to be a real hub for anyone with a passing interest or more in bikes. It's aimed at absolutely
00:42everyone. On Wednesdays we've got the earn-a-bike schemes, people are coming in on them, that's
00:47adults. We do have a youth programme that's been part of the pilot scheme where children have been
00:51coming in on a Friday evening and they've been able to either bring a broken bike from home that
00:58they've not been able to use and learn how to repair it and this little 11-year-old came in
01:03and left proud as punch on her bicycle that was now working and then she came back the next week
01:08with her little sister's bicycle to do the same and we've got other people who are kind of not
01:13able to afford bikes, pestering their parents for lifts and for bus money and they're coming in and
01:19over four or five weeks doing up one of the donated bikes and then just having the freedom
01:23for this year to cycle off. So yeah, there is a strong youth option in the part of it but it is
01:31very much for all. We'll be doing women's workshops which I'm looking forward to,
01:35having not yet fixed a puncture myself. So yeah, it's really aimed at everybody.
