00:00Mixing alcohol and energy drinks has long been controversial.
00:03Now, there's scientific evidence of its risks.
00:05A study published in the August issue of Neuropharmacology
00:08describes the results of administering alcohol and Red Bull to adolescent rats.
00:12The authors found that, quote,
00:14"...binge-like drinking alcohol mixed with energy drinks adolescent exposure
00:18represents a habit that may affect permanently hippocampal plasticity."
00:22According to ScienceAlert, this means the brain could become less adaptive
00:25to new conditions and stimuli.
00:27And the study says that these effects go beyond a combination of effects
00:30caused by alcohol and energy drinks separately.
00:32This is in line with the results of a similar 2016 study on mice published in PLoS One.
00:37So there's one more reason to put down the Red Bull and vodka,
00:40especially if you're underage.
