Harris attacks Trump on abortion rights: "Our daughters will have fewer rights than their grandmothers"
US Vice President Kamala Harris, the top choice to replace US President Joe Biden if he were to step aside as the Democratic Party's standard-bearer, spoke in New Orleans on July 6 at the Essence Festival of Culture, an annual culture and music festival sponsored by Essence magazine, whose target audience is Black women.
Harris attacked former President Donald Trump and the US Supreme Court for taking away abortion rights. The appearance was part of an effort by the Biden campaign to shore up support among Black voters.

00:00The first black female vice president of the United States,
00:04Vice President Kamala Harris!
00:09Freedom, freedom, I can't move.
00:11Freedom caught me losing.
00:14Freedom, freedom, where are you?
00:17Cause I need freedom too.
00:19I'll break chains all by myself.
00:22Won't let my freedom rot in hell.
00:27This is probably the most significant election of our lifetime.
00:30You know, we have said it every four years,
00:33but this here one is it.
00:36We are looking at an election that will take place in 122 days.
00:42122.
00:44Where on one side, you have the former president,
00:49who is running to become president again,
00:52who has openly talked about his admiration of dictators
00:55and his intention to be a dictator on day one.
00:58Who has openly talked about his intention to weaponize
01:02the Department of Justice against his political enemies.
01:06Who has talked about being proud of taking from the women of America
01:11a most fundamental right to make decisions about your own body.
01:16And then last week, understand,
01:19sadly the press has not been covering it as much as they should
01:22in proportion to the seriousness of what just happened,
01:25when the United States Supreme Court
01:28essentially told this individual who has been convicted of 34 felonies
01:36that he will be immune from essentially the activity he has told us
01:42he is prepared to engage in if he gets back into the White House.
01:48Understand what we all know.
01:52In 122 days, we each have the power to decide
01:57what kind of country we want to live in.
02:01Understand what we know.
02:05When there has been a full-on intentional attack
02:09against hard-fought, hard-won freedoms and rights,
02:13I think we all believe and know
02:15one does not have to abandon their faith
02:18and deeply held beliefs to agree
02:21the government should not be telling her what to do with her body.
02:27Understand that the former president, who is up for re-election,
02:31has said he is proud of what has happened.
02:34Proud of the fact that our daughters will have fewer rights than their grandmothers.
