00:00Duncan and the Hot Air Balloon. It was a beautiful day in the hills of Sodor. It was also the Thin Controller's twin's birthday.
00:13Every year, Duncan gave the twins a special birthday ride. Duncan was excited.
00:21At the depot, Duncan was getting ready. He had to look his best. His special birthday flag had been fixed to his cab.
00:31Duncan was very proud of his flag. Mr. Percival came to see Duncan.
00:37Shall I pick up the twins now?
00:40No, Duncan. This year, I'm giving them a ride in a hot air balloon for their birthday.
00:46Duncan was disappointed. He wanted to give the twins their birthday treat.
00:51Duncan, you must collect the hot air balloon from the transfer yards.
00:57Yes, sir.
01:00And he chuffed sadly away.
01:04Duncan pulled into the transfer yards. Thomas had brought the balloon from the docks. The balloon man was filling it with hot air.
01:17Hello, Duncan.
01:19Hello, Thomas.
01:21That's a wonderful balloon.
01:24You be sure to puff slowly and carefully.
01:28So Duncan huffed slowly away to Mr. Percival's house.
01:38On his way, Duncan rolled over a bumpy track. His flatbed clank rattled and jiggled.
01:48One of the ropes holding down the balloon came undone.
01:54Oh dear, thought Duncan. The bumpy track has jiggled the balloon loose. What shall I do?
02:01Then an idea flew into Duncan's funnel.
02:05If I jiggled the balloon more, it might float away.
02:09Then I could give the twins a ride today and they could have a balloon ride tomorrow.
02:14So Duncan began to jiggle backwards and forwards over the bumpy track.
02:22The ropes loosened and the balloon floated away.
02:29Hooray!
02:31And Duncan chuffed cheerily to the thin controller's house.
02:36Duncan puffed round a bend. Then he stopped.
02:42The hot air balloon had floated down.
02:45It was right in front of him.
02:49It was right in front of him on the track.
02:52Duncan bumped into the balloon.
02:55Flatten my funnel. Now what should I do?
03:00The basket wobbled and one of the sandbags fell off.
03:05It made the balloon rise up a little.
03:08Duncan was puzzled. He biffed the balloon again.
03:13More sandbags fell off.
03:17The balloon rose higher and higher and floated away.
03:24Duncan was delighted.
03:31Duncan chuffed round another bend.
03:36Bust my buffers!
03:38There on the bridge above him was the balloon.
03:42I thought the balloon had floated away.
03:45What shall I do now? he thought.
03:47Duncan chuffed his biggest puff.
03:51The hot smoke from his funnel flew into the balloon.
03:54It made the balloon get bigger.
03:57This gave Duncan an idea.
04:00He huffed and puffed and puffed and huffed.
04:04The balloon got bigger and bigger and floated away.
04:10Duncan was delighted.
04:12He raced to the thin controller's house.
04:18The thin controller was waiting for him.
04:21Where's the hot air balloon, Duncan?
04:24It came loose, sir, and floated away.
04:27The thin controller was upset.
04:30Then there was trouble.
04:32The balloon floated down from the sky once again.
04:37Straight towards the weathervane on the thin controller's roof.
04:42It burst on the sharp point.
04:45The balloon tumbled down.
04:50Fizzling fireboxes!
04:52Duncan was upset.
04:54Now the twins wouldn't have their balloon ride at all.
04:57It's all my fault, sir.
04:59I just wanted to give the twins their birthday treat,
05:03just as I always have.
05:05The thin controller was cross.
05:08Duncan, you were going to give the twins their birthday ride.
05:12You were going to pick them up and bring them here.
05:16Duncan felt even more upset.
05:19He wanted the twins to have a happy day.
05:22Sir, Peter Sam could pick up the twins.
05:25Then I will go and collect the balloon repairman.
05:28I'm sure he could fix the balloon.
05:30The thin controller thought this was a very good idea.
05:34So Duncan puffed quickly away.
05:37Duncan raced into Mountain Village Station.
05:40The balloon repairman was waiting.
05:43We must be quick, sir.
05:45The balloon has to be fixed before the twins get home.
05:54Duncan chuffed quickly back to the thin controller's house.
05:58The thin controller was very pleased to see them.
06:02The balloon repairman looked at the hole in the balloon.
06:06Oh dear, it's a very big hole.
06:09I don't have enough material to fix it.
06:12I know, sir.
06:14My birthday flag, it might just be big enough.
06:17The balloon repairman looked at Duncan's flag.
06:21Well, yes, Duncan.
06:23That would be perfect.
06:26The balloon repairman fixed the balloon just in time.
06:31Peter Sam arrived with the twins.
06:34They were delighted.
06:37Soon, Mr. Percival and the twins were floating high above the island of Sodor.
06:48And Duncan felt so happy, he thought his boiler would burst.
